Thanks Dev. The use of ´Y´ for the USA market for a ´99 asks for a bit of flexibility for ´módel year´  but it does fit in with the logic.
Serial# fits too.

 The model year is 2K and that is all that matters not when it was manufactured or sold. New cars are generally sold in the fall, for instance 2010 model cars are offered for sale in September of the 2009. This is so they can clear out the inventory of the current model year along side the new ones at a lower price before they become considered a year older.

What I found about year is that it's the year that model was introduced. Hence why we all have a zero for 2000.

I've tried all those links @Petrus . Amayamas is vague just stating 02.0008- (does that mean facelift?).

One of them suggested mine is a 2005 Spyder. Nope. It's a 2002 PFL Roadster.

Mines JTDFR32070004xxxx

Note the xxxx are in place of the numbers on the vin.
