Title: Erm... dare i bring up the supercharger subject?
Post by: LeeUK on September 2, 2003, 18:38
Well here goes...  s:wink:  s:wink:  ... spoke to this very nice bloke from Nemesis in Colchester this afternoon about an Apexi Induction kit, which he told me would invalidate my warranty (he advised me on a blitz panel filter   s:? :? s:?  ).

He told me that they had an MR2 in the workshop at the moment, they're fitting a Power Enterprise Turbo to it.  They're just modding the flanges etc at the moment, and will later give me a price on a conversion.

Here's the Daddy tho!  They're also working on a Blitz Supercharger conversion, they recon they can modify the kit for the Celica to fit the MR2! Hurrah I say.... If it work that is!   s:roll:  s:roll:

They are at the moment working out the pipework for the conversion. They've got me on they're "Interested" list and will keep me posted.

Why are they modding flanges?? I've previously spoken with Blitz - basically it won't fit without 'rearranging' the firewall.

Will be interesting what they come up with, if it isn't the 'oh we abandoned it coz it's too tricky' blurb!

Exactly what I was thinking. I saw a supercharged Celica at JAE (IIRC it was Blitz) and thought it would be nice in a Roadster.....a supercharged Roadster....<homer style drool>hmmmmmmm</homer style drool>

However on closer inspection I noticed that it just wouldn't fit. Basically the engine in the 2 and the Celica face in the same direction (ie with the exhaust manifold pointing towards the rear of the car). In effect this means that the Celica engine is rotated 180 deg. In the Celica there is room in front of the engine to fit in a supercharger. Unfortunately, as Martin said, in the 2 we have the firewall in the way.

Quite simply, we just don't have the room.   s:cry:  s:cry:

I just reckon the constant drone from a super would put me right off the idea.

I know what he means though.  TBH I do notice the Merc SC drone a bit on a long journey (colleague has one) but I'd imagine it would be more noticable if it were six inches from your ear like it probably would be in a '2!

Hmm, I quite like the noise you get from some Superchargers. Admittedly, the 'charger on the Mini Copper S is the most dull, boring noise in the world. But some chargers make me thing of the noise the black car made in Mad Max when the charger spooled up with Nitrous! A good example S-type R sounds great when flying past at speed.

I'm with you on that Ender. Maybe cos I haven't lived with an SC for a little while, I don't know what they are like to live with. But the one on a friends XKR sounds pretty special and it really does give the sound of some serious power.......I like it!  s:twisted:  s:twisted:

The Blitz SC for the Celica apparently is not suitable for the UK 190 engine - s/o on the Celica club tried to have it fitted and had to give up.  It was only ever designed for the JDM 190, not the 140.

The SCs fitted to Celicas in the  UK afaik are 1 on a 140 and 1 on a 190 fitted by Japspeed (not Blitz, but bespoke instalations).

As Martin said, you'd be looking at having the SC in your lockers to fit it in the same way as the Celica conversions have been done!

Realistically, turbo is the only option, but... you could try port and polish???

Sounds like the Nemesis boys don't realise what they've taken on!  I currently have no modifications and i'm not sure what route to take, ie turbo or NA.

(Straying from the subject a fair ole' bit   s:roll:  s:roll:  )
I do like what i've read about the apexi induction kit, does it invalidate the car warranty if fitted?  If so can the stock filter go back on easily?  I've read the instructions and it seems that way.  Just asking because when i fitted a Pipercross to my mates escort, i had to cut the small tube feeding the air to the rocker cover to fit to the induction kit   s:? :? s:?  (Hope you know what i'm on about!)

Also has anyone had any problems after the fitment of the apexi kit?  Basically if it's safe i'll get one!  I want an excuse to buy one!   s:bounce: :bounce: s:bounce:
Where is the cheapest place to buy an apexi?

I'll keep you all posted on how much this turbo conversion will cost!

Sorry i strayed a bit, but i hope someone can help me!

Are you on about a turbo or supercharger.

A turbo will fit, a supercharger = no way.

Lots has been previously written about the Apexi intake; the Search (http://www.mr2roc.org/search.php) will help...

Having re-read this thread and with other information I've recently learnt regarding work performed on a Roadster there, I really don't think this Nemesis place knows anything about anything much. Certainly wouldn't trust them with my car...
