Stereo head unit mounted in cubby lid or top vents?

Has anybody ever tried a custom installation of a single or double din head unit either in the top vents or the cubby in the middle of the dashboard?

I feel the original head unit position is way too low. To dump the vents  and put in a single din would be cool, but does offcourse involve a lot of work.   s:crazyeyes: :crazyeyes: s:crazyeyes:  

Just wondering if anyone has done something like that.
