very true,

i got caught by an unmarked volvo on my way home.

my own fault for not paying attention.

and they were pretty good, they only gave me 3 points and £60 fine.

and i was doing 94 in a 70.    s:shock: :shock: s:shock:

lucky they hadn't seen me 5 miles back   s:roll: :roll: s:roll:

i drive slower now   s:wink: :wink: s:wink:

thats the point of going to europe guys, if its in the Uk I'll give it a miss, too much hassle with cops, traffic and chavs attracted to the cars when parked up.

sure it will be a blast anyway   s:) :) s:)   look forward to the reports

unfortunately most of the parking outside the casino is taken up by bentley's and the likes

great area to drive around in a soft top tho, palm trees either side of the road on the sea front at st tropez etc, really cool at night   s:) :) s:)

My 2p worth...

If you chose to go to France, chose rural location rather than big cities/towns..

Everything will be cheaper (food, accomodation) and you will be able to sleep at night because you car will be safer   s:wink: :wink: s:wink:

Scotland would be nice, especially the far north during the summer months, it wont get dark till late on, so you can drive in daylight for longer! We would need some sort of translator though!  s:lol: :lol: s:lol:

Not much of a hike for us tho Scotland is it, Andy. I cycled there this year its so close!

Here's one trek I dreamt up the other night.....

MR2 Midnight Sun Run

Stage 1. Ferry to Amsterdam, Holland

Stage 2. Amsterdam -> Hamburg -> Copenhagen 490 miles

Stage 3. Copenhagen -> Oslo 346 miles

Stage 4. Oslo > Steinkjer 405 miles

Stage 5. Steinkjer -> Narvik 486 miles

1727 miles total

Of course, you'd have to double this as you need to get back. Altho a ferry direct from Bergen to Newcastle might be the quickest way. You could add a further stage to the route and take the road right to the northern most point in Europe although I think you'd have to come back as there is nothing there. Road -> cliff -> Arctic Ocean. Of course with there being no night you could drive for longer should you want to do that.

For a shorter, more subdued first time event I also really really fancy visiting Pamplona during the week of 6th - 14th of July for the Running of the Bulls.

Anyone fancy that one?

I'll do pretty much anywhere for central/southern europe plus Scotland but not keen going to scandinavia as the prices take the mick to be honest.  5-8 days seems a good length of time and you could always have two groups - one faster one slower - to suit peoples style more.

This is the route the CTR owners club are doing -

Saturday 30th June 2007
Catch the ferry at Dover to either Calais or Boulogne then head through France stopping off at the old pit lanes at Riems. We then head south using the payage through the Champagne Ardenne to the capital of the Burgundy region Dijon, for an over night stay

Sunday 1st July 2007
Today the real driving begins. Leaving Dijon we head past Lyon then Grenoble, before taking the Route Napoleon N85 which takes us through the Verdon Gorge (One of the nicest places in France) we then head for a two night stay in Nice. Tonight is the night, for those who want, can have a heavy late night drinking session

Monday 2nd July 2007
Rest day to visit Monaco or just chill on the beach in Nice or St Tropez

Tuesday 3rd July 2007
We leave Nice refreshed and ready for the days driving. They will be more twisties and mountain passes than you could ever dream about. We head for Briancon before taking in the Mont Cenis pass then onto the Little St Bernard Pass before reaching our overnight destination of Aosta (famous ski resort) in the Italian Alps.

Wednesday 4th July 2007
We leave Aosta and hit a mountain pass straight away the Great St Bernard pass before reaching the famous Furka pass, from here we follow Le Route de grande Alps passing through some beautiful Swiss mountain villages heading back into Italy to do the Passo del Bernina then onto the daddy of all twisties the Stelvio pass. We then head through some long mountain tunnels to hear the Vtec sing before hitting the Austrian Tirol, passing through Austria we head for our final destination of the day to a German Bavarian mountain villiage Garmisch Partenkirchen but not before taking a photo opportunity at the W@NK mountain (no, really!) the highest mountain in Germany

Thursday 5th July 2007
We leave Garmisch Partenkirchen then head through Austria again past Innsbruck and head for Austria's highest mountain and pass Grossglocknerstrasse from here we travel through Austria into Bavaria taking twistie B roads before we reach the Autobahn and keep to the speed limit.
We travel through the German Autobahns all the way up to Koblenz (nice city near the Nurburgring) or a hotel nearer the ring.

Friday 6th July 2007
Today we spend a full day at the ring doing what we enjoy most then head back to Koblenz for a end of tour party.

Saturday 7th July 2007
After a long lay in we head back through Germany Belgium and France before catching our ferry back to the UK. Those who want to stay a little longer at the ring can and make their way back Sunday or Monday.

The total route is about 2200 miles it takes in fast autobahns, mountain passes, cols, Villages, Beaches, mountain villiages,holiday resorts ski resorts, racetracks, historical motorsport venue and 7 different countries

Furka pass - nice name   s:wink: :wink: s:wink:

Stelvio Pass - now I REALLY want to drive that!!!!!

Official - old git alert. 42 years old!
Facts  are meaningless - they can be used to prove anything.

2004 MR2 in silver with hardtop, leather, aircon and only 1 door handle.(11 happy years together and counting!)

Did the stelvio pass last year, it was an experience but it does get very busy. Some of the other passes in Italy, Switzerland & Austria were much more fun with very little traffic on them.

There was 6 of us and we did 3000 miles (IIRC) door to door in 8 days and that included 2 days not driving while we were at Le Mans for the race and 1 days rest in Chamonix where we went up Mont Blanc. There was a hell of a lot of driving with some 10 hour days which afterwards we all agreed was too long. We didn't pre book any accomodation but we didn't have any problems getting 3 twin rooms every night.

This year one of the options we're discussing is driving down to Andermatt in Switzerland  and using that as a base for 3 or 4 nights as there are some great passes in that area.
