Title: coolant question
Post by: Anonymous on September 23, 2003, 08:35
hi guys/girls

hopefully just a quick question. i had a look at my coolant level yesterday and it was on the low mark.

am i ok just to top it up or do i need to drain it all out and re fill??

i was going to top it up but i went to buy some coolant and noticed that on the bottle they recommend not to mix 2 different types of coolant. is this true?? if so any idea what coolant toyota use??

hope you can help

cheers

alan

If it's *on* the low mark that's fine - it'll fluctuate quite a lot anyway.

In any case, just pop down to your local Mr T and pick up a bottle of Red Forlife - something like £2.50. Do not dilute! No need to flush and refill either - leave that for the standard service periods.

The level of the coolant seems to vary from '2 to '2 - My first roadster always sat at the low level - even if I topped it up, it would just blow it out of the overflow. The new one seems to sit at the full level, even when cold.

Basically, top the coolant up a couple of times using the Toyota stuff, but if it drops back to the low level (and stays there for at least a week without dropping further) then I would leave it alone.
