Hey everyone! Back again with another question :)

I'm the 2nd owner of an Mr-s and while I had the storage buckets out to run some speaker wiring, I noticed that behind the passenger seat (lhd), there was some wiring that looks like it has been spliced previously!

I don't think it's doing any hard, but does anyone know what this wiring harness is for at that location and what the previous owner maybe have been using the wide taps for?

Thanks!

The purple/violet one's the MAF sensor wire.
Either someone had a device plugged in to alter the maf signal, or they were measuring thr maf signal

The red wires are just power taps from the looks of it. Probably the last place I'd get an unprotected/unfused power tap but hey ho
...neutiquam erro.

Is that the ECU we are looking at I assume?

I really wish there was a way to know what these previous owners did before selling stuff! Whatever was there, they removed though!

That is indeed the ecu. And don't get me started on wishing one knew what happened to a car before you got it.

So piggyback ecu was likely added at some stage?
Wonder if it was turbocharged once upon a time.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Can't see any other taps into crank or injectors so don't think piggyback actually

What would be the point then?
Can't you monitor MAF via odb2?
Unless it was one of those silly fake tunning boxes?

Obd2 polling rate is abysmal at 1sec. So maybe they wanted more real-time measurement. I know I do...

But yeah it could be a case of a MAF conditioner. Not the worst idea if you're running an aftermarket intake.
There are some good ones.
With the correct setup you can definitely use a MAF signal conditioner to correct fueling issues with an aftermarket MAF pipe or as a replacement for the "MAF mod" (still need injectors)

AHh! Interesting...

I'll get some pictures of the intake on the car...the airbox is stock, but I have some other questions with the intake tubes, because there's an awful lot of ductape going on.

Being as I'm the only person around my neighborhood with an MR-S, I've never actually seen one so I don't know what everything "should" look like.

Glad I have you guys!

Stay tuned for the intake photos!
