John - Now the initial spooking has worn off I'm continuing my search for an MR2!  I had my heart set on one before I read about the things I'm not even going to mention, so realistically there should be nothing stopping me now.

Actually, if I say precats very quietly then maybe this thread will show up in a search amongst all the others and perhaps reassure another punter who was as wary as I was!  May as well go for it, who dares and all that  s:D s:D

I think i was one of the last people to get stuffed by the evil pre cats, i only had the car a couple of weeks before it went.  s:evil: :evil: s:evil:  

With the help of everyone here , a second hand main cat and a big screw driver ( the main item required for pre cat removal  s:D s:D  ) i was soon back on the road, and so far it has not caused any damage.

I have limited mechanical Knowledge, but still found it fairly easy to do the job ( i even enjoyed doing it)

Like you said before, people would ony look for/post things about problems. hence, why it seems like it happens to every owner of a 2.

Drive one in the sun with the roof down, you'll soon get one.

Just get the pre cats ripped out, and you have nothing to worry about

Ohhhhhh yes. That could end up being the biggest and most expensive mistake especially out of warrenty  s:? :? s:?

Motors in Plymouth who told me they can replace the precat with a stainless pipe for £95.  I was a bit surprised   s:o s:o  as i had not read about it on any forum. Is this gen or should I be wary   s:roll: :roll: s:roll:

I reckon they are replacing the CAT, not the PRE-CAT. Another garage who doesn't really know what they are talking about.

Update: MrT at Plymouth not interested, reckon they got burned big time trying to help someone out who turned it back on them when it went wrong. Any suggestions on how I can get this done?   s:) s:)
