I can't justify our taxing and insuring two cars any longer.

At the end of the month, the Two is coming off the road until we get through this scary time.

this may be the only way forward for a lot of people especially in the future >:D
we can only have some input to own situation and that will vary at  times but more so when the cost of living is so bad.

health is more important than anything can buy

at least your 2 will be best kept 2 off road and still well looked after like it was on a  run every day. :)  :)

stay with us mind and keep your input comeing.

I really do feel your pain @Carolyn - if I'm truly honest, that was one of the reasons that Sapphire was sold on - I just couldn't justify two cars on the road and like you say life is becoming/got very expensive.  As @puma2 said, please stay in touch - Angela and I must come up and see you and David one of these weekends when convenient. xx
Ex owners of Chilli red facelift 52 reg called Chilli, silver 55 reg called Foxy and blue pfl W reg MR-S called Sapphire. Now 2 less!

The price of almost everything is wild at the moment.

If it's any comfort (I doubt it), I've been running mine on a similar basis for a few years to justify the running costs. SORN in October for winter tlc, and also because the roads are absolutely caked in grit/salt up here.

What's scary is there is not much left to trim away these days.

That's my plan too!
SORN in Nov and tax in May...

It certainly is difficult times for many folk right now and not going to improve for a few years imo

However, fook it, I've had a shite year personally, I'm keeping my cars and bikes on the road as long as poss, I'll be smoking less, drinking less, eating less, sat in a cold room with 3 jumpers on, but, I need some pleasures

fair point Rob we all got to find a bit of pleasure
in these tuff times. its all about what works for the individual :)

i would rather freeze to death than lose my 2  8)  8)

It's a shame but a sensible decision.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

At my age we have to take what pleasures we can while we can even if I can't afford it, I don't drink or smoke, time is against me.
Say it with love, say it with flowers but never, never, say it in writing.

Make that our life time.

Just about nothing of the price hikes has to do with réal shortage. It is all speculation and politics riding the wave. Why would those who orchestrate this stop doing that?!

On a side not but totally illustrating a main thing:
This morning had a very interesting exchange of info with archeologist friends about the discovery of an late viking period hunting/war dog which was found in receding ice up a Norse mountain pass.
The dog was part of more finds which were left/covered when the pass became in disuse because of the chilling climate at the time. The about two centuries before where warmer than today.
Also illustrated by the viking settlement in then gréénland and what they called wíneland; newfoundland (and mainland).
Could go on several pages of examples. The British Isles saw the Romans exploiting productive vineyards...

Meanwhile am told on the tele that we sháll drive an EV to save the planet and more tourists flying in than in 2019  :-X

Makes me véry sad to read that hard working people and those who worked hard all their lives cannot afford none too extreme joys while on a different thread the most ostentatious of vehicles abound.
Good luck to all.

Yes, we are having to give up our little indulgences that we were hoping to enjoy in our retirement.  We may well have to go back to work!

But:  We could be living in Eastern Ukraine, or under the heel of Putin or facing total social breakdown.

Could be worse.

Like the 20th century never hapened.

Could be worse yes. Still regress, not progress.

It is always sad to have to put the toys back in the toy box.

We have 2 MR2's and live in an area where they are stored for 3-4 months due to winter weather.  Very sad each winter to put them away, and exciting to get them out.

We don't drive them much, so the cost to drive them isn't much more than the cost to store them, and we still need some pleasures in life. I need to go on a diet anyway. ::)

Even so not sure the use of such a 4 letter word is acceptable!
