Hi all,

I want to put an android double din my 2, but there is so many options it is mental, it's a minefield.

So what are people running? What are the pros and cons of your system?
I would ideally like nav of some sort, bluetooth (so I can run my spotify offline over it) and maybe even DAB.

Thanks in advance.

I am looking for a double din car stereo too. Like the OP its hard to work out which will be the best one to buy.

Assuming that all units will have 4x50+, play discs, and have FM radio, I want ipod control BT and Dab.

I am interested to know what others have found when using these as a sat nav given that the screen is not going to be in an ideal location - any comments gratefully received....

I am hoping to see some in action at Ding Day / birthday bash as the quality of the screen when the roof is down is critical.

The Kenwood 4015/ Apple &  4016 /Android doesn't look too bad and the Pioneer 3600 is a similar price, at around £250

I will be watching this thread closely and will report back after the weekends research!

I have a Pioneer Double DIN Sat nav in mine. It does ipod, SD Card, Sat Nav, DVD playback plus a bunch of other stuff I haven't bothered to figure out. No Bluetooth or DAB without an additional module.

Some reflections:
  • Screen position is fine provided you're not literally driving by it. Audio cues and a glance are fine.
  • The Pioneer software SUCKS compared to my android phone. In fact I often use my phone clamped in the dash top storage bin in preference.
  • Touch screens overall in cars are a bit of PITA in my opinion. I hate multiple presses to do stuff and taking my eyes off the road, plus the fact it's resistive not capacitative and has slight lag serve to further frustrate.
  • GPS receivers can be mounted under the dash, up behind the glovebox (mine is on top of the heater fan box) and still receive GPS Signal absolutely fine, so no need for a box/cable routing in the windscreen.
Overall, I'm using the Pioneer because it was free (it came in my donor corolla) and works for music and very occasional navigation work. It is absolutely NOT worth the £600+ RRP it has! (I can't remember model number, sorry) If I had my choice, I'd probably fit a flip down 7" Android tablet into the dash top storage bin as that's a better location, could still do music and would also be a cool Torque/OBDII Diagnostics/gauge pod.

The DDX4016DAB (which is the new version of the mentioned Kenwood) is fully compatible with Android. The 4015 appears not so.

Which is fine if you have an iPhone, but if you decide to go down the Android route, you're snookered. Appears to only be a few pounds more.

Thanks everyone for the replies, it is appreciated.

Yeah so many about that are so similar, and my knowledge of electronics / stereos is crap haha.

Other Stu, that Kenwood looks really good actually, now to check if people get nav working on it etc.

Keep the options / recommendations coming please  s:) :) s:)

Yeah, neither appear to have Nav. The Pioneer has it as a very expensive option and a separate box.

FWIW, I'm waiting for a replacement android-based double-din one (the first one just bricked on the second time I started it).
If this one fails, I'll probably get the Kenwood and continue to rely on my phone for Sat Nav (tbf, Google Maps is excellent - particularly with traffic because it's real-time as opposed to camera and report based).

Great review!  Seems that the screen brightness is fine with the roof down which was a concern for me. I will check into which of the Eonon units have Dab+!
