Don't have it in this car,  had it in the vectra of old though and it came in handy. When it's hot, like everyone, the roof is down  s:D :D s:D    Never had a problem in the winter months as people have previously mentioned.

When I purchased my 2 it wasn't advertised as having ac however luckily it did have it. I think it's nice to have the option of having the top up on really hot days especially if you realise you may have been out in the sun for too long at least you can limit the damage done. But then againg I have fair skin and burn easily (damn that fair skin).

It's also good if stuck in traffic on a hot day, simply pull the top up wack the ac on, at least you won't be getting burnt as well as being late.

Location: Noosa, Australia.

All Spyders have A/C here, - it's not even considered an option!

You literally couldn't drive the car in summer without A/C.

Compared with you guys we're in a slightly different situation though, - the top is always up in summer (during the day) and almost always down during the remainder of the year, even in the middle of winter.

Seems strange to hear someone having to put their hood up in summer because its just too hot; no worries of that over here  s:lol:  s:lol:

It's only for about 3 months of the year.

The rest of the time (like now for example) an open-top vehicle is wonderful. (It's late Autumn here at the moment, it's  7.30pm and the temperature is about 70F...)

(Incidentally, - this is my part of the world:   m http://www.sunshinecoast-australia.com/100204.php m )

A car like the Spyder certainly lets you make the most of this climate.  You really feel alive when you take it for a romp up into the mountains, through the rainforest or for a cruise to the beach.

I bought the Spyder for my daughter, but I've caught the bug and I'm looking around for one for myself...

Someone should have warned me!

Cheers,

Craig, wanna switch houses for those three months? I guarantee that you don't have to drive with the top up over here cause it's too hot!  s:lol:  s:lol:
Sure you can live without 500hp, but it\'s languishing.

Quote from: "nelix"One question, how silly does a soft top look on a gorgeous day with the top up?

I frequently wonder WTF people are thinking, driving along in any convertable on a sunny day with the top up. double if it's a 2 or the like.

I see what you mean, but personally I don't care what people think - if I have the top up on a hot day, and people think it looks silly then so be it.

As you might have guessed I am big fan of aircon, ESPECIALLY in softops which get hotter than tintops with the top up, and for me, I am really selective about the times when I want the top down...  when I see people blasting past lorries on the M25 in the rush hour with the top down just because it is hot and sunny, I wonder if they are really having fun or just conveying the image of "look at me, I am having fun"....

Don't get me wrong, I love driving with the top down on a balmy summer's evening on a quiet drive back from somewhere on the backroads or on a crisp winter's day with hat, gloves, scarf and heater on... but I find aircon really important in the summer when I am driving in the 'real world'.

Each to their own of course   s:wink:  s:wink:

Cheers.

I had a quote for my old car a few years back, an MX5 Mk2 from a specialist -- quoted about £1500 - this was in 2001 mind - didn't go ahead, but sometimes wish I had as would have kept the car (which was a minter) longer - replaced rather foolishly with air conditioned Golf Mk3 GTI - a.k.a. very very boring and loads of trouble - but that's another story!

Had a quote of £1400 for retro fit on my 04 through Toyota, tho they said they would only sub it out so it would be slightly cheaper to go direct...

well for the first time since i've had my 2, I was wondering if I should've got aircon - I was travelling back from Le Mans on the motorway, roof up due to needing storage but windows down to the muggy heat with them up.  the only problem was the wind noise got on my wick after a few hours!!
