Anyway, I decided to sell the car despite it was running perfectly but I wanted something sportier, lighter, more nimble and rear-wheel drive. Couldnt live without 2zz so I started this project:

unfortunately the car was lightly neglected and needed so minor repairs like broken left mirror, matt headlights, broken shock and knocking right driveshaft, one brake caliper stuck, broken electric antenna, took me some time to bring the car back to its glourious state s8) 8) s8) then started little modifications:

lightweight car battery and moved to the front of the car, greatly improved car balance! the mass distribution went from 44/56 to 45/55, highly recommend

I built my c60/c64 gearbox hybrid, sshit shit sshit er shaft modified out of mr2 shaft and corolla shaft, it works. Oem mr2 lsd and longer ratio 0,725 6th gear for reduced cruising rpm (stock is 0.815)

unfortunately sandwich plate won't fit over bare engine block as the thermostat hits the engine. Will have to use standard heat exchanger, I will use 1zz one as it is 1cm lower than 2zz one and it matters because when you add mocal the oil filter is dangerously low

oil cooler mounted on stock tapped body points, piece of cake. I used elastic mounts, then I made an air dam/guide so that all of the air from side vent goes directly to oil cooler

Very good point with the oil cooler radiator air guidance. However, you will have some considerable amount of flow going above the cooler (already tested).
May I suggest to add another metal sheet (or whatever) on the top in order to have all the air flow going through the cooler.

Does anybody know if I can fix air dam to tte front bumper? I cant remember now but beleve there were no holes under the bumper. I was thinking of buying the airdam from dealer (meeerrkk posted p/n in other topic).

I decided to freshen up the brakes. All calipers were checked, new gaskets mounted where needed, the calipers painted with vht flame proof which turned out to be like powder coating, after baking at 300 degree C the coating is strong and heat proof. New Hel brake lines and new rear discs, the pads and front discs are ok. When they're gone I will think about some brembos or corolla ts front brakes, for now they're ok

Back to the most important, the engine. The head p&p is finished, sorry ant upload the photos how it was made but will upload photos of finished head soon. Right now head is at shop which does the valve job, replaces valve seals and the head will be skimmed 0,5mm for bump in compression ratio to 12.0:1. Tomorrow the head is ready to assembly so be ready for some new photos of engine assembly s:) :) s:)
Oh I forgot - I made my own "cosworth" phenolic intakte gasket - I had one in my corolla and it worked wonders, but for me it is a bit too pricy so I made one myself from exactly the same material. And another one for throttle. If there was interest I could sell them as I have much material left and cad file ready to cut them

The head is ready and assembled with eibach springs. We mounted the head, then went on with pipercams stage 2 cams but unfortunately we were down on shims for inlet camshaft, had to order 8 of them (despite we have like hundreds of them in different sizes s:D :D s:D ) so then engine work is paused till friday

hmmm I was planning at first to remove and dump charcoal canister (because I needed space for oil cooler), but it looks like it is imposible without cel... I have a problem now, because I already sold my 1zz with most accesories. I have hard tubes to canister and from canister to engine, but that's it. What are other parts of the evap system? Is it only one valve (vsv) from this diagram?

-intake manifold finished, cleaned and bolted to the engine. In short all runners were portde, polished, portmatched to the head and composite gasket, the same from throttle body side.

This is something youre gonna like - I made my own anti roll bars s;) ;) s;) I had some experience with doing the same to my corolla with great results. I made them the same diameter as whiteline (22mm and 18mm) but with more holes for adjustability. Then powder coated

Loving the DIY anti roll bars
The engine is in the car!
But for starters:
-oversized oil pick up for better oil flow. Also note 6mm custom spacer for oil pickup. Stock 2zz oil pan has 11-12mm from oil pick up to the bottom of the oil pan, that is too much and this is why it is so easy to spin rod bearing. Cosworth and lotus engineers advise to have the oil pick up 5-6mm over the bottom of pan for protection from oil starvation, so this is a trick I recommend to any 2zz builder, take notes! Then 1zz oil pan is much better than 2zz because of the divider plate. It need a little modification to fit 2zz oil pick up, see photos below

Engine mounting. It took 4 hours for 2 people to fit. Note my custom bridge mount, it is a modified corolla t-sport part, it just needed some drilling, tweaking, a little spacer below (5-6mm) and fits like a glove. We didnt disconnect the ac compressor, so it was with the car waiting for the engine. I need to bolt it to the engine when it was half-mounted to the car, wasnt easy. Then the accessory belt - 1745mm long with a/c and mwr alternator wheel. A lot of time was consumed by oil lines to the cooler, it has to be tightened before engine goes in and needs to be 90 degree turn by the cooler, with I knew that before fitting engine s:) :) s:)

they are just the same as whiteline. In steel there isnt really much about type of steel when it is on twisting momentum, all type of steel has the same 80gpa shear modulus which is responsible for twisting strengh. So it is all about dimensions (diameter, bar or pipe), but then it must be coil type spring with wide elisticity range

in my experience lowered oil pick up is enough in 2zz to feel safe and 1zz sump is just for insurance. I'm not big fan of bigger pans because theyre are low in the car and more oil - more weight s:lol: :lol: s:lol:

I made them on the pattern of whiteline, the diameters I found on the internet. The holes location I took from tte bars ass my friend has a set but didn't want to sell me (even though he doesnt even have an mr2 but is planning to buy one s:lol: :lol: s:lol: ) so I made them myself. I had previously done arb for my corolla, heck they worked so well I even organized group buy on local forum and sold like 30-40 of them s8) 8) s8)

Sounds good! Do you fancy doing the same here? Arbs are expensive from whiteline, so if you can do approve that is more in line with mr2 budgets them I'm sure you'd sell plenty!

Many have and state that it makes quite a big difference. Unlike a rear strut bar,which apparently is a waste of cash
It depends what suspension you have IMHO.
With coil overs I think as much bracing as you can get.
With standard ish spring and damper a mid style brace would do for most.
We all have different ideas however so whatever works for you.

Obviously later cars benifit from better bracing from the factory so that makes a difference too.

Neeed help please! The engine doesnt start without a little gas, then dies if I let go the gas pedal. The revs are unstable. Theres engine light on but I dont know what code because it is jdm ecu. Did I swapped the tps wires correctly?

The wires are correct. Did you do the wires at the ecu end correctly?
to be honest I;m not sure if all the wiring is correct because I did it 2 months ago, but I remember I checked everything 5 times before doing anything, I think the tps wires I did good too. Tps was my frist thought, but if this is correct I'll try the coolant temp sensor, I have a spare. Then I think I will try to read the code and maybe that will help.
Another bad news is I lost coolant reservoir cap and cant driv without it s:evil: :evil: s:evil:

Thanks for all your help guy. I checked everything as you suggested but it turned out the IACV was faulty, even though i cleaned it like 3 times before install. What's more, I had one spare lying around and it was faulty too! I believe these dont like being unused for long time. The shaft inisde IACV should rotate easily with no effort at all, mine didnt. After repair the engine started right away s:) :) s:) Then after warming up the revs fell really low almost stalling the engine so I needed to adjust idle revs at the iacv, look at the photos below how to do it for reference.

The engine run smoothly now, but the ecu needs some learning yet, it has troubles to catch revs as I let off throttle the revs fall really quickly, thats because the crankshaft and flywheel alone are 6kg lighter than stock, but the ecu will adjust to that. There is still cel on dash, but I bought usdm ecu and will check the codes, then go back to jdm ecu. I havent driven the car yet because now we have problem with bleeding the coolant. The hose right after thermostat is cold, no warm water coming to radiator even though the water had almost 90 degree. Could it be faulty thermostat? Or air pocket in system? Here are photos how I connected all the hoses but I believe it is all correct

My engine was doing that, I didn't realise it was because of he flywheel and needed to learn. I just put it down to the fact my engine was an utter pile of sshit shit sshit e! So thanks for the info

Getting the thermostat out is really a huge pain i n the ass, especially in cars with a/c... It tokk 1,5 hour to get it out, test it and of course - thermostat was ok! s:twisted: :twisted: s:twisted: turned out the plumbing to heater core was wrong, even though I did just how mwr tells to do and exactly the same as original 1zz had. Then 3-4 hours later we managed to bleed the system, we need to raise the front, then raise the back, then use pressure gun to push the water in the tank to get every little last bubble out of the system, big job! In the meantime the car went out of fuel, then after refill engine didnt want to start... After checking out everything turned out the ecu didnt even give spark, so we scratched our head for a long time... There was cel but no way to read code as it is jdm. Thank god I pought yesterday usdm ecu and the package arrived today, replacing ecu and the code was p0335 - bad crank position sensor wiring. Again I had to pull out a/c compressor and the ecu was right, somehow I broke the sensor cable. Lucky I had 2 other 2zz's around so took another sensor and the car started witohut a single light on the dash s8) 8) s8) s8) 8) s8)

I did 50 km in the car yet and still breaking in the engine, but at 4k rpm and half throttle the car i reaaly fast, much faster than original 1zz. Soon there will be some videos of engine noise as it sounds like there is a demon behind me s:D :D s:D
having trouble with p0300 and p0304, also the engine pogs when pressing go pedal more than 20%, what could it be? I already changed coils, fuel pump, maf sensor and with no luck s:cry: :cry: s:cry:
Injectors flow rate the same
I tested all my injectors before putting them in, 1 of 8 was bad, I chose 4 best. Colud it be bad spark? Or worse - leaking intake manifold gasket?
Its possible it could be the gasket and the leak is near cylinder 4 hence the random misfire and cylinder 4 misfire. Another idea is the plugs?
ok, I swapped plugs, coils and replaced the o2 sensor, so far no trouble code (except the one for second o2 sensor not working properly, because it is gone), but there is p0300 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected pending, in ecu memory. Also the engine still bogs at medium to high load. Could it be that the trouble code is just an effect of the bogging? What causes this, any ideas?
Is this load issue more noticeable at a certain rpm. I'm wondering if the tps voltage output is off so putting fuelling out.
what is your air intake made out of got pictures and the size.
I know it looks like there is something wrong with tps, but I swapped the wires correctly (see few posts up), also I tested the tps with multimeter and it reads linear with rotation. The intake is stock maf tube from corolla tsport and fujita cone filter, I ran the same intake in my corolla with no trouble at all. I think Ill try different positions of tps wires

the tps itself is ok. hmm what about pcv hoses, I capped of all holes on the intake manifold and throttle body (except the ones for evap and braking assist of course) and the plumbing from head cover I run through oil catch can and then vent to atmosphere through air filter, could no pcv system cause misfire and bogging?
Have you checked the injector o-rings? Could have possibly damaged one fitting the injectors and it's created a vacuum leak.
no the injectors are fine, I putted them with engine out and took good care with doing this. Right now there is no trouble code at all (despite p0141 or something for missing second o2 sensor). The engine still bogs at throttle applied more than 20%. I think these are the things I will try soon
-replace all coilpacks even though the misfire code doesnt come back
-install all pcv hoses back, now I have all holes at tb and im plugged and hoses open to atmosphere through occ and filters
-chceck fuel pressure even though I replaced the fuel pump from corolla ts
-reweld o2 sensor hole as right now it is between two mufflers, I think it should be near the manifold/downpipe flange

Why did you change the fuel pump? Which ecu are you using ?
I changed the fuel pump because all the symptons suggest low fuel pressure. But I replaced it with another used one, that was sitting in my garage for 2 or more years so cant say this one is perfect.
Right now I'm using celica gts usdm ecu, have jdm ecu as well and the car behaves the same on that ecu
Oh ok, you changed it because of problems. I think you can rule that out then. You'd be unlucky to have two fail in the same way.
Fuel filter, Partial blockage maybe? Just trying to think of things other than the pump.

Yeah closed throttle is high vacuum.

Do you have a gauge for vacuum?. It should idle at around 20 inhg. And go to full vacuum when throttle closed and engine breaking. That will show if you have a leak on your inlet
Unless I've missed it you have not mentioned if your maf is reading right. Have you checked it with obd reader?
If it is faulty or reading low. The ecu will not give the fuel.
Also have you tested the tps signal at the ecu to see if you are getting voltage there?. The tps may be wired and working but is the ecu seeing it.
this is important I think - after reseting ecu on cold engine everything seems fine, the car rides like a dream, very strong. ps: today checked fuel line (it was ok), replaced maf for another one (cleaned before), checked injectors, and still no trouble codes. Having troubles still to read sensors on computer through obd, pcmscan reads vss, rpm, iat, water temp but thats it

thanks guys for your replies, really apreciate your help. Turns out it is something related to tps - I listened to advice saying disconnect one sensor at a time and see what happens. Guess what - disconnected tps and the engine runs perfectly! It is very strong a rev happy, and sounds like a bike too! s:) :) s:)
But what is strange, I suspected the tps in the first place and checked everything - the sensor, the wiring loom and it was all ok. I swapped tps wires correctly too, I uploaded pictures to forum and members confirmed it is ok. The only solution I see here is maybe they were wrong, and I swapped wrong wires? Can somebody post a picture how exactly tps wires should be on 2zz?

Back to my engnie troubles and how I solved it - turned out I didnt ever had to swap tps wires, this is how my tps is wired now and the car runs perfect! I doon't know why, I chased all wiring loom from ecu to tps, checked the wires, It was all connected how it should be (ecu pins e2, va vta) but it didnt want to drive, but now it is a monster

I also fitted my breastplate, it is laser cut 4mm steel, weights about 2,5kg and now driving roof-down is a pure pleasure, I didnt like the sloppiness of the car before but now it is a different animal. Also cut some more for guys in polish mr2 club

nut run in yet but almost! s:lol: :lol: s:lol: I will be using motul 300v 5w40. A friend in corolla 2zz with pipers stage 2 had 210bhp, I'm hoping for little more bacause of full pnp head and manifold work, compression bump, exhaust and intake and some minor stuff like mwr wheels, thermal gasket etc. Wish for 220 on stock ecu, that will be a lot!

breaking in is done, oil changed to motul 300v 5w40 a the next day first 1/4 mile. I managed times in range 13,5-13,7, best time was 13,4 so I was quite happy. I was faster than many muuch stronger cars like corvettes, carrera 4s, maserati, bmw m6, 370z, golf r, s3. Had similiar times like merc 45amg or 350bhp turbo miata, lexus is-f

I planned 1000km, but managed to do only 800 s:lol: :lol: s:lol: This is how I always break in 2zz:
-first 100km very gently, low load, use 1000-3000rpm
-the more kmhs/miles you go the higher you rev the engine, but not full throttle/full load, just rev higher using 20-30% of throttle
-the last 200-300 kmh more load, occasionally full throttle on low gears (lower load on the engine than using higher gears and higher speeds)
The most important thing imo is to use all the rev range (except lift) but use low throttle, so its better to break in city driving, not on highway. Or you can go on highway but keep changing gears 3-4-5-6 and accelerating and slowing down all the time

About your JDM ecu. When does it go to lift and when it hits the rpm limiter?
Do you have a wideband O2 sensor?
Holy goodness, that´s something like 4.5 - 5.0 s to 100 kph if I correctly assume from those clips. And that sound.
I have to say I cannot spot a difference between jdm and usdm ecu. The usdm is the early one, single wire knock sensor, same as jdm. For now I can say that both of them hit lift at 6000rpm, which is something new for me, because in corolla ts it was always 6200. Limiter though I think it is around 8300-8400, again the same on both ecus. Also I didnt notice any power difference, but for now I drive with jdm and use 98 ron fuel, but this ecu throws a cel and I cant read jdm ecu

Did you use 1zz or 2zz knock sensor? is there a diference?
How much do you think its making jawor. i had a mate work out 0-60 est times and if i ran 250ish bhp id be about 4.6.
I believe there is difference between knock sensors, I used oem 2zz knock, single wire. I dont know howm uch bhp it makes now, but I can guess it is between 210-220

by the way - what performance brake pads are there for spyders? Ferodo ds are for fronts only right? Looks like the only option is ebc yellow... black diamond predators are road pads, so wont last long on track.
The same goes for sport shocks - is there anything more than koni yellows?
How are you getting on with the performance of the car?
Brake wise the best option in term of performance on standard calipers is probably the race ones which they tend to use in the championship - carbotech I think they are.
I've also used Hawk performance which I found very good, front only though. There aren't many options for the rear

Roll bar interest here, what about the front lower brace like on the FL cars?
it would be around 45 pounds for front bar and 40 for the rear bar, powder coated but without larger bushings (front 22mm instead of 20 and rear 18 instead of 15), but for bigger orded I could try and search for some universal polyurethane ones (thats what I installed in my car)

a lot to be said for tubular steel. Think of rolling up a piece of paper, it can support a hell of a lot more weight than just the paper straight.
guys, I deciced that I will first make some arbs in my local club, I have 4 guys interested so after 4 sets the process will be fully tried, perfected and tested, I wanted to make some here for them before going "worldwide". As for the breastplates, if you wish I can order breastaplates and send them right away in a week or so. So far 3 people were interested, I think I could even lower the price a little bit when ordering a bigger number and sending to one location so that would be for these guys to test and form an opinion. I personally felt the difference with bp on, I would compare it to driving with softtop up or down, similar difference with breastplate on.

Frankly I think both with do the same, but I think Matt's/TTE brace has breadth in its favour. A small Corky's breast plate has to hold the car stiff by controlling a small area, whereas the TTE can spread the load across its whole size.
Leverage basically. You can hold a cup straight by its handle with the tips of 3 fingers, but it's a lot easier to grab it with your hand.

Just as a note as corkys has been mentioned. He does two types one that is an x brace that incorporates the breast plate and just the breast plate on its own.

With car fully prepped I attented to my first track driving and to be truth my first fast driving rwd s:) :) s:) I started at local rallysprint, it was old military airport so the surface was concrete and asphalt. I managed to come first in my class s8) 8) s8) 1.6-2.0 liters and 5th in general, finishing in the middle of really fast 4wd turbo cars. I even managed to run 2 of my 4 runs faster than the overall winner who was driving 500bhp evo 9, I lost 5 seconds due to one barrel I barely touched s:oops: :oops: s:oops: really really happy with the car and still I have to learn how to drive it better

Also im thinking of reducing some weight, but I still drive the car on daily basis. Any ideas? Maybe carpet and sound deadening? Or custom fiber bonnet, engine cover and hardtop with lexan window hmm s:D :D s:D
today I did the geometry and it turned out that some of my rear wishbones bushings are shot s:cry: :cry: s:cry: are there any polyurethane bushings for rear on the market? Especially I need the ones that sit inside rear axel carrier
I'm sure GT4-Play can sort you out but...I expect you to be able to make your own bushings by now! s:D :D s:D haha
Yes super pro make all the polybushs for the rear apart from the one on hub at the bottom.

Removing soft top will probably save the most weight of all the things you can do. I think on spyderchat there is a list of weight reduction items, but from memory the battery and exhaust are the easiest wins, everything else starts getting reasonably expensive if you want to keep it as a daily driver.
I have already made cad project of all rear bushings and search for company to fabricate them. I have 3 offers now, neither is cheaper than full rear set of superpro bushes with shipping form Australia s:D :D s:D also i'm waiting for package, I bought ripped softtop for cheap so soon some weight reduction

recently I repaired tyre puncture, checked fire extinguisher (lsd is not mine, I have one already) and replaced power steering fluid. The fluid is not easy to find it needs to be eh type, I found ansoil fluid which is suitable for toyota ehps. 1 l is enough tu flush the system

complete sofftop assambly with everything related to it weighs 28,2 kg. The bar and side brackets weight 4,4kg, which gives weight reduction of 25kg, not bad. for reference complete hardtop weighs 22,6kg, so less than softtop and it is muuch much stiffer and safer. I removed some gaskets and seals from the ripped softtop I bought and thrown away what was left of it

i have done exactly the same on my car,
basically cut the brackets for the seat belts / bar off the soft top, which is why he brought a ripped soft top, ( i just cut up my good soft top) re fit the brackets and bar back in the car
the car under the soft top has a felt carpet thing that covers all the metal anyway so just refit that put the bottom bins back in and done

Had some fun last week during 4age.pl club meeting. It was cold and damp and my federals had no traction, but it was really much fun. Managed to do 125kms on track, emptied almost full tank of fuel and killed rear tires. The car run faultlessly all day, the engine didnt even take any oil.

I have similar plans with my soft top as it is ripped - WOuld it be possible to drift/remove the hinges for the roof to leave the Bar and Brackets all as one, without cutting anything? I haven't got my car with me now to check!

had some fun modyfing car last weekend. First I mounted supepro rear bushing set> Already have front bushings from energy suspension and love them, but I felt there was something wrong with rear axle. The originals bushings however looked really fine, but on inspection turned out the wheels were moving all sides few centimeters s:? :? s:? decided to buy full rear set from superpro. I managed to install them myself in garage, without lifting car up, just on stands. There are two bushings that are hard to remove, the ones in trailing arm. One bushing is in arm, the second is in axle carrier which is pita. You have to destroy/drill the rubber so the center steel sleeve goes out. Then you have to use steel saw to cut the outer, thin sleeve, then bend it and remove.
The bushings in other arms are easier, use cardboard knife to cut outside rubber, then use long bolt, nuts washers to make a tool to push bushings out, they come out easily. Installing new bushings is super easy, superpro fits perfectly and they send a lot of sticky grease for them. I also bought larger 18mm swaybar bushings for uprated swaybar.
the difference in ride is amazing, the car now feels stable on fast corners and going uphill/downhill on corners, where weight is moving front/rear, thats where the car was scary the most before. I highly recommend going all poly for cars with 100k kms or more on clock, mine is 160k kms.
Other things - I had to repair rear caliper as it sticked, I reassembled everything/ cleaned/greased and it is works fine now. I also repaired my winter wheels (oems facelift), the corroded a little so scrubed old lacqer and sprayed new, its temporary repair I will do full renovation on spring. I wasnt fully happy with my spray job so I plastidipped them black s:) :) s:)

I did something similar with an ebay SS & had larger bushes made up to compensate. Extension on the top & the shift sits right next to the steering wheel s:wink: :wink: s:wink:

nearly bought a TRD few months back.......
I attented another great racing event. It was grand prix of my hometown Olsztyn, it is a rallysprint that is the last event in season so it is for the viewers and drivers too s:) :) s:) The fun factor is there is no class for professional drivers, the classes were divided only for 2wd up to 1.4, 2wd over 1.4 and 4wd. So it was great opportunity to test myself against some real pros and great machines. The preparations I did was cut tires deeper and obught new camera for onboards

There were 47 drivers, 15 of them professionals, 20 cars in my class. I finished 11 overall and 6th in class wchich im really pleased with. But could be muuch better if I hadnt troubles with gearbox at run 2 s:( :( s:( lost about 6-7 seconds, had to stop to engage 1st gear.

Mr Jawor. What oil pickup did you use? You mention an oversized one with a 6mm spacer. The spacer I can have made easily, but where'd you get the oversized pickup from that fits the 2zz?
Also, do you have AC?

I'm considering it for mine. Which is a road car that occasionally sees the track. So I want to retain some degree of comfort.
I didnt notice any downsize at all, my old rubber bushes were worn out (150 k km) so the difference in handling was big, before the car was quite scary ie going uphill or downhill on curve, now it is how it should be from factory
hi guys, I have a little problem with my mr... last week after fuelling up (shell v power nitro) and driving ca 5-10 kms I noticed strange engine bogging, hesitating at 2000-3000rpm with full throttle. At higher revs everything seemed fine. didnt have any strange engine codes except for problems with catalyzer (because I dont have one so I am used to these truble codes) but pcm scan showed me one pending code P0171. It means fuel mixture too lean. It could be caused by:
-too low fuel pressure (not likely I think, or maybe bad injector?)
-intake air leak (possible, because of my intake manifold gasket)
-water in fuel (that was my first thought as it all started just after filling up fuel)
-exhaust leak (didnt see any cracks or louder noise)
I also decided to check my spark plugs (which I installed brand new when assembling engine ca 5000 miles ago) and look what I found:

So now there is question - Is my fuel mixture really lean (even though the code was only pending) and it caused two plugs to crack? Or bad fuel caused that? Or maybe the plugs were faulty and they caused problems with engine?
Tomorrow Ill buy new plugs and I am in between Ngk BKR6EIX-11or colder BKR7EIX-11 - what do you think?

You're running way way way too lean causing temperatures to be mental. Those plugs have been deep fried.
What are your valves like you have to wonder.
I would guess it has been lean, I can only imagine plugs would do that from excessive heat. Maybe the winter fuel mix is not good for the 2zz? Even though they call it the same thing, I bet the v power nitro is a different blend through the seasons...
Have you had fuel starvation? I see the picture of you with the gas can, maybe when it was running out this happened?
Actually... Aren't you running stage2 cams without a piggyback ECU?
Doesn't that cause massively advanced timing without fueling to match?
That won't change timing or AFR (cam just let's air in, nothing to do with spark timing) but because more air is in the cylinder it may be closer to det, in which case richening up would help avoid it...
Yes Im running stage 2 cams on stock 2zz ecu, but mwr say the stock ecu can manage these cams. i didnt have ane afr related trouble code before, on earlier engines neither. Could bad fuel (water in fuel) cause that? Right now I am waiting for my mechanic friend to check engine, we will do compression test to check if engine internals are ok, but despite bogging on wot the engine seemed to run just fine
I recently had a p0171 as a result of a faulty lambda sensor.
todays work:
-replaced lambda sensor
-checke fuel pump, seemed ok,
-removed few liter of fuel from the bottom of the tank, but the fuel looked ok to me
-added liqui moly fuel additive to clean injectors, pistons, valves
-removed all injectors and did flow check, theyre all ok
-installed second lambda sensor emulator to get rido of check engine light (no cat)
Started engine, idled for few minutes, the revs waved from time to time, but all in all engine worked ok, no trouble codes.
Tomorrow I will install new plugs and see what happens

Today I replaced plugs for new ngk ones, 1 step colder. The car runs fine, no hesitation or engine bogging at all, but engine stalls from time to time when warm s:( :( s:( also when hitting high revs and pressing clutch, revs fall and engine stalls when driving. No check engine light, but there are pending trouble codes - p0300 and p0450 s:cry: :cry: s:cry:
You've already checked the fuel pump right? Charcoal canister connections all ok? Been overfilling with fuel by any chance?
The P0450 came up on our celica, which went away after I changed the fuel pump. It's something to do with one of the sensors for in-tank fuel pressure or something
EDIT: Sorry, the above makes NO sense. Not in-tank fuel pressure, but the pressure of the vapours

do you need to put power to the injector? or is the 12v only for the pump?
you need 12v for pump (dont miss +/- on pump or it will work the other way) and 12v for injector to open. I did the same injector test when assembling the engine, and 1 in 8 injectors I had was faulty! It flowed like 20% of the rest, I was really glad I did the test otherwise I had 50% chance of damaging new engine
My problems with stalling are gone, I reseted ecu and now everything is back to normal. I think it was something with the fuel, because everything else was ok (except for plugs, but they could be damaged by bad fuel). I added half of bottle of water remover just to be sure. Tomorrow I will change oil and filter

Good work buddy! I think i might just get them cleaned and flow tested, i have had a quick look and its £12.50 an injector, and based on what you have told us above, seems like its an activity worth doing!!

I also watched new spark plugs, I did 20-30 miles on them. The car runs perfectly good now with no cel, but still I think theres problem with lean mixture. I still have half a tack of thet bad fuel, filled up to full with 98 petrol and I will still watch the plugs from time to time

First round of milanocup rallyspirnt is away, I managed to score 1st plasce in class and 6th in general of 50 cars s:D :D s:D

The rist two runs I was head to head with evo9 460ps fighting for 3rd place, but on last round my rear tires said good-bye and it was over s:) :) s:) but I had really mich fun and car was great. The biggest surprise of the dat was 1st place in general of little citroen saxo - the car was set up perfectly and the driver did no mistakes, all guys form powerful evos and imprezas were scratchind their heads hardly s:) :) s:) for me it is now time to invest on some good bucket seats and proper suspension setup, and of course new tires s:) :) s:)

I can't fault the 4/6kg spring setup on the BC BR-RA coilovers. Although for what you do it might even be worth going 5/7kg on the springs and controlling the damping for uneven surfaces. Where the 4/6 will become a bit springy at low damping, the 5/7 should hold firm.

It was a great ice rallying season, 5 weeks racing non stop, almost 1000kms on studded tires sideways, sometimes at speeds reaching 180kmhs s8) 8) s8) and 5 full fuel tanks.
But there's a but - racing at these conditions is not easy on bumpers, wings and other plastic stuff, so when ice became too thin it was time for tebuild of some parts - so came new bumper, new wings on the right side, new right door, new head and tail lamp on the right side, new side mirror and antenna s:lol: :lol: s:lol: and then new engine oil, new top millers product - cfs nt+

Props for doing something really different with your MR2.
Excellent video & shows some great driving. It reminded me of when I used to navigate on Motoring News Road rallies when a lot younger in a full house Ford Escort RS2000 - we were more sideways than straight....great fun. The car performs extremely well & that 2ZZ engine just sings.
Had for forgotten about this car.

Sometimes I miss the days of building the car, the engine, it was fun too and it makes me wonder what to build next, but then I realize I cant think of other car that offers so much grip in dry, so much fun in wet/slippery, open roof in summer and reliabiality. I even considered buying something new, gt86 or focus rs, one is fun, but slow, the other is fast and fun but german s:) :) s:) so for a while I have to stick to little mr2. Maybe some full race mods in future? who knows
