So, as suspected, the T1-Rs have now been discontinued.
They have been replaced by the TR1

An interesting point in the PR that's just come from Demon Tweeks is that the asymmetrical pattern and a stiffer sidewall means a firmer ride.
Now clearly, that's the thing a lot of people hated about the T1-R.
I'll be interested to see how people fare with these as they hit the mainstream.
Sizing is interesting.
With Facelift
The most obvious would be to use 225/45 R16 on the rear (so you don't need to look it up, standard is 215/45 R16)
They match the standard fronts - 185/55 R15
PFL they have the matching sizes as per Toyota specification (205/50 R15 on the rear, fronts as above)
Demon Tweeks don't have any of the sizes right now, so you'll need to find someone else to supply.
How are they on load and speed ratings?
Quite telling that the mouthpiece they've got recommending them is an off road racer and multiple winner of the Baha 1000..
Should suit a lightweight Roadster down to the ground.[emoji23]

PFL: the rears are 89V XL so should be more than good enough.
FL: Most importantly, they're (IIRC) the same as the Goodyears - 93W XL
Fronts are 82V XL which are fine for this car.
If you're looking to go over 150mph, these tyres probably aren't for you though :))

I think the MR2 gearbox will only allow about 140. Anyone know the actual top speed?
I've clocked 130mph on autobahn so more like an actual 120mph.

You don´t want the ply rating higher than needed = needlessly heavy. Quite aptly ´overrated´ :D
That was my main reason for going with the yokos.
They are the closest match to Mr T spec.
Spec
V81 fronts W86 rear.
No requirements for the XL. Extra load is one thing we do not have.
OK, so when I was out on tour last weekend, someone pointed out that the T1-Rs didn't throw water up particularly well (although they didn't seem to aquaplane quite as well as the AD08Rs :)) )
Toyo say that's also addressed in the new tyres.
Now here's a problem. I don't need new tyres at all - mine have pots of grip left.
However, Demon Tweeks currently have 20% off everything via eBay which brings a whole set of 4 TR1s down to £155 delivered (obviously, plus fitting)
So does someone else want to be the guinea pig?

FYI, it works on anything over £25 from Demon Tweeks and a maximum of £75 saving (so sorry, those alloys will only allow you to get £75 off)
Unless they have made significant improvement to the sidewalls I'd steer well clear.

It does happen although I think it's the cold that really does for them.

Very tempted by these but with Rainsports only £20 more expensive for all 4 it's a big gamble.
I've been running T1R's for years 195/55/15 fronts & 225/45/16 rear and have been very pleased with them...before anyone says anything, they do what I want from a tyre & don't cost the earth.
The T1R's now need to be replaced due to age not wear & I'm going with TR1's the same size as above....they should be even better than T1R's (for me ;) ) and again are cost effective. I looked at AD08's but can't justify the cost based on how few miles I do :)
Only problem is that 16" tyres not yet available in the UK when I last enquired (I spoke to Toyo UK Head Office) so I'm putting off replacing the tyres until next year now, but it will be for TR1's. By then I'm sure someone will have bitten the bullet and got a set and posted a review. ;D
You don't have to try AD08R they're not for everyone very expensive and not for all season. How about falkens or anything that's not so soft on the sidewall.
They make for a comfortable ride and do grip very well but ruin the feel IMHO.
I'll wait & read an independent test. Toyo aren't going mention any deficiencies in them.... ::)
See if they beat the K125 Hankook.
For more tyre choice that ebay code also applies to mytyres.
plus it applies to a few other motor factors including car parts in motion (regular seller of Mr2 KYB shock absorbers)

Found a guy on Cliosport.net who uses them on his Twingo RS and rates them highly in the dry and I was on track with him recently and he wasn't hanging about with them fitted. He also rates them on par with Rainsports in the wet.

@Kimmy50 has just ordered some.
I've been running these new TR1s for about a month now and they're awesome. Much, much better than the previous T1Rs and I hated those sooo much. Running stock sizes, 185/55r15 on fronts and 205/50/r15 on rears.
The sidewalls are firmer but nothing over the top to ruin the ride. It's an improvement and these are actually more comfortable than any of my previous tyres to be honest and these hardly tramline which is a bonus.
The handling is awesome, no understeer or oversteer so far with spirited driving, just seems to grip. Braking distance is awesome and also did a quick test yesterday in the rain from 30mph and it pretty much stopped the same as in the dry.
I did notice that these had a longer bed-in time than usual and were quite squirmy until then but other than that, can't really fault them yet. These definatly get a thumbs up from me.
