Title: Suction Cup Roof Rack
Post by: Zzepa on April 19, 2016, 21:01
When I bought my 2 I knew I'd run into this issue eventually. On the occasion that I can't rely on my mate and his VW camper I need to be able to shift my surfboards with my only car, at high speeds, for long distances. I think I've found the solution.

I never knew this was a thing. Look at it. It's a thing of beauty. They're pricey but there are examples of DIY jobs on google images such as this.

The front's easy. I've got a hardtop so I'll just slap one of these on.

The rear however. I'm probably going to buy a luggage rack and modify it so it has a horizontal bar that is high enough to clear the roof.

Not the ideal way to enjoy an mr2.
Do you think the cops and insurance company would be ok with it.

I know but at least I get to surf  s:) :) s:)
Just so happens my VW camper buddy is a traffic cop, he says I'll be a-okay. I work with tradesman and I've seen these things take a large males weight, builders bum and all. I'd probably shell out on the first example I gave though, because the second one does raise suspicions.
I'm not however certain about insurance. I didn't think I'd need to declare it but if someone wants to correct me then I'd be most grateful. I'm not adverse to trying something else.

Why mount them horizontally - you could attach them to the near side wings and strap the board to them...
