am looking into spraying the inside of my lights body colour to match the car, and hopefully some headlight eybrows as well.

my car is blue, and i believe this is a metallic paint.

would i get away with doing this my self, have done some spray work before and i'm not to bad. but it will be an out of the can jobbie.

i have access to a small spray booth, and i know the prepwork is important to very fine grade wet and dry to get the smoothest finish etc.

i know i need a plastic primer first to make the paint adhere, and then undercoat, then build up lots of thin light coats, lightly sand in between.
after that i'm not sure if i need to laquer or not.

and then leave for a length of time. the head lights will be fine to fit after 24 hours as they are sheltered. the eyebrows i will leave in a warm place for at least a week, or can i bake them on a low heat in an oven.

so to sum up:

1 should i do this myself
2 if so any tips hints or directions
3 do i need to laquer it, iv heard metalic paint can be a git to use.
4 where is the best place to get decent 8m6 paint
5 any undercoat colour recommendation

Dev i know you do some of your own spraywork so advice from you would be greatly appreciated, i'v seen your work already and in the blue, so you are a man of experience! same goes for anyone else with spray experience etc.

cheers in advance

You can do it yourself, as long as you take care, and I'm sure you will.
Its a two coat application, so you will need a clear lacquer layer to finish.
Small parts shouldn't be too difficult. You may be able to get the paint from Mr T, or maybe one of the ebay guys. There is usually somebody on here who knows where to get the best paint in a can.

am spraying them in 8M6 lagoon blue.

my questions are:

the website above doesn't seem to specify car colours, and only seems to come in tins. i need aresols. so any ideas

i'm guessing 2 cans should be enough for 3-4 coats on headlight eyebrows and TTE rear inserts

2 cans will be plenty bud, around 12-1400 grade for between coats

also you can use the spray paint for stone chips, spray it into the cap, let it thicken/dry slightly and use a small artists brush, gives a much thinner coat than the horrible touch up brush kits that leave a 'hump'    s;) ;) s;)

as long as its fully covered then thats enough primer, you dont need to layer that, its only to get a good key for the main paint to take hold of

ultimately at this stage wet or dry will suffice, tho I do tend to go with wet

once you have the colour on then go wet not dry   s:) :) s:)

Acrylic should be fine as it mates happily with most paint finishes

might be worth spraying a bit of colour onto a scrap bit of something, let it dry and then give it a coat of the lacquer, nothing worse than when it all bubblew/wrinkles up due to a reaction.

just laquered the parts and left them,

have noticed that i didn't get my laquering quiet right, moved to quickly, and have got a slight orange peel effect.

 m http://www.mr2roc.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=14870 m

am going to let it harden off, i'm guessing this will require a light sanding with my 2000 grade and another coat of laquer.

or can i t-cut this effect out,

any suggestions.
