I know its been asked before, but just thought I'd ask for current up to date recommendations for insurance.

:) best of luck there :)
as they get older they i have found they get harder to insure properly   due to me asking  for agreed value  :)

A-plan have been good quotes but i don't like marketstudy.
Green light if your happy with market value
A new for me this year was AIB Airsports ins bureau good quotes and i went with them then cancelled  as they would not post out to me as they said they would.

ended up with Chris knott paid £50 more than best quote but my agreed value went up by £1000.

you could do all the comparisons sites but find they don't like many mods but may be happy with some of them.

i take a mouth out to do as many quotes as i can but always want to no who is the underwriter 1st then want reasonably excise.

never the same enjoyment as for car shopping mind   8)  8)

Double check what sort of policy you're getting from a 'specialist' - I was not told and it was nowhere in the documentation that I was sold by Chris Knott did not accrue no claims. Saved a few quid the first year but cost me significantly more the next. I wasn't happy about being out of pocket when there was nothing I could have done or seen at the time to inform me otherwise, they just didn't want to hear.

Have had classic policies before and it's always been upfront and clear - and also significantly cheaper than a standard policy!

Mine isn't a shiny cherished car so the insurance is more for 3rd party and injury rather than damage to the car so just ended up paying less with esure this year and will shop around with no claims another year.

A lot depends on drivers age and car modifications.

I have classic car insurance with Lancaster.

Just done a quote with Churchill, unmodified PFL, 3000 miles annually, fully comp. including commuting.
£325!

Certainly cheaper with Lancaster for the same thing.

Chris Knott was even more than Churchill for me.

Mine isn't a shiny cherished car either, but I still want fully comp because of the other idiots.

BARNPOT2000

Just paid about £156 with ERS via Performance Direct via comparison site. Limited mileage 4K. Two mods suspension and exhaust. Full no claims and I'm 60 years old with other cars. Without mods I could have got about £135.

Yeah, just the gap between 'market value' and actual cost to replace for some people will drive them to the agreed valuation extra.

I find for us middle age farts companies like Churchill and Admiral do good prices for unmodified cars. The group 50 cars I have, both with Churchill also let me provide an insurance value number appreciating cars, full protected bonus 5k mileage all for just over £400.

Clearly if any of the cars are written off will see on the value but in the main they are fairly decent for processing claims.

My two cars are insured with/ via Churchill. I did get a quote from Admiral, such is the power of advertising, but they were not competitive for me.
I believe it's not only the cars that are assessed but also the driver's record, naturally. The drive's age , can't get more natural than that but I am approaching further consideration now in that respect.
Where you live is a big factor and whether the car is kept on or off the road.
So, we are likely to see some difference in the prices of Member's insurance irrespective of modifications, which are another thing for the bean counters to consider.
PS
The one Company that I would NOT recommend is Aviva from personal experience.

From my post above, My two cars are insured with/ via Churchill.
Remember that the likes of  Churchill, Admiral and Saga for example are Marketing companies, not Insurance companies. Whereas Chris Knott,  A-plan and others are  Broker's.

The Marketing companies have prior arrangement with an Insurance company and typically offer their special prices aimed at particular market sectors. ie Saga over 50's.
Axa is an insurance company that I have noticed in the small print of Marketing companies and this means that it is possible to get an Axa Insurance from more than one Marketing company, albeit sometimes at different price levels and slightly different benefits.
My understanding is that Axa do not deal directly with the customer.

On a side note:
I asked an insurer if my job affected the premium. As a bus driver, I was told that as I'm more likely to be tired at the end of the day, I'm more of a liability. Another insurer (many years ago) told me that a bus licence is on par with having passed an advanced driving test, therefore I'm a safer driver.

I do know that each insurer assesses you, your car, location, vocation, etc, differently to each other. What works for one driver doesn't necessarily work for another. They all seem to derive the premiums from the ether if you ask me.

Multicar policy with LV= at the moment.
530d (2016) 15k miles pa £250
XC60 10k miles pa   £215
MR2 5k miles pa    £165

For me and wife as named drivers on each

Cheers everyone, I'm currently with Admiral on a multicar policy, I just thought I'd ask around.

Dont think its worth putting my car on agreed value, as its not that low mileage, or concurs condition.

I've gone through all the comparison sites and the only quote cheaper that Admiral is through Performance Direct.

But of course, if I take one car out of the multicar policy the other will go up too.

I'll prob just stick with Admiral for this year and look again next year!

Annoyingly, after just moving house, my Skoda price went down, but the MR2 went up! - go figure!

I have used Aviva and others over the years. All insurance providers are much the same until things go wrong.
It is then I suggest that good and bad go their separate ways. Fortunately I have had little experience of dealing with claims with insurers but the one time I had a problem, a parking incident with my 6 month young daily when I was not in the car, I was with Aviva who were found wanting by myself and the Insurance Ombudsman.

I've had a few claims over the years with the worst experience from the claim point of view was in 2017 with Privilege. I made three separate complaints over a single claim to the Ombudsman all of which turned out in my favour though sadly with no compensation, however I did come away learning something, which was that if you complain too many times to the Ombudsman, it is possible that they will decline any future complaints ever from you irrespective of the outcome of previous complaints.
Anyone know who funds the Insurance Ombudsman?

Ombudsman Services is free to consumers. We are funded by the fee a company that is signed up to our scheme pays to have each complaint reviewed. This covers the cost of us handling the case. This has no bearing on our decisions.
