Title: My Silver '04 Project
Post by: jamesm182 on March 8, 2016, 22:12
Hi all,

As some of you may have seen in my new member's post, I recently flew up to Glasgow to collect a 2004 Facelift from another member on here. I was looking for a low-ish mileage facelift with A/C and hardtop and there really weren't many around!

It was a long and lonely drive back after a delayed flight but I got home eventually and now have a nice little MR2  s:) :) s:)

The MR2 has joined our other car - the Lexus IS250 in the background (our main family car) and is now my daily driver. So far I've been really impressed with the car and the handling. I can't say it's the most comfortable place to spend 7 and a half hours, certainly compared to my Lexus but that's not why I bought it!

Current spec:
- 2004 Facelift in silver
- Hardtop and A/C
- 64000 miles
- New Falken tyres
- Recent discs and pads all round
- TRD manifold
- Custom induction kit pointing towards side vent with RAM air filter
- New KYB shocks & Tein springs
- Recent rear subframe
- New power steering UJ
- JDM (screaming chicken?) badges
- New front fog lights

I think that's about it...

So, after having a good look around the car, I've come up with a little to do list which I will do gradually as funds allow, to get the car how I want it:

- Fit new stereo as the original Toyota one is pants (Done - fitted Pioneer MVH-AV270BT)
- Refurb alloy wheels (Done)
- Re-Gas air con (Done - had 3 grams left in the system!)
- Fit LED number plate/sidelight bulbs (Done)
- Paint calipers red
- Polish up headlights a bit more
- Sort out a few small bits of paintwork dotted around the car
- Refurb or replace the front underbrace as it's quite rusty. Suggestions/cost of replacement? Are these only on 2003 onwards cars?
- Sort out some rust under the front plastic bits/frunk. Looks mostly surface but just want to stop it getting worse.
- Sort out/clean up general surface rust on various components underneath
- Locate and fit a TTE exhaust
- Locate and fit a facelift leather interior, although this will be one of the last things I do as I've found the standard facelift seats surprisingly good - especially in red!

Couple of pics after the wheel refurb:

Interested to hear any comments/suggestions! Can't wait for the weather to improve to make full use of the roof too!

Thanks mate, looking forward to the weather improving now! Think it's meant to warm up towards the end of this week which should be nice - it's miserable today!
