VED rates 2025

Might as well start this thread now for us in the UK.

What will the VED rate be for our MR2's? Does anyone have any idea yet?

There are lots of changes for EV and Hybrid drivers but I think ours raise by RPI this year.

For cars that are so light, quite efficient, taking up less space and inflicting so much less damage to the roads than the tanks everyone is buying these days (and which are far cheaper to tax), it makes absolutley no sense to me.

VED doesn't make any sense in any of its existing iterations. The only system which actually makes sense is one related to road miles but that's tricky to manage.

That said, much like the diesel "bullhooks" roll up roll up, this is this best thing since sliced bread. Hook 'em in, then retreat. ev no tax cause its green (no zorst but ignoring production).

Might as well go for God's own choice of SUV, the Lexus RX450H, 3.5 litres of GR derived V6 goodness and comparatively low tax by comparison to a non ICE, Hybrid vehicle.

It can be done, and as you say is the only fair way.

Unfortunately, "fair" went out the widows many years ago, as soon as the word  "emission's" entered the governments and tax mans vocabulary.

The way to do it is to put an extra tax on fuel and that covers road tax, the more you buy the more you use the road and that would also be fair for the emissions as the faster you burn the more you need to buy and have a set amount for EV's
