Title: Roof options
Post by: Mr2highpeak on April 11, 2022, 11:43
Hi guys I'm looking to replace my vinyl roof as its past it's best, I've seen a couple of posts about a company in Swansea doing them for sensible money however that is quite a trek for me being based in the stockport area. Do you guys know where I can get it replaced Manchester area or know where I can get a decent used one?

Anywhere other than Swansea will be at least £600 for the canvas only and a DIY fitting or around a grand for delivery and fit or a drive in fit. Not many second hand ones around at the minute but try J Spec or Dick Sloan but they're both at least as far away from you as Dick is up Carlisle way and J spec are in Scotland.

As a lot of people on here do - make a day of it, get booked in at Swansea - (a long waiting list though).  Job probably takes only 4 hours, if that and away you go again.

Choose a right day and you will enjoy the drive with the roof down....and Swansea isn't too bad for a day trip.

What colour are you going for? (On what colour car).

He will advise not to put the roof down for a few days to let it stretch so get the top down on the way there!

The waiting list is getting longer, was only 3 months a month ago!

Gone for black as the car is silver so couldn't think of a colour which would suit it.

Red looks excellent on a silver!

I will have a look see if I like it, I've got plenty of time to change the colour

Remember that you get what you pay for.
I would have had one of his roofs no worries but they're not the same quality mohair as those at 3 times the price.

I'm thinking of trying these guys out:
South West Roadsters (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/185316862598)

It's better for me on the south coast to get to, not to mention a great drive through Dorset & Devon.

yes its the place were i had my roof done .
yes very happy with so far.
its a 1 man band working from home like Raymond(Swansea)
at the time he was 2nd cheapest and only does 1 roof a day unlike Swansea.
the roof is darker and heavy compared to Ray  as twillfast not stayfast,
i spent a lot time going over what was defences and what other companies use as well,

Nathan was very helpful to me for other reasons and i would use again. :)  :)

my roof is shot and it's a 17 year old car so if the Swansea roof holds up for 5 years which I expect it should it's a good price compared to the other prices. Plus I'm looking forward to driving through mid Wales making it a road trip.

:) i can say for the cost of the roof for all but a few its the most cost active way to get a new roof is Swansea.
i think some people have had there's  done years ago and still going strong :)

he is a chatty man and helpfully a bit of a (character in a nice way)  just keeping talking about cars :)

not that hard to find down the lane( which is tight with lots of other little places of work)

any one come to Wales and looking to go  Swansea iam happy to meet up if i can :)

so please ask if you are, iam gutted as i did miss one member as i was having some work done at the time on my 2 :)

i have spoken to Raymond a few times face to face and he does most soft tops for various cars he is well known on lots of forums on personal recommendation :) hence why so booked up plus his price  :)

he does 2/3 cars a day 8)

In that case stick with the black option, Red if not kept in a garage doesn't weather well

The Swansea black roof material is certainly better quality than the red they use, but red just looks so good!

You need red in the interior to make a red roof work surely? Other wise it looks incongruous  :-\

A bit of red inside would no doubt help the look.

I have a red edition wheel for sale when I get round to it if that helps anyone!

What's the asking price as I have been looking for one to match my seats and door cards.

Cheers.

well I do have a black and red leather seats door cards, and a gt86 black and red steering wheel. So I reckon I could pull off a red roof but I need to see one in the flesh to make my mind up.

Are you coming to the National Meet in July?

You should be able to see one there.
