Title: The Green Goddess
Post by: H1GRM on October 18, 2018, 08:36
[/font

So my first dilemma:

Having bought Steve's Green MR2 Turbo and enjoyed her for a few weeks do I keep her on the road through the winter or SORN her at the month end?

The idea is that The Green Goddess is a good weather, top down, enjoy driving again, fun machine.

She is garaged about a mile from my house as I only have room for two cars.

Paying monthly for Road tax so is it worth it for the odd winter dry crisp day?

What do you guys think?

The link is to Steve's ramblings so as to keep continuity on the car:

You've basically bought one of the most well kept cars out there... the salt on our roads is horrific. If you're able to be disciplined enough to rinse off the salt after each winter run then you'll be fine.. otherwise you've got to be ok with the slow but sure corrosion of everything.

I don't see the point of owning a 2 and not driving it. ( Apart from when its at the garage )
Tbh if I owned a Ferrari 250 GTO I would still drive it whenever the mood took me because that is what it is for.
You're going to be waiting a long time before these cars are worth enough to justify be locked in a climate controlled garage.
Just enjoy instead.

@Ardent (https://www.mr2roc.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=20018) will have something to say on the matter I am sure.

So you have other cars to use which is a similar position to me as well as owing an iconic 2
My 2 only goes out in the dry and mainly in the summer months but does get out in the winter on dry days
I have the Quattro TT for crappy days and with the tuning box it's way quicker than the 2 so I get spirited driving in all weathers to put a smile on my face
So to answer your question I suppose if Greeny is a long term keeper then keep it for dry days
Each to their own ultimately

So without searching through the forum, whats the view on under body protection, Waxoyl, Dinitrol Etc.

There is a company near me called Rustbuster who have a very comprehensive looking web site with loads of info (https://www.rust.co.uk/)

Is it worth the money or does it just cover up the problem?

My Dad ran a garage from the end of WW2 up until the late 80's and always used to spray "keepers" with used engine oil!!!!!

I guess you have to check that your insurance was going to be valid if sorning it?

I personally wouldnt want to not drive my car for months.

I have bought some ACF50 corrosion inhibitor which seems to be highly rated (if expensive) and you just spray that on so certainly sounds easy enough but I havent got round to it yet.

I looked at them. But I ended up going to a fairly local company on reccommendation from others on here. They use dinitrol products. They remove trim, mask off stuff, and steam clean, wire brush and treat with Dinitrol. Had it done 6 months ago. Around £600

Good question! I'm not capable of quantifying it. How do you assess how well it's performing unless you take the treatment off again to inspect the condition of the metal underneath? The company offers a free re-inspection after 6 months, presumably they'd be able to see if any areas have become exposed again, and re-treat (I'm overdue my return visit). In terms of their customer service I was really happy. And they have many returning customers and testimonials. But that's not exactly an empirical way to assess how well the Dinitrol is preserving my car.  The company was Preserve and Protect in Johnstone, for info.  I knew I had to do something to halt the corrosion, the underside of my car was a complete state when I got it, and my plans for the car are long term. My fingers and legs are crossed anyway  :)

I would say it's worth doing, just to preserve for the future
Bernie has ultimate benchmark for the underside of 2s !!

Yes.
nuff said.

you owe it to greeny to keep her excercised.
Make no mistake you have bought a very highly desirable car; in these circles.
Outside of here, it's an impractical, low powered, slow, hair dressers car.
We know otherwise, but you get my point.

Lets face it, these cars change hands for peanuts in the grand scheme of things motors.
We are not talking Goodwood revival stuff.
Molly coddling them. No.
Should be like a jack russell on acid.

Hold on, ssssshhh!
I can hear greeny from here, wimpering, thinking her new master is going to lock her away in the dark with no prospect of play time.  (:< >:)

Ok points taken, the Goddess will remain taxed insured and on the road at every fine winter day we get. I will be saving up for some form of underneath treatment.

Waiting for a stainless plate which I am having made to fit the centre rear section in order to mount a Jap size number plate (now that she is registered as Y55 GRM) Y = year 55 = year I was born and GRM = my initials)

Then its the Zunsport lower rear grill - maybe the kids can buy that for xmas or Birthday!!!

We are definitely out and about tomorrow on the sunny roads of South Lincolnshire.

Started reading the links in the above and a rust removal tool caught my attention. The MBX metal blaster. Looked an impressive "weapon"
With the power of Google I quickly found this For Sale.
I also found the following link that compares the performance of the MBX against a drill attachment.

PS:if you are reading this you will know that appropriate PPE especially eye protection must be worn

What it's all about
Title: Re: The Green Goddess
Post by: MisterK on November 24, 2018, 17:38
To go back to the original question about what to do with the car during the winter, I'm of the opinion of most of the others on here - use the car when you get the opportunity, but don't take it out on wet & salty roads.  Like Bernie, I too am lucky in that the MR2 is a luxury and I only use it for pleasure as I have the Auris & Motorhome for all journeys of necessity.

Having owned the car from new and it has been garaged every night  :-*, the car's condition, both bodywork and underneath is about as good, if not better, as I can expect for a 14 year old car.  The subframe was treated with dinitrol inside and out over 8 years ago and the whole underside of the car was treated with Hammerite underseal whilst up on the ramp at Steve's at D1 Customs 3 years ago.

I was considering 'Sorning' the car next winter, but I've decided to keep it taxed and insured for a couple of reasons - I can use the car on sunny dry days which keeps things ticking over, and I've also got an extra car to use in an emergency - I've got aged parents who live 140 miles away!

The car is my pride and joy and it will never be sold in my lifetime, so I will do everything I can to keep it in A1 condition.  It was on the stand at the Classic Motor Show at the NEC a couple of weeks ago and attracted a huge amount of positive comments, so I must be doing something right.  Last week the hard top was put on, the cover was put on it and Trickle Charger attached and the car is now tucked up in the garage until we get a nice sunny dry day so I can take it out for a spin and put a smile on my face  :).

It sounds like you will be doing the same to the Green Goddess, so enjoy it  -  if I had a numberplate in your format, my number would be 56  ;) so I think we're in the same ballpark!!

As Head Coach to a swim team I often attend competitions on a Saturday/Sunday. Nothing on today so decided it was a good day to do some Christmas shopping.

Weather was dry only a slight chance of wet stuff, so... time for the Goddess to emerge for the 2nd time in 2 days. Top down over to Stamford and back via Spalding not another 2 to flash at either way but had FUN!!!!

You have wisely purchased one the very special cars in the club.

It's a keeper.  It's an exhibit!

Please, please, take look at the underside of my 2001 MR S.  No sprayed goop underneath and absolutely clean and sorted.

Once a car has been gooped - that's it.  Someone else coming along has to deal with that stuff when they want to work on it, and any future prospective owner will wonder what it's hiding. You wouldn't do it to a truly valuable classic!

My car gets used rear round.  I wash the underside using a pressure washer and 'Salgon', to remove any salt, a couple of times during winter and once in spring.

I detail the underside once a year.

Take a look at the picture at the bottom of my thread....

Just to build on Carolyn's advice above, there was a photo posted on the Facebook page this week of a cracked subframe that you couldn't see any surface rust etc on because it was coated in some form of waxy gunk which had also cracked the same as the subframe.

You're absolutely right about opposing views on the forum and elsewhere. The difference on the forum is that all of the for and against arguments are backed by reason and evidence where possible.
While we can't (always) give the "right" answer, all the information is there for you to base your own decision on.
That's part of the reason I love the forum.
And people are open to suggestions

So there is a box under the tree which I know has the "shiny bits" in to finish the Goddess's rear end.... looking forward to fitting that after Christmas.

Planning ahead I probably ought to get an OBD II reader in the new year. Most posts on the forum seem to recommend the Torque Pro App for the phone but there does not seem to be any specific recommendations for the actual reader.

All recommendations gratefully received from you helpful Ladies & Gents.  :notworthy:

OBDLink LX.

I know it's pricey... But I've had at least 4 other cheap OBD devices and they either broke, disconnected intermittently, drained battery or were very slow.
The OBDLink has connected to every car I've put it in instantly, I have it plugged in permanently, and it's noticeably faster. Also, it supports more functions.

So yes, a 4 quid ebay one works fine for the occasional code read. But if you want a lasting solution... It's worth the outlay.

If you know someone in the US who comes over to UK, ask them to buy it and save almost 45% as the UK price is almost double that of the USA price

If you're on iPhoney then unfortunately you have to get the pricier MX version. But that's your punishment for having an iPhone :)

The bonus is, with the Torque app, its not just for reading and clearing codes. All sorts of parameters you can monitor.
Like a heart rate monitor for the car. Only lots of different hearts, if you will. (I know you will understand)

Fuel trims long and short reveal an awful lot about the overall well being of the engine. (think in terms of lactate) The closer to 0% the readings the better.
Nice to see what the O2 sensors are doing.
All sorts of things you can monitor.

Mine has an on/off switch so yes. Otherwise I would not as it does use current.

I have involved my son /16 y.o.) with it. Hé has the app on his phone and can see revs., throttle %, braking and a whole lot more live. I think the app uses the accelerometer of his phone to combine data in a cool screen.

I have done.

As well as the live stuff, the torque app can be set to record the data for analysis later, quite funky when you import the data in to google maps and zoom in. Have oly used torque pro myself. but think there is another that is highly rated. Think it's called Dash command. (to be confirmed by others)

I would take @shnazzle (https://www.mr2roc.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=18356) advice and just buy a quality one in the first place, I'm on my second cheapo, initial connecting was bit of a faff.

Looks good with all the shiny bits added.  Personally I think it's a shame that the Zunsport Centre section is in 2 parts - it might look better as one unit with the number plate on top of it, but they must have made it that way for a reason.

I fitted the top grille to mine years ago but left the bottom ones as standard with a standard number plate. (photo taken a few years ago - rear spats have been added since!)

Have you also got the front grille and air intakes from Zunsport?

Looks good with all the shiny bits added.  Personally I think it's a shame that the Zunsport Centre section is in 2 parts - it might look better as one unit with the number plate on top of it, but they must have made it that way for a reason.

I fitted the top grille to mine years ago but left the bottom ones as standard with a standard number plate. (photo taken a few years ago - rear spats have been added since!)

Have you also got the front grille and air intakes from Zunsport?

Yep I agree about the centre section it would be better as one bit. I have a stainless centre section behind the number plate to which it attaches.

The front grille was already on the car as were the engine cover air intakes. I think they do something for the side vents but I am not sure about those.

Your car looks great so even better now.

I've got the black ones.

Then it all works.

I'll post a pic tomorrow.

Had another go at tidying the rear end and as it was crisp and dry had a "top down" run out for the first time this year.

Passed a garage offering MOT's for £35 so stopped and ended up chatting 2's for 20 minutes, owner used to have one. Her's is due next month so checked the number plate would pass, yep says he. What about the handbrake? takes about 5 clicks to start to bite, should be ok says he, so as Arnie says "I'll be back".

On the run home we celebrated turning 40k miles so must get round to a mini service, already got 5 litres of Millers Nanodrive 5W40 NT from Opie (15% off over Christmas) and 4 new Iridium plugs.

Happy New Year to all.

Title: MOT fail
Post by: H1GRM on January 18, 2019, 23:26
Thought i'd get the MOT done early and then do it again at the end of the summer which would seem a more sensible time to ensure decent weather.

Failed on Emissions. Evidently the CO is meant to be 0.3 or less and she was 0.4.

MOT guy was helpful, nice guy with a motor-sport background, used to work on race engines etc. He asked if the cat had been removed so a quick call to Steve (s12veav) confirmed this.

I can only think of two options:

1) buy and insert the cat.

2) modify the ECU - not sure about this. Did a bit of research and as it is the piggy back onto Mr T's ECU now understand that this cannot be reworked.

Replacing the ECU and a different map might work but is likely to prove costly.

Any ideas oh knowledgeable people?

Another option; one might, while replacing the pcv valve, forget to reconnect the hose.
And in disconnecting the pcv hose, one might have put the back of a spark plug in the end of said hose to prevent debris from going into the engine....

This inadvertently would lead to one having a car where oil fumes were venting to air without knowing...
And one would not have known that said oil fumes would not then be going back through the cycle to get burned and come out the back as HC

As it's Carbon Monoxide, it's almost certainly a cat issue.

And it's pretty close to almost OK!!  Although, with a really good cat, it would be WELL below .2.

I think a bottle of Cataclean in 1/4 tank of petrol and a very spirited drive on the way to getting the emission re-checked, and she'll get through.
I'd give the tester a call and see if he'll do an of-the-record emission test for a tenner, just to check.... Run her at over 3,000 rpm for a minute or two in the testing bay, to get the cat good and hot.

If that fails (I'd be surprised), I'll help you put a replacement cat on.  (That's just an excuse to get a close look at a great car!!)

I suppose for catclean to work, he'd need to have a cat.

Fitting one would definitely be the way forward.
On a side note, I'm very impressed it got 0.3 without one

I wonder how much (if) the precat that comes as part of the TTE kit has on the numbers?
Or are the numbers just down to everything being tip top.

Will be intersting to read Gregs observations once fitted.
Improved, no change or reduced performance?
Change in acoustics?

Does anyone know for sure if the SP downpipe brought anything to the party?
Mr Ts performace figures for the vanilla TTE were based on the stock cat and single exit zorst going back on.

I say that simply based on the installtion guide shows the stock zorst going back on.
Does not say, must fit the TTE zorst.

Do we have anything in the archives for a stock TTE with stock zort vs SP down pipe.
I can probably answer that with a no. But happy to be proved wrong.

Then again there was that rolling road shoot out post from years back. @spit (https://www.mr2roc.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=823)
£5 to the club if the answer can be found.

From memory sp backbox took tte turbo power from 184 to 197 as was designed for turbo application.
I would expect the decat to add 5 to 10 bhp the cost was im sure £279 for the decat pipe when new.

Correct also you could fit tte turbo kit with standard backbox.

OK, you've got me there.

We did have a member who moved from TTE and stock back end to SP but we lost track of them and as far as I can recall they didn't run pre/post dynos.

Anecdotally, the closest I can get to your scenario is ninjinski's butt dyno and take on acoustics (although this was with TTE rather than stock zorst pre and post install). This verbatim from 2006:

Quote from: ninjinskiJust back from having the main CAT removed and the SP downpipe fitted (plus and oil change and a new seal for the TTET) and first impressions are that the downpipe DEFINATELY has an affect on performance.

I remember reading people here saying that the TTET was the way the car should have come from the factory, well with the downpipe thats the way the TTET should have come from the factory. Its that good!!! Money well spent!

The car feels smoother and revs much better pulling through much more of the rev range and the car is faster, noticably faster.

And my TTE exhaust now sounds somewhat like it used to prior to the TTET being fitted which is a nice bonus!

Yep passenger rides welcome.

So De-Cat pipe removed and 2nd hand stock Cat on. Initial CO readings were worse than before - Oops. After a good blast and getting her as hot as possible we just scraped through the test. Fast idle 0.20, Natural idle 0.22, however I am not sure that the sensor was in the right place (may be a bit of fresh air wafting!!)

The car definitely feels more sluggish with the Cat in situ and the idle is not smooth, sounds different to, a bit muted. No dyno test before or after so just going on the sensations experienced.

Oil change & filter (Millers Nanodrive CFS 5w40 NT+) De-Cat pipe refitted Goddess back to her normal self. Just needs a good clean at the weekend.

To wax or not to wax that was the question.

Rob Marshall of Car mechanics Magazine visited "Rustbuster" in December 2017 and here is the article:

So as Rustbuster are only 10 miles away that helped in the decision process.

Some badge re-engineering too.

Would love to find some TF300 seats with the red insert, failing that keeping an eye out for some red leather at a reasonable price. I considered re-trimming but that seems mega expensive.

Then on to a shiny repaint of the wheels, in red of course.

All insired by the red interior of BRG lotus elan's

So me and the Goddess have been boosting around on a daily basis with such corking weather.

Today's little trip saw me drop my wife off at Peterborough station and then it was over to Rushden to finally take advantage of Carolyn & David's hospitality.

Just a social visit really but we got the car on the ramp and had a good look round. Carolyn immediately spotted the handbrake needs adjustment, a job before the next MOT, but seemed to think everything else was "A" ok.

I spotted the "new" front braces some of you are waiting for, nice looking job Mrs C.

Next on offer was a quick run in Carolyn's Spyder and falling in love with the TRD short shifter - more Rocking horse pooh on the list!!

Finally thanks For the hospitality, stimulating conversation and I even got back in time to pick the other Goddess up from the station.

Kick panels fitted, 6R4 ordered to spray the key covers and waiting to collect the Rota wheels to see what they look and feel like on the Goddess.

The other Goddess says that the ride is rather harsh sometimes on our pock marked local roads, so maybe moving back to 15" on the front and 16" on the rear with the subsequent tyre wall height will soften things up a bit.

Hopefully the AD08R tyres will still give me the same grip as the Falkens on my 17" SP alloys.

At least then I can choose which wheel tyre combo suits best and then maybe get them refurbed in gorgeous Red.

So getting as true a stock feel as you can. 26 front. 32 rear.
The warm weather may influence the pressures.
Will definitely influence level of grip available.

So getting as true a stock feel as you can. 26 front. 32 rear.
The warm weather may influence the pressures.
Will definitely influence level of grip available.
How many lateral G's would you like.

Yep intend to check the pressure's on the way out, going for 28/32.

Why 28?

I agree with you but it's going to handle so much better on correctly sized alloys and quality performance rubber that it probably won't matter.

Handles superbly. Obviously you cannot get near the limits on a hot dry day like today, but feels ace. The only noticeable difference is in the way it rides the bumps and holes, more forgiving.

28 because if anything the outer edges looked a little more worn so thought that would even things up a bit.

When you say more worn.
I don't think the fronts have even covered 400 miles
@Bernie only had them on for a week before I had them, I never covered more than a 100.

Yep apologies wrong choice of words. Obviously how they come from the factory, centres are 7mm outers 5 to 5.5mm. So I thought run them a bit high and the centres will take slightly more of the wear.

Check all my tyres across the tread pattern monthly + those belonging to the other Goddess (F word with 4 letters  >:D ). The Jeep is the best one they still have 9mm centre and 8mm edges....

TRD short shifter fitted and a quick drive to test. All good and feels very slick.

Big journey tomorrow as I am off to Dick Sloan's to fit my new Red interior. 5am start and looks like the weather may be kind. 440 mile round trip so if you are on the A17, A1 or A66 keep a lookout for the "Green Goddess"

Hi Greg, that's exciting, it will look fabulous when it's done.  Now, if you had said you were going out on Friday then I may well have seen you on those roads as I'm heading north then but you're going the better day as Friday is going to be very wet. Anyway enjoy your day and look forward to seeing the seats. :)

Just back from my marathon drive, left at 5.20am, 430 mile round trip. Impeccable behavior, as you would expect from a "Goddess". Top down both ways with just a few spots of rain on the A66, just drive quick enough so you don't get wet.

Full tank of Shell V Power and refilled just before home, she averaged 40.1 MPG doing probably an average speed of 75MPH on the A1 and other dual carriageways. Very pleased with that.

Pics to follow tomorrow of the "Red Leather" Didn't see another 2 until I got to Dick Sloan's, (Great guy by the way, could have talked for hours) and not on the way back either.

Dick handed me the keys to his 260BHP turbo for a quick trial which was interesting although not as smooth as mine.

Red was the colour of day - See in Spotted thread.

Was it his 1zz turbo?

That is very fast followed it round Scotland in my SP240 and it was in a different league.
Title: Re: The Green Goddess
Post by: H1GRM on August 8, 2019, 15:45
Yep, he has just put it back on the road having used up his insurance mileage on the 2zz.

Not fair to drive someone else's car too spiritedly, felt quick though but felt the bumps on the road and the gear change was notchy, Dick said its a short shifter at both ends of the lever which would account for that.

Love the Carbon fibre bonnett.

About time I fitted the gear lever gaiter to match the rest of the interior, nice easy job as I was sure I could manoeuvre it in from the top. I thought wrong.

Seats out, centre console out, electrics uncoupled and an hour later I managed to clip the gaiter in properly and reassemble. I had forgotten all about doing this sort of stuff but pleased at the result.

Having a week in Greece very soon so wheels off at the end of last week and onto axle stands. Drop of Goddess Green on the calipers this weekend, the Hammerite hammered finish is very nearly the same colour as 6R4.

Took said wheels this morning for the paint job. The first thing he does is check they are straight and one is slightly bent, showed me there and then so an extra £40 to have it straitened. Hey ho sh*t happens.

Can't wait to see the results  8)

Fitted the new PCV valve first thing and got out on the roads.

Couple of short journeys either side of luchtime and a super cross country run to Thetford and back for a Swim event this evening. Thetford Forest on the way home, top down, just after 9pm was loads of fun. Boys and their toys hey....  ;D

Managed to get the front strut brace on today. Needed a little more frunk plastic trimming but looks good. Just need to fit the rubber trim I have bought to finish off the plastic where it has been cut.

Fitted the trim to the frunk lid where it has been cut. Leaves the area around the strut tops to do.

Does it make it look finished off?

Gorgeous afternoon over here on the east coast. Should I finish edging the frunk plastic?

Better to go for a nice top down "spin" well not literally.

Met up with an old friend, ex merseyside copper with loads of stories to tell but the big smile was from driving the GG.

Decided to get the frunk and strut job finished this morning. Took the brace off again to trim the frunk a bit more. Added the rubber trim around the cut edges, glued for good measure.

Also added a complete set of new plastic "push fit" clips to the frunk as well.

Pics below.

Hopefully a run out this afternoon and if it stays dry will use her for our trip to the cinema tonight.

We get to most films, except real horror stuff so it looks like the new Terminator tonight.

At last a dry day. The problem with living in a rural farming area is the mud and s**t on the roads at this time of year. Of course there are benefits too.

Nice drive out this afternoon to blow out the cobwebs, me and the GG, stopped a few miles from home, in the middle of nowhere and took a few pics, only the camera phone but have posted two below.

Nice ride out this morning and hoping the weather stays fine for the Cinema trip tonight.

The GG is due an MOT in Feb, which for a good weather fun machine is not ideal.

Want to move it towards the summer and happened to drive by a garage today whose owner I know from way back.

Stopped to say Hi and mentioned the MOT and last years debacle due to emissions. Car was hot so he offered to check said emissions. No CAT but only slightly over the limit, he stuffed a rag around the probe and the reading dropped to an acceptable level. Don't know why that made a difference but booked in for Friday morning and hopefully a pass.

Goddess out for the cinema trip yesterday. Dry but very cold, down to zero on the run home.

Read lots on here about the Yoko AD008's and cold temps, but didn't really notice any difference in grip. As it was so cold I am sure I was maybe a little more careful than usual but feel you would have to really explore the limits to get into trouble.

More concerning was the gritting lorries, fortunately the two I saw were not oncoming so the bonnet was saved from a splattering.

Dry morning here, max temp going to be 6c in mid afternoon so might explore the grip levels a bit more later.

Interested in others opinions about this.

With correct alinement, same branded tyres all round and you're driving to the conditions you will be fine in a 2.

Formally once known as "greeny" has the above as does my current car and it's very planted in all conditions :)

Hi Steve,

What would you have used?

When I had them painted, John the owner of Wheelcraft recommends just a top grade polish with very soft tissue paper. He is dead against any form of lacquer as a slight chip will then retain water underneath and its all downhill from there.

Interested what people's opinions are?

Certainly did. Not much in the way of twisty bits but the Goddess feels really good at the mo.

Had to have a little fun when a "hot hatch" sat on my rear, to close for comfort. He drew beside at the first piece of dual leading in and out of a roundabout, so in the interests of safety I allowed him to exit first before using a little bit of boost  ;D

I realised how dusty she is when I got back, still plenty of time for cleaning next week as all swim coaching off the agenda.

The Jeep got a make over on Friday, so yesterday was the Goddess's turn, didn't really need it but I had a cunning plan. Parked in front of the Jeep and I knew we had to get household cleaning supplies from Wilco's which is 10 miles away....

Oh sorry the MR2 is in the way, well we may as well take it for a run. 10 miles there 10 miles back for essential supplies and it was heaven  8)  8)

Title: Only Numbers
Post by: H1GRM on May 30, 2020, 16:31
I have been using the Goddess every time I can, top down of course. Living in the countryside means trips are required for all essentials, shopping etc. So I feel well justified getting her unwrapped and "boosting" around the lanes to get to places. I never tire of the lovely purr she makes.

So yesterday, dam, nearly out of milk, so off we go and we enjoyed a significant number, always liked numbers.

Hope everyone is ok, as you can tell from my ramblings, like most people, I am
getting fed up, after all there are only so many times you can mow the lawn, paint the fence etc.

Lovely weather yesterday, shopping required, so a nice little "B" road jaunt seemed a great idea.....

Until a Pheasant decided he wanted to take me out. I suppose it could have been worse but nearside headlight is toast.

What were the chances...

I believe you can still get just the lens if the rest of the headlight is still ok?

If not Dick does get good ones in every so often, or its TCB or Toyota for new ones.

As Steve said, rather just the headlight than the whole front end!

As for fogs, as a direct replacement, Prius fogs are identical and much cheaper.

The truth is and you already know this.

Sorry to hear about this Greg, as people have said, it could have been a lot worse.  Jolly annoying though all the same.  Think you may need a brand new one as a used one (unless you are very lucky) won't match the other and if you're anything like me, it will bug you each time you look at her if it doesn't match. :(

New headlight and fog ordered from Paul at TCB @Paul@TCB

Headlight £177 Fog £47 plus the dreaded VAT.

At least the GG will be returned to her usual high standard.

Will take the front bumper and bonnet off and have them resprayed to get rid of the growing number of stone chips.

So when I finished this last October, I used all new trim clips, supposed to be "easily removable" broke 7 out of 18 getting them out at the weekend ready to take the bumper off for painting and finally the replacement headlight and fog.

Let me know if anyone has used clips to hold the frunk cover in that do actually release!!!

Taking bonnett and bumper for painting today - at last.

@Ardent She doesn't need persuading on a MR2, its the timing of things and waiting to see how work plays out in the next couple of months. She is, of course, right so I'm sticking to the original plan of buying in November (even if that does mean no green roadster).  Here's the link (https://www.gumtree.com/p/toyota/2003-mr2-vvt-i-facelift-model-/1382219723) for anyone who wanted a nosey.

Check the history of it, it has failed its MOT quite a few times, but nothing unsurpassable if you did want it.

Hi BF, my understanding is yes, the 6R4 colour (some say Forest green) is not a common colour on the 2. I had always steered (ha ha) clear of green cars but have to say it is a really deep colour that definitely suits the car. Of course not every one likes the red touches but takes me back to various sports and performance cars of the 60's that were often BRG with red leather and red wires.

Been "sorned" over the winter so had an MOT on Monday 4th ready for the summer???

MOT passed. No Cat no issues.

MOT guy said that older vehicles are not subject to the same standard of emissions testing as newer vehicles, evidently there are 2 program's they can run on the emission's test and as we are of a certain age we qualify for the less stringent mode. Didn't know that....

Hope you are all well and enjoying your 2's

It seems that cars manufactured/registered before September 2002 need to have both CO and (HC)³ measured but from that date onwards only CO is measured. If I've read it right (table on page 12).
