Probably my first post.
Purchased in 2017 and has spent all of that time dry stored in France. Never off road though, my father in law only covered about 450 miles in all of that time and serviced it annually
Took the opportunity and rescued it this summer. Great driving around France, me and the Doris love it.
In my workshop now. Manifold off. Another service and a bit of tlc all round.
It's no minter and I don't care because its fun.
Scuse my ugly mug and stickman legs.

They are aftermarket Depo headlights, fitted for the French mot type test.
Still have the original ones which will be fitted for the uk MoT.
Trying to sort out a manifold solution right now🤔 ....weather to bolt the old stuff back on after taking out the precats, or go for an aftermarket.
It's all badly rusted with siezed and broken bolts. The 3 studs on the precat end are now 1. Does anyone know the sizes/thread that I  will need to order?

Carolyn

See of you can get a Toyosports one.

It looks like they have them in stock (which isn't always the case)

https://www.toyosports.co.uk/toyota-193-c.asp

I'm a fan of wrapping it before you put it in, which is much easier and it keeps the heat down in the engine compartment.

It comes with nuts and bolts and a pair of useless gaskets.  OEM head to manifold and OEM crush rings for manifold to cat, are the only way to go.

Thanks.
I had a look and the price seems fair.
Noticed though,  that there don't seem to be any recesses for the crush washers instead of using the flat gasket that comes with the kit..
Is it still possible to use the crush washers instead?

Well..most of the rear end is off, due to the manifold job.
It needs some tlc at the very least in terms of ugly rusty bits and a well oxidised engine. I don't want to reassemble it before a good clean up.
Any tricks for cleaning the engine block and head?

Carolyn

The crush rings will still work.

WD or equivalent will deal with the oxidation. Is the engine oily at all?

I believe M10 nuts n bolts are the most suitable for replacing the "3 amigos" as they are known. Or full fat oem.

No the engine isn't oily.
Around the gearbox is though and it's a bit splattered around the driveshaft.
I  was thinking to change the oil there, now its up in the air, clean it and replace the drain plug washer...see how that goes.

Is the spatter around the drive shaft oil or grease?
I noticed such and it was emulsified grease ( a creamy colour)  that had escaped between the joint sleeve and the shaft.
The sleeve was intact. I removed the metal ties, cleaned out all joints, repacked with moly grease and secured with new ties.
At the time of doing it I remarked that I'd not read of other similar leakages, that I thought was strange!

What does it smell like? Could be gear oil, I had to get the driveshaft seals done on mine a few years ago. It wasn't a massive leak but enough that the nappy underneath was soaked in the stuff.
2004 Silver. Stock(ish).

There is both oil and spatters of grease. Not the best pic

Yes, I think the shaft seal is poorly.Probably did it no good being sat unused for many months over 7 years I think..

In the end I got a used and well wrapped one from a very helpful ROC member. Glad I have joined...

No evidence of grease as it appeared on my car.

Will try and keep you posted.
So far, I'm into a decat manifold, replacement exhaust etc, and in doing so, discovering a rotten sub frame, oil leak and lots of previous back street maintenance.
At least the ariel works though..feeding a Binatone quality radio that's probably a fire risk.
Who needs a Lancia??
