Placement is back to his work ex today (after some attempt at blagging me, saying it was tomorrow!) so having a couple of hours drive about...

In the fog and the sun, as it turned out!

Took some CDs instead of the MP3 USB stick, sounds a lot smoother. Took away the little bit of harshness I have been chasing with the EQ.

def thinking of using rear storage doors for speakers. may build a sub box for passenger foot well. then need decent sport  exhaust, wheels dipping, fly-eyes all round. the list goes on.

PS... The bracket behind the buttons on the right of the steering wheel is NOT suitable to hang a subwoofer off  s:( :( s:(  Snapped clean off

Now need to fashion a new bracket.

Not sure if I used this one!

I blame those work boots of yours!

Will check it out when it dries outside...

Didn't end up being a problem.
The bolt that bracket is attached to lined up perfectly with the hole for the bracket on the woofer  s:) :) s:)   Success. The bracket is for the obd2 wire harness, but it's not going anywhere without the bracket so no harm done

Epic thread revival.

I'm attempting to mount the USW10 under my steering wheel. I can see the mount that Shnazzle has used on one side - The side mounted where the sponge is, has that been custom made?

In the pic above, the metal square bracket you see is on the car and you can see where it sheered off.
The black thick mount of the usw10 slides over the bolt that that swuare bracket fits to.

Thanks. I worked that bit out. It's how the other thick mount on the USW is attached - near the sponge in this post below -

Ah yes that part is custom. It's a very simple combination of a 90deg bracket at the top, bolted to a flat bracket with 3 holes, an then another 90deg bracket at the bottom that the speaker is bolted onto.
Since this suspends the speaker in mid air, supported on two sides, it can swing. Hence the sponge stuffed behind it to hold it in place. Hasn't moved in almost 3 years haha so it must work.

Fabulous. That's (almost) exactly what I needed.

Just one more thing (I feel like Columbo saying that - this will be lost on many younger readers). Where have you attached this strangely complicated but ultimately satisfying bracket on the car?

I'd have to look but I'm pretty sure it's attached to the brake pedal carrier.

I'm not saying it's the best solution BTW  s:) :) s:)  It works.

Great. I've given up for the day now, but I'll have another look when I get time. Brackets are cheap enough in screwfix. I might even bypass the plastic bracket supplied with the sub and just attach the custom bracket direct (little foam in between for protection)

I took a few more pics earlier this week because as luck had it.... one of the nuts came loose so I had to do a handstand to tighten it.

I'm gunna be "that guy" and bring an old thread back to life again, but I actually had a quick question :)

I too just ordered the USW10 tonight, and was just curious if any of you have tried aiming the woofer facing upwards in the dash instead of down?

Why would you do that?

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

It would be harder to mount I think. You'd have to fashion a cradle of some sort

Im just working on the install of the usw10 as we speak. I noticed in your photos you used the existing plastic mounts included with it.

Have you had no concerns about the plastic snapping over time, or perhaps in colder weather?

Using them would make my install more simple, but I'm wondering if I should just make a solid brace across the top and avoid the plastic altogether?

Boy I will be glad when this job is over! Haha :)

I definitely see your concern.

But,
A) They're actually a bit flexible. Give it a try
B) My sub has been in for... Err...5 years or so? And  over 40k miles. A hell of a lot of bumpy Northumberland and Yorkshire roads. Hasn't moved yet.

C) it is what it came with so while it isn't intended to hang upside down,  I guess it is meant to withstand some general beating from being bumped around

My solution is definitely pikey but... Is it still pikey if it has lasted 5 years? :)

A big thankyou to @shnazzle @Topdownman @Justin.D @Call the midlife! @stokedcrf  and anyone I missed out who have been on this thread and other similar ones.

I just spent a couple of days upside down fitting a USW10, first day wrestling it physically to attach to the car in the footwell, than a few hours next day doing the wiring.

They are available for £80 at the moment if you don't mind a 'refurb' https://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/category_m-underseat-subwoofers_c-2741.htm
For what it's worth mine was perfect in sealed packaging, didn't look perfect after 2 days banging it around in the footwell mind.

I used some steel brackets from a set of bike mudguards, hopefully strong enough and resistant to the flex as it's not completely rigid - three fixings might have been better than they two they provide on the unit. The brackets are part of set 11333 from SKS which are used to fit "raceblade long". I have seen Justin.D's thread where his came loose.

Sorry no pics - once I'd worked out where it was going and made it work, I couldn't face taking it down again - just came to say thanks really.

I thought I'd just bump this topic rather than starting another. I ended up with the larger In Phase USW300 active sub, which I certainly had my doubts about when offering it up. However it seems to fit pretty well with a couple of brackets, I'll only know for sure when I secure everything 100%! Picture of my mounting points for reference (black bolts hanging down), the one on the left is a bracket for securing furniture to the wall attached to a standard 90 degree bracket - not square but the ended up the perfect width apart. I'm tempted to drill out the mounts on the sub and use larger nuts and bolts, otherwise fingers crossed I've got it!

No,  I don't think any of them fit under the seats. There is space under the dash or in the bins. You might get one upright under the bin but you would have to be careful to not hit it with the seat.

I had a go but no luck. The space looks ok at the front but there's bits in the way (cables, mechanisms), then gets very shallow at the back.

I don't need my seat all the way back so thought about behind the seats, and in the bins was an option but there have been various comments on the forum about what sounds best and under dash seems to win. Perhaps in the bin with no door would be good but it's nice to have some storage...
