Title: SMT -> Manual (Conversion)
Post by: Jap GT300 on February 11, 2004, 16:33
I thought I would create a new post so that threads don't stray off topic.  As you may know during my 2ZZ engine conversion I am also having to convert the car from an SMT into a Manual.

I already have the gearbox a clutch pedal and linkages but have just realised that I will also need a reservior and pipes as our clutch is hydraulic.  Does anyone know where the reservoir is usually located?

I also understand that the MR2 manual pedal box has to come as a complete unit (three pedals).  You can't just add a clutch pedal to an existing SMT setup (two pedals).

Hi Adam,

You can see the clutch reservoir (I believe) in this picture (http://mdtech.servebeer.com/~aaron/underbonnet.jpg) - it's just to the right of the brake reservoir & servo..

[edit: Picture was courtesy of another MR2ROC member who emailed it to me ages ago.. Except I've forgotten who that was.. sorry!  s:oops:  s:oops:  ]

Ahhh the little one.  I'll have to try and get hold of that then.  I don't think we'll have the gearbox side of things done for a little while.

I have just ordered the Clutch pedal, Reservoir tank and gear linkage with all mountings from a salvage 2'.  This has cost £60 + £10 delivery from  w www.mjauto.com (http://www.mjauto.com) w  in Thurrock.

Additionally I have got coming the TRD short shifter and brass bushings.  The shaft is on its way to the US.  I think everything is rolling for the conversion.

Maybe he was typing one ha... I'll stop right there  s:shock:  s:shock:   s:lol:  s:lol:

Good news though Adam - won't be long by the sound of it, and for an engine swap and SMT->manual conversion, that's no mean feat..

Just bought a couple of bits from the very same car myself. Unfortunately, having had a good look over it (Its an X-plate, manual in Astral Black - Hard frontal), I can confirm theres bugger all left on it.  s:( :( s:(

I know, I've got most of it on my car.  Steering Rack, PAS pump, Carpet, fenders, even the broken headlamps!

Did you notice if the rear nudge bar (connecting to the Chassiss legs) is still there?

Thanks

I dont think it was on the car, but they may have removed it to take the engine and exhaust out out, meaning it'll be in the big pile of bits at the side... I'll be in Thurrock again tomorrow, I'll pop in for you if you like and take a look.

Yes please.  I'm not sure if I should get the shifter cage as well.  Could you also see if that is there.

Thanks Adam

As I recall, it is. Not a TRD though unfortunatley. The whole car was clearly a mod-free zone. Cant have belonged to anyone on here then!

PM me your phone number, and if they have them I'll give you call and let you know how much he wants for them.

I came across some useful photos while I was surfing this afternoon.  This shows a TRD short shifter being installed.

I have received all the parts I ordered but have just realised I dont have anyway of connecting the reservoir to the slave cylinder.

I presume there is a long hydraulic hose that runs front to rear?

Here is what I have.

When doing this conversion you will need the Hydraulic hose this is a mixture of solid and rubber lines that run underneath the centre of the car and through the transmission tunnel.

We have also recentley found out that the SMT wiring loom may not be suitable and should be replaced.
