QuoteI do tend to pull it up whilst sat in the drivers seat, but only using the central handle. That wouldn't throw it out of alignment, surely?
Remember that 2 to 2.5 years ago that the hood was closing. During that time you have using the central handle but the direction you are pulling it is certainly not straight ahead, perhaps somewhere around 45deg. off Centre.
If you were to do the same from the passenger seat you would be pulling the frame at an opposing angle and may start to rectify the situation. Maybe worth  be worth a try!

Quote from: Joesson on April 10, 2026, 07:42I did not have nor have I read about inherent problems with the roof frame. But what I have read about is drivers pulling the roof up with one hand from the seat.
Doing so must pull the frame off centre I believe. Typically I raised and lowered the roof from outside the car and helped the rear screen on its way when lowering.
If that sounds familiar perhaps raising your roof from the passenger seat a few times might help the frame realign.

Off the back of this thread, are there any common faults which can occur with the roof frame?
I've had my 2 for 2.5yrs now, but just lately it's getting really difficult to get the roof closed. It'll go up and down fine, but when I try to latch it closed it's not sitting square to the header rail - on the offside, it sits maybe an inch away. I'm thinking I might have bent something in the frame somewhere? Anything common or obvious I can check or do I need to take it someone who knows? There's a specialist soft-top place in Bradford - AS Pickering.

To understand what bytes do what I thought documenting them out was a good move.

I have a whole stack of clusters here of all different types, I have put quite a few hours into this!

I still do not understand the bytes that control the tacho. It seems "77" make it run 8k, and pretty much any other value switches it to 9k. Part of me wonders if we are just breaking it somehow with that byte, and the FBFBFB AFAFAF bytes are related.

AFAFAF is the Tacho needle scaling, if you change that to AAAAAA it sweeps to about 9500rpm and 9C points to about 11000rpm, but with the 9000rpm signal. It does not effect the 9000rpm maximum rev pulse input limit.

I think dumping some Celica clusters would be smart, 1zz v's 2zz clusters.

Well, what a chore that was!!
New, genuine, handbrake cables fitted, BC Racing coilovers swapped out for new standard suspension and new calipers fitted, all just at the rear!
If the handbrake cables ever need replacing I will either remove the fuel tank completely or just sell the car! 🤣🤣

This is late but may be useful to others .i have used these stick on tape parking sensors on two roadsters. I fitted them to the inside of my rear bumpers .nothing to see from the outside

OK. Thanks for the advice. I will wait for a nice warm day, get out there nice and early and just take my time. I was actually toying with the idea of removing the tank completely as I do like to have space to do a job properly and have a good clean up of anything else under there while I'm at it. The second fuel connector REALLY didn't want to come off though, and I was going to damage it if I tried much more so maybe not this time.
Oh, and I did get the electrical connector off. I was squeezing the right bit but the clip was really stuck tight. A pair of pump pliers across the plug did it!
Thanks again.

Further to my post #1907 concerning qualified/ unqualified teachers.
Have you considered applying for a teaching job with "only" your subject qualifications?
That benefits the teaching institute as they get the same for less and you would get experience of teaching and determine whether that was for you.
Teaching qualifications could then be tried for in parallel with your better paying job.

As far as I know I'd if I did do that, it would not really pay very well.. I'm currently considering doing the PGCE bursary route which will pay me to train and I come out with something that should get me in most places.

Quote from: Chilli Girl on April  1, 2026, 15:54That job sounds right up my street - I'd love that role as I'm car mad. So much better than my desk job and managing 20 staff with all their moans for the last 30 years! :'(   Time to retire?  10 more years to go.

Well -it is nice being round the cars, and the other guys there are all decent.
Things like C-types and Monanco's and lots of things I've never heard of. Yesterday I drove 355 miles doing deliveries and pickups, today was just cleaning..LOTS of cleaning. But I do actually like maintaining things like the Lathe and mill etc.

It might become something. It's only 2 days a week at the moment, and it's a 30 second commute. I'm currently dealing with my mom having been recently hospitalized and now discharged and I've managed to get her into a care home in the village. So having 2 days of work and the rest to deal with that stuff has actually been quite a blessing. I will try and get some photos of the cars at some point.

I do have AC and it wasn't an issue.  At the worst you undo a couple of mounting brackets without disconnecting anything.

I've had the tank all the way out on another occasion, in order to replace gearshift cables.  I did not disconnect any cooling or AC hoses.  I did undo a few mounting brackets.
