Title: Header gaskets
Post by: Nvy on April 25, 2023, 05:47
So I decided to wait until I move house to turbo my two. So now I am looking for gaskets to bolt everything back together. Have toyo, topspeed catless pipe and oem muffler, any recommendations?

Tried but seems that I cant find them anywhere.

I believe OEM is the way to go.
Especially the head to toyo gasket.

Even more important are OEM crush rings for the other end of the manifold.  TCB will have them.

I have genuine Toyota & an Erling manifold gasket & they seem identical other than the 'rivet' holding the two layers together.

The problematic gasket is topspeed pipe to oem muffler. I think its a custom job or we can find them somewhere?

That's a composite doughnut on the stock exhaust, I would expect it's the same for your set-up as you are using a stock muffler.

Again, TCB will have them.

Not quite the same, it doesnt go into the muffler and its not with springs where the bolts are.

Then you might have to buy a sheet of composite gasket material and make one.  I've done it with good results.

I had the same issue with mine. The solution is to weld a small pipe to the end of the flange to hold in the doughnut gasket similar to the OEM. The gaskets that are provided with the down pipe are garbage and leak badly.
Even the one on the other side that connects to the header burns out and then leaks. The solution there was to use a specialized gasket called a Remflex.

Remflex?   Header to cat?  Can you post a link to what you used. (if we can get it here...?)

Sure. If you have to import it, its worth it. I tried other speciality gaskets and they blew out in time.
What makes this gasket unique is it is made of very high temp graphite which does not blow out and as the gasket crushes it seals any irregularities on the flange.
The important thing here is to follow directions and use it at the specified torque otherwise if you crush it flat it will be no good.

I bought the sheet and traced out the shape using the old gasket. I have been leak free for over four years.

No but you'll need a good supply of blades.  Work on an old plank of timber.

A cheap pair of tin snips would do the job surely.
