Title: Oil leak
Post by: M.Dub on July 26, 2023, 12:14
Looks like I have a bit of a weep / leak.

Big job to fix?

Noticed oil around the sump but looks like it's coming from above, replaced the O ring on the tensioner a while ago and it still looks good.

This a DIY job or not?

Was just giving the car a once over before booking a track day 🙄

Assuming the O ring is doing its job (if it's a Toyota one it might not be), then it's almost certainly the cam cover gasket.

Easy half-hour job.  Get a good quality replacement.

I'm happy to send you a better O ring courtesy of the club, just PM me your address.

Thank you I'll take you up on that 👍

The cam cover gasket looks dry ( see pic ).

I'll give it a quick clean and see if it's obvious where it's coming from.

Is there a gasket near where the exhaust manifold meets the block? Could it be weeping from there maybe?

Nothing else close to that area.

Could it be cylinder head? Really hope not 😬

Very very unlikely.  Send me your address and I'll get an O ring off to you.
