Im especially interested in the costs vs my boosted 2zz.

Managed to find a few hours to tackle the studs today. It was suspiciously easy...

I started with the fronts as that's where I'm having the clearance issues and need to run a small spacer, due to the larger Prius calipers.

1. Jack car (I drive on to blocks and jack under the subframe to lift both fronts).
2. Remove wheels (impact gun ftw).
3. Remove 2x 17mm bolts holding brake carrier (have Weetabix for breakfast).
4. Ziptie caliper out the way and place disc to one side.
5. Rotate hub to line up the stud with the space behind.
6. Whack it with a big hammer until it pops out.
7. Slide in the new stud.
8. To pull the stud in, I used an upside down 21mm socket and an OE wheel nut, and hit it with the impact gun.
9. Repeat for the other 3 studs.
10. Replace disc, caliper, and wheel.

I used ARP studs, and they are LONG. So spacer or no spacer you'll need open wheel nuts. I went for 'tuner' nuts, and have used some 13mm spacers I had lying around. And now my front track wheels clear! Whoop.

Fitment on point 🤣

I also fitted my tow straps, took longer to find a 10mm allen key than to wind them in. Unfortunately the rear one has to sit sideways to be useful and not break the bumper. Is what it is!

I also started removing the stickers as the car needs a really good clean. I'm going for a slightly different look for this year, so it has to go! Sunstrip came off nice and easily, the side stickers less so...

Quote from: Nomad on Yesterday at 18:46Yep, definetely the cable. I've managed to adjust the handbrake to it best balance between blocking the wheel and binding after releasing the parking break. Hopefully I can get away with it with an advisory. Going forward I will replace both cables.

Well done.  It's lovely to see such perseverance!
Make sure you use OEM cables.

It sounds like you found the problem.  If the cable is moving smoothly, it should do the job.

This is how I've cleaned the handbrake btw

Thanks Carolyn.

Yep followed the procedure: started up the engine, pumped the brakes 10 time, adjusted the handbrake.
When the handbrake cable is disconnected from the RHR calliper and I move the handbrake mechanism by hand, it fully blocks the wheel. That means the handbrake mechanism works how it should, right?

The problem I am getting now is that the LHS handbrake cable pulls nicely, blocks the wheel and also returns back nicely, the lever on the brake calliper returns to the stop pin.

On the RHS I can't block the wheel with the handbrake at all and also the cable doesn't want to return back after releasing the handbrake. So the lever sits about 5mm from touching the stop pin on the calliper.

I thought the RHS handbrake cable is bad but I've pumped some penetrating oil using a tube and a bicycle pump and and it cleared a lot of dirt and it moved nice and easy when operating by hand now.

Is this an adjustment thing or do I need another handbrake cable?

MOT is next week.... oops
