Title: Selling Price of MR2 2001
Post by: Mr2Car on November 17, 2021, 17:34
Hi as I'm in the middle of relocating from Scotland to the Staffordshire area, I'm wondering what the selling value of my MR2 would be roughly? It's all original inside and out as far as I'm aware even down to the original radio and its cover. It has/is owned by two lady drivers and came with full service history. I have kept all the paperwork for work down to her. She has been cherished by both of us. There is the usual chips and marks that an old car would have.
It is MOT'd until March, it does not use oil like some of them are guilty of. It would be in need of a new soft top although it looks rough it's still water tight and the wheel arches would need seeing to but not unsightly. She currently has 87000 miles on the clock.

Im just testing the water at the moment.

Thanks for any replies.

Carol

Needing a new softop brings the value down quite a bit. The most popular fitter is in Swansea, but he's booked for months into next year.
What do you mean by "the wheel arches would need seeing to but not unsightly"?  It's not usually a talking-point with these cars?
Do you know what condition the rear subframe's in?

They are starting to rust just a little, they are by no means bad but if I was keeping her I would get the work done.
Not sure about the subframe but I can ask my garage to have a look. I was planing a new soft top, what's the name of the person your mention in Swansea please?

https://www.facebook.com/JackRSmithMotorTrimmers/  But owner is called Raymond.  I've never dealt with him, but hundreds have.

The wheelarches in these cars are protected by inner liners, so they don't usually rust....? They do down underneath behind the front wheels.

If your car still has the the plastic undertrays it is almost impossible to see where the subframe usually 'goes'.  They can have holes the size of a fist & not be seen.

Based on experience over the summer, it's a tough sell if it needs a new hood. Based on offers I received over eBay, it was around £1300 tops but that was a facelift car two years newer and without rusting arches.

The rear quarter panels are bolt on/off for what it's worth.

The roof is a conundrum as IMO it's doubtful you'd get your money back in replacing it for a new Swansea one.

People need to stop kidding themselves that these cars don't rust they do. Early pfl are starting to show there age.

Look on auto trader high price  and we buy any car low price.
Second hand car prices are up.

Is the car still in Scotland? If so, whereabouts? I could possibly take a shufty over it for you depending on distance (& weather).

Hi yes she is based in Scotland at the moment. Thank you very much for the kind offer but I wouldn't want anyone going out of their way and Aviemore is probably well out of your way! I have popped her into my local garage to have her checked over and let me know what work is needing done. The mechanics can't look at her until the beginning of December.

I am not 100% sure I would be selling her, I was just interested in what the market value might be?
