225 tyres should have 7.5" to 9" rims, and 7" rims should have 215 tyres.

You shouldn't trust generic bibles, but find out what each manufacturer says about their tyres. Here's a list for Toyo T1-R:

Sure you can live without 500hp, but it\'s languishing.

Thanks Tem, makes sense now that you have come up with the TOYO data, whats actually written on the side of your tyres?

According to the TOYO numbering, I need 205/50 R15 89V RD (product code 245710) and 225/45 ZR16 93W RD (prod code 245860)

but, Camskills numbering is  205/50R15 89V XL and 225/45R16 93W XL, I assume (never assume!) that these are the same tyres.

thanks

I have never seen a tyre with the lettering "RD" on them, perhaps this is just for the purpose of the website. Reinforced tyres will either have "Extra Load" or "Reinforced" written on them with "XL" used qquite often too. The main thing to look for is the load index which is the numbers after the size....  225/45 ZR16 93W... as long as what you buy has the same load index then it will be the same tyre. Anything over a load index of 95 is an "extra load" or "reinforced" tyre.

The load index of 89 although not classed as extra load by some manufacturers is still higher than a standard load tyre which are normally 82. There is a huge number of variations accross all manufacturers and tyre sizes, one tyre manufacturer might recommend a reinforced tyre whilst another might not, but this will be because of the differences in structre between different brands, brand 1 could be naturally stronger than brand 2, so brand 2 might say that their reinforced tyres are recommended, whilst brand 1's normal tyre is recommended.

Well, been running the Toyos (225/45 & 205/50) for a couple of weeks now,  must admit they are feeling a lot better than the Bridgestones in the wet, and they look great.  Looking forward to trying them on track at Rockingham in a couple of weeks, kinda hoping its a wee bit damp so I dont wear them out!.  Thanks guys for all the input in making my decision
