Yes, lots of lidless drives will aid recovery.  That's a fact, it helped me! Good luck for a speedy recovery. :)
Ex owners of Chilli red facelift 52 reg called Chilli, silver 55 reg called Foxy and blue pfl W reg MR-S called Sapphire. Now 2 less!

Not been on here in a while, as I have been concentrating on my recovery.

Now I'm back, and she has just passed her MOT, so time for some TLC.  :D

Really enjoyed the write up also happy to hear you are recovering, shame you changed your spoiler as the other one looked great IMO. I think it was off an FTO.

Thanks

I've still got the engine cover with that spoiler attached.  I may put it back on one day.  ;)
It does look similar to the FTO one, so it could be.

Driving home from work recently, and the MR2 started to behave a bit weird.  Hesitating occasionally, especially when pulling away.  Then towards the end of my commute, she started to misfire and the engine warning light started to flash.

I leave my OBD2 wifi dongle connected permenatly, so I pulled over and connected to the VLINK wifi, and ran some diagnostics.
P0304 - misfire on cyclinder 4, detected and confirmed.  :(

So I did some quick diagnostics.

Cleared all codes.
Swapped coil pack with cylinder 1
Code P0304 returned.
Swapped plug with cylinder 1
Code P0304 returned.
Only 1 thing left that I have the ability to check, fuel injector.
It was starting to get dark now, so I decided to buy a new injector off ebay, rathe than swapping them around.

So this morning, I swapped over the injector.  I was surprised how easy it was, after doing a little bit of Youtube research, confidence levels were high.  30 mins later, and it was time to start her up.  Purring like a kitten.  While I had everything else apart, I also swapped in some new plugs I had been meaning to change for a while.

I seem to be single handedly trying every exhaust there is for the MR2, trying to find that elusive exhaust note that "lights my fire".
So far I have had:-

Lotus style twin centre exit - I never actually fitted this one, as I didn't like the quality
Cobra Quad - Good quality, fit not that great, and too loud
Ebay unbranded - Twin oval, quality average, good fit, still a bit too loud

I've decide to try out the Malian TTE sytle system.  The quality seems good.  I like the separate twin exhaust side pipes, make fitting a lot easier.  I am very impressed with the exhaust note.  A nice burble without being too loud.  So far, so good.

So after taking a look at replacing the front hubs, brake back plates, discs, pads and struts yesterday.  I decided that the hubs were going to be a step too far for me.  So I contacted a garage in Weston-super-Mare after a recommendation from a few people.  Rectors Way Garage.  Sent them a message on FB yesterday evening at 11.30pm, explaining what I wanted done.  They sent me a message within 10 mins, and after a brief conversation to confirm a few details, they said to bring it in today and they would fit it in.  Dropped her off at 9.30am, phone call at 16:30, all done, and they also repaired a split in my exhaust flexi, as they said they don't like to let a car leave without knowing it is all working.

Ricardo, the mechanic said the hubs were a pain to get off, but nothing a big hammer wouldn't shift, but he did say, he wouldn't like to tackle them on axel stands outside a house.

Very happy with the work they have done, and I've found a new good garage to use.

I was tempted to go 'RED', but I have a thing for black cars, so 'Black' it is.  8)  :)

I was wondering as red looks great on a black car!

The black material is however better quality than the red so thats a bonus.

Running on 17"s now, bought from Bcxbcx.  Toyo T1-R's all around.  215/40 R17 on the rear, and 205/40 R17 on the front.  I was a little concerned that they may be a little heavy, but I actually like the way they feel.  Wheels are in fair to good condition, but they will get a light refurb soon.  I'm thinking of keeping the rims in chrome/silver and painting the centres black.  ;D

Today was her appointment with Jack Smith in Swansea.  Thoroughly nice bloke.  2.5 hours later she's sporting her new weave.  Very pleased with the quality of the finished product.  Even my girlfriend, who is a professional seamstress and very fussy, said that it was good work and very clean and tight stitching.

So, my Dial overlays started to flicker on and off, and I cannot find any obvious loose connections, so I decided to remove them from both the main dials and the heater controls.  Easy enough, but I noticed that two of my OEM dash bulbs were not working.
As the OEM bulbs are a little dim anyway I got some upgraded 2.3w 286 bulbs from Amazon.  The OEM ones are 1.2w.

Very pleased with the brighter look.  This is on about 80% of fully bright.

MOT passed today.  Couple of advisories to sort out.  Rear brake pads and some minor rust on a rear suspension mounting point.  Will get the garage to show me where when I pick it up.

So, the rust on the rear suspension mounting is actually the offside rear quarter panel bubbling in the usual place.  I have already got a new panel to fit, just not got around to it yet.  Also the garage I use said with the mileage that I do, the rear pads will probably last until next year.  ;D

Have you a link to the ones you used Martin there seems to be a lot, thanks.

Here you go.  This is for a pack of 10, which is the correct number for a manual car.  I think you may need a couple more bulbs if you have got an SMT.
