My K20 MR2 is running, but not yet finished. Literally, today was the first time ever I drove it out of the workshop and reversed it back in! Have to clean IACV as it has a hunting idle. Since starting the project I now have a family and another child on the way. How much do you think it would be worth when finished?

Brief spec:

Low mileage MR-S base (64k)
Stripped underside - epoxy, 2k paint then Upol Raptor.
Full weld-in cage which links to rear suspension (professionally tigged).
Yellowspeed coilovers.
Fully polybushed with blasted and epoxy/Raptor arms.
ABS removed with bias valve in place
All brakes blasted and rebuilt.
One seat (Cobra Monaco)
Race heater for windscreen.
Hardtop.
Lexan windows.
K20a2 conversion (had new chain before fitting) with extra mount recommended by Mitch Autoparts.
Custom-made exhaust system 4-1 with 3" collector, tigged in mild steel.
Facelift rear wheels (rear) prefacelift rear wheels (front)

From my POV its very hard to give a value. Sounds like a very interesting project and quite personal which means to me to be more difficult to move on.
It sounds like a trailered-track car rather than one you'd drive to a track day.
There may be someone who wants something like that spec for some sort of race series but I think you will be waiting for buyers.
Value is less than all the parts and hours you put in...

SuperArt

Sadly true.
R2 Automotive in tilbury the first garage in the UK to do the K20 Roadster conversion some years ago quoted me £6k for the same job to be done turnkey.

I would say a finished project will be less than that (not by much).

Good luck.

To be honest, I built it for the road as something to play with at weekends. If the original seals were installed it could be driven every day like any other MR2. Though it would be very loud as I removed all of the sound deadening :) S2000s are ridiculously expensive and this would be lighter and without any rust. All of the Japanese car market seems to have gone mental!

lukeydoo

Crikey, for £6k I'd certainly keep it!

ucb

So would I at 6k!!!
But I don't think thats miles away from where I thought it would be.
A standard S2000 is very sought-after in a way that MR2s just arent.
Most folks are after the idea of a high-performance 'racey' sports car without the actual compromises of a race car. A car without sound-deadening, one seat, no ABS and lexan windows is just making it harder to sell and live with, and do mundane things in

shnazzle

It's a funny one. The car itself is certainly worth more than 6k. The last few dedicated track cars for sale on here have been up for 5-figures and I suspect sold for not far under what they were put up for.
But... The target market is tiny.
It may actually be worth having a look at a place that houses more race-dedicated members.
...neutiquam erro.

Both @ChrisGB and @ayresyboy had 2gr swapped cars which was a £7k plus engine swap both struggled to sell them.
I sold my supercharged V6 for for half what I spent on it. Put it on piston heads for 10k and see if anyone is interested. Or try the FB groups.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

I'll keep it for a while I think as it's been a nut and bolt rebuild from a bare chassis and has at least £10k worth of sentimental value now. The only car I would replace it with when looking on the market is a VX220 Turbo and that would be £10k more and wouldn't have been rebuilt from the ground up with new parts like the MR2 has. When it's done, I'll post up some pictures 😅

Even 2ZZ swapped cars were not fetching very much over 1ZZ. The cars that seemed to retain more of their value are the ones that were FL and not modified.

Once you modify a car and want to sell it, it is better to return it to near stock and cash in on the modifications especially if they are rare.
There have been some people that would do an exchange deal when selling their mods for stock parts and they make out well but you need to put in the effort.

That seems like the answer to have

Buy a vx 2.2 NA and supercharge it.
Bloody wonderful car that was.
