I'll ask him, he didn't seem that keen on forums for some reason. It wasn't around Northampton.

Apart from the LP kits, I wonder whether there are any other replica bodykits (excluding the likes of JDl etc that aren't a full change) for a similar price to this one.

Quote from: "Essex2Visuvesi"Is that one round Northampton way?
Theres a chap on another forum (TwoBrutal) who's building one

Lamcote, I don't suppose you'd like to share some contact details for him? I could do with talking to someone before I go cutting bids off of the kit.

Essex2Visuvesi, you're gonna be out of luck if you wanted to buy one of these kits. The company is selling the moulds on so I doubt very much if any more kits will be put together.

I had heard this, but I would think that whoever buys them will be looking to continue selling them

So things are moving really slowly on this due to decorating the house but I've ordered a few bits and pieces. Got my indicators and side repeaters through today. Rear lights and wiring is on order. This is our current state of affairs.

It looks like a car which is great! Decided to cut some holes out as I had a spare 20 minutes.

Knackered my hole cutter though (cheap crap).

One of my mates is coming round tomorrow to help remove the shell so that I can fit my hard top. Once the lid is on, I can set about cutting the roof section away from the main clam as I want the rear section to lift like a boot lid. Also, the doors need to come off so that I can fit the side skirts. They are the datum for the rest of the kit. I spent a couple of hours smoothing them down.

I'm not sure what to buy to cut up the shell. Am thinking a reciprocating saw rather than a jigsaw as I'll have better control. My brothers father in law is very kindly donating a compressor so I may end up going for air tools instead. Thoughts anyone?

I dont usually feel qualified to comment but in this case i will.
Recip saws arent the eaiest things in the world to control.
They can be a bit of an animal.
Jigsaw will give you much finner control.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

I would suggest a hand locksaw, it will give you much more control and a lot less dust.  Downside obviously is its a lot slower

The problem with a jigsaw is that most of the holes I'm cutting are already recessed so it's not gonna be like cutting a piece of wood. I was wondering about a hand saw like the one above but that won't be great for getting round corners. 1979Scotte, I was looking at one of these:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/361266694776
I thought it looks like something a bit more aimed at being easier to control than the big 240v jobbies.

At the end of the day, there's no instructions on how to do it so maybe I just need to try a few different things until I find the right tool.

Cabbydave, they also sound awesome  s:) :) s:)

If you have a compressor then I'd suggest on like this:-

I have one it can be a bit of a handful to cut neatly

Also it might be worth looking up 2 series from the Mark Evans is born series. The one where he builds the Cobra replica and also a Westfield
There are some good tips on manipulating fibreglass.

Never used that dewalt.
Once used a hitachi 10v which was so weak we ended up using a hacksaw.
I personally reccomend any makita 18v lxt range.
You may have to suck it and see.
Certainly the pictured dewalt is smaller than what i had in my mind.

The hard top is on! The kit appears to be quite a good fit. It's certainly gonna need some fettling but it's better than expected.

That is some back end!!

Essex2Visuvesi, your suggestion could well be the winner. Although I feel that I should buy myself a recip saw anyway just because I think my garage needs one   s:D :D s:D

Haven't got a fitting kit for the hard top so made up some brackets for the clamps on the sides. All they need to do is hold it all down tight... might work:

Got a little upset today thinking that nothing was gonna fit as well as it should so had to have a quiet word with myself. After pulling myself together I decided the best course of action would be to get the center of everything and line it all up as best as I could The original idea was that the side skirts were the datum and you lined everything up via them. They're supposed to be ready prefabd to fit. To me, something just didn't look right. It turns out I was panicking about nothing. After centering the bonnet and bumper, I fitted the side skirt and clamped it into place.

I know it's a little dark but you get the idea. The rear clam will need trimming before it sits right. It'll also need the roof section separating from the rear (not looking forward to that). Anyway, I congratulated myself by cutting out my first hole.

Again, sorry it's dark. It still needs filing and smoothing down. Used a padsaw for this one which took a while and wasn't easy on corners. Will try the jigsaw next. I'll keep trying different tools until I find one that works well.

Dont get down get it done!

Nice fine blade for the jigsaw on a slow speed would be what i would try.

That's the problem with working nights but not having much to do. Too much time to worry aboyt stuff!

s:) :) s:)  That's the plan. I've got a couple of blades to try and now that I've cut out that air vent, I've got something (albeit only a tiny piece) to test them on. To be honest, now that I've cut a hole and realised it'll all fit together, I just wanna crack on!

Set about cutting some more holes:

And a headlight:

Having only been back from my holiday for a few days and getting over a bit of food poisoning (thanks a lot hotel restaurant!) I can finally get on and play with the car again. Am just focusing on cutting holes at the moment so the headlights are cut and I did one of the ears. My rear lights are finally being delivered today so I can see about cutting holes for them too. The big day for separating the roof section will be coming on Monday or Tuesday.  Not looking forward to it but I'll at least have one of my mates next to me for a bit of moral support or just to laugh at me.

The best way I've found to cut the holes is using a cone drill to make loads of nice big hole and cut as close to the edge as I dare, then cut one hole to the next with a pad saw and file the lumps down. Bit long winded but I just don't feel that I've got enough control with a jigsaw.

Tadaa!

Like the cone bit idea would a multi tool be any good do you think?
