That roof looks perfect. I imagine the material is generally superior to Jack Smith's as well in terms of insulation, longevity etc.
Where did you get it and is it a brand new rear window?

:) I spoke to Raymond(jack smith) 2wks ago say what Bernie said.
He did not tell me what material he usees but when i mention stayfast or twillfast he said that would more than doule his price.
he laughts at pepole who keeps there cars in perfect condion and said i do roofs for people who have cheap cars and just keep replaceing in few years at my price.

HE is a helpfull man and i think that most pepole would be happy with his work.

like its been said you get what you pay for.

I would love to no who is the longest member on here who has had 1 and report back no what long trem thoughts are

I've got a fault appeared in my Jack Smith roof, had it fitted in Oct 2018; not sure if it's missing stitching that's caused it or something else. It's in the general weak point which is actually around where the hole in my OEM was near the crossbar as it's under a lot of tension and rubs on the bar. I've done just over 5k miles in that time, probably had the roof down maybe 20 times and it has been outside the rest of the time. My car only gets cleaned every fews months and it does stand for a long time, so it might be that it would've been fine had I had it garaged and well looked after, who knows.

As has been said, you get what you pay for and other than some stitching issues, there's nothing really I could fault and they're really good value for money.

It's still waterproof and I'm going to try some Stormsure on it to sort. If I was tight on cash I'd not hesitate to get another one.  Will likely get one from Monsoon like Bernie, which I was going to do a couple of years back, but developed a hole in my OEM and needed it sorted quickly.

Showoff :D

What's the charge on one of those?

I'm not in the market myself but I'd be interested to know the difference in cost. It looks flawlessly neat.

Mine was £891 fitted so as I say if you want a quick cheap fix the Swansea roof is VFM
I note you are reasonably near to me in Devon, the roof looks superb, where did you go to get it fitted?

Sorry just seen the earlier link to Monsoon

As you are in Devon you should check out Southwest Roadsters (Bridport). Nathan did an excellent job replacing my roof last year. He uses Haartz Twilfast (mohair) and charged £690. Like Jack in Swansea he uses a donor rear window, but the one he put in mine looks as good as new. He also cleans and oils the frame . Although it looks as though he is an mxengineinthewrongplace specialist from his website he has done a lot of MR2 hoods. I have no connection to him, but I can highly recommend his work.

Chilli Girl

Double the price of Jacks but certainly worth a visit when the time comes for a new roof. It all depends how much one wants to fork out really but from their website, they certainly look good.  Thanks for sharing.

I'm probably not the longest, but I've had mine 4 years.
Not sure what might go wrong with it other than I guess looking washed out or getting holes.

After 4 years, mine is showing no signs of either. It has been struggling with mildew, but then again, so would any nylon roof that's not been treated very well. As per the "What have you done..." thread, I gave it a good clean over the weekend with Renovo. It's looking much brighter and although there's still a patch you can just about see looking hard which I'll have another go at, it's looking as new!

Raymondo said that he expects them to last around 5 years. As above, I see little point in spending the best part of a grand on a top notch one on a £1500 car!
If, on the other hand, you have an absolutely mint, low-mileage one with thousands of pounds spent, I can understand. That's not my car :D

Mine is about four years old now. It's still in very good shape. It hasn't had the Renovo treatment yet, but I think it does need a proper deep clean.  I'll so that in the Spring.

It does spend half its life tucked away beneath the hard-top, so I'm expecting ten years out of it!!

Thanks for the recommendation, another guy in Plymouth had a hood fitted by him and was very pleased with it

I think it worth it though ;)
That soft top looks like a super-neat job around the rear window and the seams generally.
Do you know if its Robbins or Haartz?
Just had a look. It's Robbins

WOW suddenly the Sevenoaks guys (CarhoodWarehouse / Carhood.com) don't seem so bad.... they've gone up even morefrom the £800 I paid 2yrs ago - now are £925 incl fitting I had to contact them for a delivery quote, but decided to get them to fit it... I seem to recall they took about £200 off for collection (they REALLY don't like fitting MR2 Roadsters!) and then added on delivery, if you wanted it... I reckon they'll do a Robbins (Haartz Twilfast mohair) for ~£850 incl UK delivery.

Wasn't sure if I was clear I mean they collect car fit roof and deliver it back.

Was paid for via insurance so the cost wasn't so much an issue as how convenient the service was.

BahnStormer

ah, ok, CAR delivery+collection.... that would make more sense at that price!

:) I have  been to South West Roadster for a new mohair roof fitted all for £660.
Nathan was extremely helpfully to me for other reasons :)

he has done a very good job and using twillfast it definitely looks better than a Swansea job.

At this moment in time i believe this to be the 2nd cheapest fully fitted in the uk.

the Swansea job comes in at £330 which most people wil be happy with.

i did need to Get of Wales for run after lockdown so i got my roof from there.

Any one going to Swansea  to meet Raymond is a talkative fella and if i can i would be happy to meet up along the way.

Neat job.

Indeed.
I see a Toyota rear window was that @puma2 's original and they sewed it in on the day?
But more importantly, where's the pic with the hood down and is it earless?

unfortunately i was  not there when he did it but  from conversation the rear window and roof was prepared before he fits it.
as for roof down its a bit tight at the moment  but with time will fit without ears.
i will take some pictures when i take it out next

Best keep the hood up for now until it settles, hood down is only necessary when the wheels are turning.

garpat32

I was told to keep the roof up for the first week, then good to go.

Chilli Girl

I hadn't noticed Paul that your A-posts had been wrapped before?  Your hood looks very smart. ;D
