Title: Checked a couple of prices with MrT
Post by: TheTigerUK on November 9, 2022, 11:03
I had no intention of buying from them but just thought I would do a comparison.

Rear nearside brake caliper £440

UJ 45260-17141 £396

Looks like I will be going TCB for the UJ £55.20 on ebay (cheaper than going direct ? ) now ordered through ebay.

Brake caliper exchange is £83.38 plus VAT at TCB is that the best option or would you recommend anyone else ?

I think because I will have my garage fit it a complete caliper will be the best route.

When you can get thru on the phone they are very helpful and efficient. Paul is such a nice bloke to deal with.

Today I have also been gathering a couple of quotes to have some work done, I have another quote coming in tomorrow.

The work I want doing (not DIY/myself):

Dependent on whos quoting there is a hell of variation.

The work I want doing (not DIY/myself):

    Replace rear nearside brake caliper.
Replace PS pipes (I have the parts)
Oil change (I have filter, oil, washer plug.
Steering UJ joint (I have one).

Dependent on whos quoting there is a hell of variation.

The lowest cost for sorting out the brake calipers is to replace the seals and pistons yourself. But the rear calipers do require some special tools that can nudge that price to very similar to new/ exchange calipers.
That is what you have decided on, and I suggest rightly so, but I would suggest that you also consider replacing both sides.
Much contradictory "advice" on the www as to the pros and cons of replacing one or two, but, in the same way as brake pads and tyres are replaced in pairs, to maintain a balance I would seriously consider, replacing the two.

I'm sure he'd double his sales if he had an e-commerce website.

At least.
If his site was like gt4play or mr2ben life would be much easier
Perhaps he is more than busy enough and doesn't need the hassle.

MrT is not always the "bad guy", so we always check their price first and have been pleasantly surprised when OEM has been the same or less than elsewhere.

Earlier this year I had new discs and pads on my Avensis and MrT was a tad cheaper than the independent I use so MrT fitted them.
