Battery relocation options

Hi all,

I need a bit more space in my engine bay for the various pipes to be routed around when I do go for a turbo, and even now in NA space is still fairly tight on the intake side, I am therefore looking to move the stock battery, I am thinking its best to simply run it to the front of the car. This will help with overall weight distribution and I might also look at running a smaller battery as well as the battery is only really used to start the car as there is no audio at all - might even look into those supercapacitor setups and have a very small 12v battery if that charge runs down.

Has anyone tried running a bike battery at all? Some of those can turn over high compression 4 cylinder bike engines or large V twin etc.

Am I correct to say I just need a bracket, some thick cable to run under the car and terminals to connect? I guess I would just mount some battery posts in the engine bay where the OEM battery was and connect up the loom as if there was a battery there? I am aware that the heavier gauge wire might make it heavier but I am mainly looking for space, weight saving would also be good, I am tempted to run the battery in one of the bins but not ideal due to it being deadly if it comes unstrapped.

Thanks in advance!

Mount it on the rear cross member.
Plenty of us have run turbo kits without moving the battery.
I will be moving mine for the supercharger however it will make the fitting of a decent size chargecooler possible.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Many thanks, will look into this, currently have the intake pipework and air box off so I have access and just thought - wish there was more space!

Might look to fit a lightweight battery as well, guessing a bike battery wouldn't have enough power? What is the suggested amp hours?

Not sure about the battery.
Some of the guys went for Li Motorsport type things.

Pat said he was keen to give that a try.

Cool, I will check out that relocation, perhaps not ideal sitting next to a heat source and further away from the centre of the car - will see if mine will fit there, have actually just removed that heat shield lol there is a lot of space back there.

Mine is in the front, there is a hole cut in the bottom of the frunk which just goes over the top of the battery. I liked the idea of moving weight from the rear to the front as it doubles the effect (at least in my mind!).

I will look at both options, I think putting it in the frunk would be best as it moves the weight forward and means there is lots more space in the engine bay, would only need to run a single heavy duty cable from the front to the rear for the positive terminal so shouldn't add much weight in and no propshaft to get in the way!
