Welcome to the club.

Ok, so my reply is a little late, but I do around 500 miles a week in mine and as long as it's not raining the roof will be down! The leather is good, A/C a must (I wouldn't own a car without it) and I don't bother with the hardtop, but these are all personal prefrence.

Thanks again for all the replies, think I'm gonna go for a Chilli Red with A/C 2003 or later.  Did see a good deal (or so I thought) at car supermarket, Uk car 53 reg, AC+hard top in Silver, 11k miles, sat nav £10,999.  If it had been in red I would have been very tempted!  Expecting to do quite a few miles so a lowish miles <20k and 03 or later would be ideal (need a car less than 5 yrs old for work).

Gonna have a scan on Autotrader to see if there's anything new now!

It's been a while since I've posted, never ended up getting the mr2, long story, but kept borrowing the girlfriends car until I could make a decision, ended up getting a new job and was expecting to still be doing a 50 mile return trip commute everyday, so went for the sensible option and bought an 06 Focus Diesel Sport with 5k miles on! Started work then found I would be working at a different office, some 6 miles away - result! So thinking now of selling the Focus and finding a red mr2! No kids so lack of storage is not really an issue.  Still thinking about it, but watch this space  :-) :-) :-) ...what makes it worse I walk past an 02 Silver mr2 every day in the car park!

pah! - leather is hot in the summer and cold in the winter! - no use  s:P :P s:P

Aircon - pah! the roof folds down!

Dont be put of good cars just by thier lack of 'extras'  s;) ;) s;)

cant recommend them highly enough, economical, awesome on a country road - and i find, generally very practicle as well.

most of the time, although i tried moveing it during one belting of snow, it just spun in a circle as though someone had put a spike through the middle and pushed the front around it  s:? :? s:?

i just pushed it to the side of the road and called in sick

I use mine every day and also for the morning school run too! I like my extras (hard top, air con, heated seats, heated mirrors -*Plug* see group buy *end of plug*) but it's the fun factor round the bendy roads that has me hooked!

Heated Seats?! Had them in my TT Coupe, brill idea, even better in a roadster!

All sounds good, especially with all this nice weather we are promised! Work mileage should be about 60 miles a week so not too bad, so definitely somethink to think about....thanks for all the replies so far!

I use mine as an everyday car, I go to college 3 days a week, teach 2 days a week and work 4 nights a week I've done about 10,000 mile in the last 9 months.

There's 5 of us in my family complete with dog/cat and rabbit and I do the shopping at Tesco's in mine (not every week lol) I can fit a weeks shopping in my car providing nobody else is with me.  But we have also got a 4x4 to use as well so best of both worlds as most people have   s:D :D s:D

Went to go for leather seats but found out from previous experience that when the roof is off and the sun is blaring and you're wearing shorts or something like that it gets a bit too hot   s8) 8) s8)  . Haven't got a/c but then again with a convertible the roof goes down as soon as it looks like it might be sunny.  It's a 2 you've got to love it.

Mine is a daily driver 400 miles a week at the moment.

Have done 22k since I got her 18 months ago and save for needing a new wheel bearing (£130) no problems.

I get 37mpg on a motorway run (steady 80-85mph), which is better than a lot of family saloons and MPV's plus I get to unleash the inner devil at the weekends.

People without aircon, leather etc will always say it's not worth it - well they would as they went for a car without.
Pesonally I feel the interior is a little drab and plasticky -a leather interior, especially the facelift variety really helps lift it and adds to the sports car feel. Getting the chrome interior kit also helps.

Aircon - yeah you can put the roof down but when it gets really hot you can quite quickly get sun stroke (I did in France last year) - then you can't beat putting the roof up and chilling right down. It's also very useful for demisting and even with the roof down can provide a nice cooling breeze around the feet on those hot days.

Oh and heated seats - very useful for roof down driving on crisp winter/autumn days - mmmmmmm!  s:D :D s:D

Almost a year on and I'm still doing 5-600 miles a week, 95% twisty A-road stuff, car is fantastic, hasn't missed a beat yet. Does 40+ mpg with ease and comes with grinability.

Hmm, that Focus Diesel is getting closer to being put on Autotrader now I've got to say! Thanks for all the replies.  Would also complete the Toyota family, OH having a Yaris!

We run  the 2, a RAV4 T180 and a Yaris T-Sport between us, so apart from the the Lancia, we are totally Toyota'd at the moment!
What are you waiting for......

definitely good for everyday use... i just swapped from a Mk1 MX5, and now i don't need massage and koppo specialists after long runs

it's as comfy as a saloon, that just happens to be a roadster, and i'm no longer the '65 in the slow lane, having to plan overtakes in advance with a pencil and map' chap.

does anyone know what's under the plastic in the front 'boot'? looks like an after market opportunity for more storage..

You've still got all that crap in?! Never had to change a bulb on the car, have you?  s;) ;) s;)

There's all mechanical bits underneath, quite a bit of room but no more than what's available from the spare wheel holder anyway.

Another daily driver here, I commute from nr Burnley (another Lancashire member;   s8) 8) s8)  ) I commute to Leeds everyday, it would fast become a tedious task without the '2! I make a point of taking the most direct route, just so happens to be quiet country roads! From Denholme nr Bradford, through Oxenhope and over the top to Colne. Fantastic!

Whilst mine is a 2nd car (Focus first).... I do use it to commute to work (60mile round trip) at least once a week, plus often do the weekend shop in it.

If I didn't have such a big annual mileage (approx. 30K), and have to drive and park in London a fair bit (I like something anonomous for this), I would have no problem in using it as my only car.  We have no kids, so the space is not a problem.  The only time I would miss the  Focus would be:

1) When I have to take the parents out...
2) When there is lot of spray on a busy night time M25 (the Focus does feel more protective).

Provided you don't need to worry about the security, I would advise Aircon over a Hardtop....  it is great having the option of dropping the top anytime the mood takes you (crisp winter days are wonderful), but also (and I know some will disagree here) having the aircon means you don't have to fry  in the scorching mid-day summer sun... that is just not my scene.  I am often the only convertible with the top up during the day in August, then the only one with the top down come the cool night air!

Cheers.

Cheers!
