Guys just had a letter from Head Office of MR T adving me that there is a possible fault where the wiring loom may chaffe on the audio mount and that I should contact my local dealer for inspection and possible repair at Mr T's cost.
They say the problem caused is that the warning lights for the airbag and or the abs come on, I guess all registered owners will be getting this letter.

The letter is coded 7GB01 no other codes given
I hope this works, as I dont post that many pictures on the site and its a long time since I did so here goes. I am not supprised that some Mr T's have not heard of the potential problem, I was just saying to my wife that I would give it a few days before contacting the Essex dealer to give them a chance to get the update.

QuoteHi Les
I wanted to ask your help with posting some information on the various MR2 owners clubs forums. We have a letter which we wanted to post on the various websites explaining to owners about a future modification campaign affecting MR2 roadsters from 2000 to 2002. We thought it would be useful to provide background information to owners explaining about this campaign and to ensure the correct information is easily available. It is also to emphasise that if you receive a letter then your vehicle may be affected, if you do not receive this letter then it is not.
Best wishes

[MOD]Thanks Les, I've stickied this so it stays at the top of the threads, amended the title to be more specific, and deleted posts on the thread irrelevant to the main matter in hand.
Hi,
As suggested by Les this has been included in Issue 12 which has been dispatched today as a separate 'Stop Press' for any Roadster owners who may have missed it or are not on the forum.
Thanks Les for letting us know

I had this procedure done while my car was in for repair, it isn't much of a job and there is nothing to worry about, plus as part of the package I received £15 worth of petrol for the inconvenience s:wink:  s:wink:

I've got an import but I'm assuming this will effect mine too? Might have to print the letter out and take it to the local Mr T.
Hi All,
Mine is between those dates, but no letter received. Do Mr T get the registered owners list from the DVLA? s:? :? s:?
Cheers,
Stu

No idea, probably not since its NOT a recall. Why not just print it out and take it to your MrT?

As in my original letter from David Crouch I can only repeat what was stated, assuming this is for UK models only. s:wink:  s:wink:

I saw this when it started at the end of September and only got my letter this week, so it looks like they are in no rush.
I have just received a radio wiring harness recall for my 01 reg
Anyone know what the problem is ?
I have an after market radio fitted but they still want to have a look
s:?: :?: s:?:
jus read the next notice to find that Toyota issued this notice in September 2008 - only took them 2 months to tell me about it !!
I never got a letter but i rang toyota to check, they did not recognise any of the registration no's its had(private and normal)but did a check on its chassis no and i have 2 outstanding recalls. One is the wiring behind header and the other is the master cylinder for brakes.Have others have a recall on their master cylinder?
Hi,
Thread with the details is 'stickied' at the top of this forum:

I have a '51' and have never received this notice, so you're one step further on than me!

I was called by my dealer (very exciting) - when I returned the call hoping for some free wheels / free engine etc, was mega disappointed...
Seems the wire can chafe and cause fire - not that we have heard of any.....
I cant be bothered taking my car in for that
Quote from: "life of bryan".Have others have a recall on their master cylinder?
Yep, the letter is hidden under reams of paper on my desk s:oops:  s:oops:
The dealership didn't seem to be to interested when I brought it up with them.
The dealer said that the master cylinders have had to be replaced on some cars so mines booked in on mon to have both sorted.

fire in my car? s:flame: :flame: s:flame: s:shock:  s:shock:
Dealer offering to sort it free? At a time of my choosing? s:) :) s:)

I doubt your insurance would pay out either if your car caught light and they found out that your car was called in and you ignored it!

going to print the one off here and take that with me too, as the one they posted seems to have missed off the " free valet and top up your fuel" s:) :) s:)

Got to be honest, I haven't taken mine in either - mostly because I don't want them to 'test drive' my car and promptly wrap it round a tree.
I trust dealers
that little.
I did get the letter, though - a month or two after the original post.

I'm a little worried about that too.
Although slightly hoping they will only gently bang the front bumper and have to replace it for me. I still haven't got it repainted!
I guess I'll get them to do the brake master cylinder at the same time.

Don't forget there's a little incentive with this recall, I got £15 worth of fuel, not a great deal I know but still something for basically nothing s:wink:  s:wink: and it's not a biggie that involves road testing, just a quick visit and inspection in the workshop with any necessary adjustment then away you go.

Hi Les,
Did your letter mention the fuel top-up, or was it just a pleasant surprise on the day?
Cheers,

Hi Stu
Check out my post at the beginning of this thread in the attached letter with the paragraph "Customer support package" s:wink:  s:wink:
HERE (http://www.mr2roc.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22552&st=0&sk=t&sd=a#p281312)
No such section in my letter - and I'm aware it doesn't require road testing, but you can bet that will happen anyway if the car is left with them.
And based on how long it took them to pop a plastic popper back in (three hours!) once, this would be an all-day job at my local dealer.
Quote from: "aaronjb"No such section in my letter
Nor mine, so im printing that and taking that with me also s:) :) s:)

aaron is right I have long since been too scared to ever take my car back to the main dealer for fear of them sticking it through the wall of the garage or something.

*Poof* RCS900 evaporated before Christmas, along with Browns in High Wycombe. Apparently they were related. Octagon in Reading also have a branch in Bracknell, just off the Wokingham junction of the 329M.
Hi All,
My 2 is booked in at Inchcape Guildford for this recall work. They said it takes 3 hours(!) - the letter said 1 hour.. s:? :? s:?
Given this, I am having to pay £10 (+VAT) for a loan car. Shame really, I'll end up out of pocket by getting recall work done, which doesn't seem right to me. Wonder if they'll top up with fuel - I doubt it somehow.
Disgruntled of Surrey
s:( :( s:(
I had mine done last week, it took less than a hour and they did top up the fuel.

If it's anything like my previous experiences with Inchcape Toyota at Guildford you'll go back there after three hours only to be told, "We'll just be starting on that one next".
After the second time it happened I won't touch them with a bargepole now.

Thanks for that. I'll definately ring up before leaving to pick it up now.
Cheers,
Pleasently surprised today.
Took the car to the Oxford Toyota today, yes, in all the snow, after originally booking it in last Thursday.
Before the original booking, I receved a call from them saying tehy had checked my car an it also needed the brake master cylinder check as well so could I leave it all day with them.
They didn't have a loan car so I couldn't do it. They booked me in for this week and organised a car for me.
Got there this morning amongst all the snow to find them discussing how many of their people would make it in today.
Still, got my car booked in, mentioned the turbo and the oil leak I've got and told them not to worry about it.
Picked up the car (1ltr Aygo urrgg) and set off. They offered me the lower £50 excess (standard is £1000) for £10 which I took but they didn't actually charge me for in the end.
Got a call just before lunch saying all was well and I could go and pick it up again.
They had even valeted it inside and out.
Bonus.
Simon

To be fair it was 7:58 so they don't really open until 8:00

was gunna take mine in today but gunna ring and cancel for now due to snow. fyi, i emailed the guy at toyota GB to see if everyone was due the free petrol and valet as it wasnt mentioned on my letter and he said yes, it should be in the garages system to do that so ensure that you get it.
heres part of the email......In terms of this service campaign, Toyota Centres will automatically know to add some fuel for visiting them (there is a set amount for this,) and to valet the vehicle. While this is not included in the letter it forms part of the overall job and comes as a nice surprise to those not expecting it.
With regard to the oil change, this affected the first 850 vehicles of this campaign so not all will receive this. This was in conjunction with Toyota Centre Marketing Services and your Centre can advise you whether your own vehicle is included. david crouch
Hey, I've not received a letter but the audio fuse sparks abd blows as soon as it gets anywhere near its housing, does anyone think this could be the reason why?? thanks s:) :) s:)
If you ring up Toyota and give them your reg, they should be able to let you know whether the recall work was done. If not, they'll do it for you for free, you just need to get the car along to them...
thanks, i'll do that :-) :-) :-)
Hey thanks so much for the advice- my car never had the recall work done so they've booked me in for next week! It might not have anything to do with the fuse problem but fingers crossed! s:D :D s:D
Good luck with it - another thing to tick off at least s:) :) s:)
I have an MR-S just bought it privately, i did not get a letter, does anyone have more information on this? I know it was some time ago.

Probably worth a phone call to a dealer, but is it is an MR-S then, as an import, it may well not be on their records. Ask the dealer to have a look under your dash just to be safe maybe?
I've just had this exact issue happen with my car now. I wonder if they would still honor the repair :-D
