Title: The road to Swansea
Post by: Mr220Mike on October 20, 2022, 21:07
Evening all,

I'm booked in to have my roof done on the 5th November. The 5th is my partner's birthday so I thought why not kill two birds with one stone. So she is getting a romantic night away in Swansea  ;D

I'm toying with the best route to get there. On the one hand I could go straight down the motorway alternatively I could add two hours to the journey and head over to North Wales and drive down through Wales. I live near Sheffield so not too bad a detour.

Does anyone have any tips as to the best routes through Wales?

Thanks Gibla, that's helpful. If the weather is appalling I'll just head straight down the motorway. If it's looking dry we will take the scenic route I think. It seems a shame to just sit on the motorway when you have such great handling to enjoy

:) its defiantly worth the extra time and effort to have a drive through wales 8)
your thought if the weather is crap just go straight there is worth thinking about ;D

Raymond is character don't mention politics :))  :)) and very enthusiastic

if you want to cry stay for a bit then watch your being cut open then you go for a walk beach not far then in a few hrs your back to pick it up  .

@Gibla knows the roads around mid and north wales so ask away if you want more routes or plans.

the lane roof man in is busy  with cars i walked in 1st time just to find him.

OK, here is my suggested route, it takes in some fantastic bits of Wales and you will feel like you have had an adventure!;

Route (https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Sheffield/Leek/52.7538297,-2.3826016/52.4563473,-3.4681617/52.3558901,-3.493648/52.1821087,-3.7498327/52.137064,-3.7371429/51.8240775,-3.8616656/SA1+4NQ,+St+Helen's+Ave,+Swansea/@52.493636,-3.8369467,8z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m26!4m25!1m5!1m1!1s0x48790aa9fae8be15:0x3e2827f5af06b078!2m2!1d-1.470085!2d53.381129!1m5!1m1!1s0x487a384d09986301:0xa05e78a5f8b07976!2m2!1d-2.023393!2d53.109152!1m0!1m0!1m0!1m0!1m0!1m0!1m5!1m1!1s0x486e8ad362a93861:0x6c022d2ceda35cfa!2m2!1d-3.9617501!2d51.6148225!3e0)

PS Its a bit hard to find, it is in the alley that runs behind the sat nav address.

Waiting outside the dentist....

PPS I would take this route even if its raining!

a good cross section of Wales just do it that way both times or way there or back. 8)  8)
you will need to keep roof up for a few days to stretch  your new roof out is the best advice 8)  8)

So, the road to Swansea was a bumpy one. Came out of work Thursday to find a flat front tyre and a huge screw stuck in it. Managed to inflate it and get it home, cue frantic ringing round trying to source a tyre for first thing Friday morning. I ended up replacing all four as they all needed doing really, so with that done we set off.

Got there about 3pm and put he strolls with a pair of scissors, checks that I'm booked in for the following day and proceeds to cut in to my roof straight away  :o I got a call at 10:45 this morning to say it was ready so. Great service and really happy with the roof. It has transformed the look of the car. Pics to follow when the weather improves.

Glad you are happy with the new roof.

Looking forward to seeing which route you took!

We came home on the route you provided Topdownman. After all the annoyance of the morning we just took the most direct route on the way down. Anyway, all done now and the tyres needed doing anyway so this just forced my hand a little which I'm pleased about in retrospect given the weather we had yesterday.

Did he have any verdict as to why the original roof was so stiff Mike? I think from your other posts you'd had it down over the summer but just curious more than anything else. Glad you're all sorted

He didn't Joe but to be honest once it had been used a bit it wasn't at all bad. Could it have been through a lack of use? I'm really enjoying the car, it continues to perform faultlessly, I've done 5k miles in it now and I've enjoyed them all.

;D it was a little alarming. He'd just done one then was doing mine and had another MR2 in the workshop when I went to collect mine. Not sure if it was anyone from here.
