Are 5 and 6 speed boxes a direct swap?

My 6 speed box in my 2 has a noisy input shaft and getting worse so one day the time will come to replace it. Is swapping to a 5 spd a straight swap? Will my LSD swap over boxes?

As my car is purely for track use im thinking going for a 5 spd would suit better as ive read they're a smoother box.  Is this true?

And if all works out maybe i'll get super lucky and find a JDM box 😬

The 5 speed is definitely stronger and, many think, a bit slicker.

I can't see any reason why they won't just swap, but you'll need a five speed shifter to go with it (???).  I stand to be corrected on this.

Unless you're getting a JDM box with no LSD, all the Euro boxes have LSD.

Finding a JDM box with LSD is looking for hens' teeth, but one from a Euro box can be swapped in.

Reverse is in a different place.

Both shifters should interchange.  We are running a 5 speed shifter on a 6 speed. Apparently, the only difference is the 6 speed shifter has slightly more side to side clearance to get to reverse (left and front). Since the 5 speed reverse position is where the 6 speed 6th gear position would be (right and back), the 6 speed shifter should work fine.
