How do I organise one of these then, or do i need to speak to t' committee?

Just do it yourself, no need to involve the committee. Speak to whoever you need to speak to to get a decent price, then offer it up on here.

I just went ahead and contacted a supplier that was selling the parts that a few of us were interested in, posted up the details, waited a week or so to get people signed up then sent the order and closed the group buy.

It went very well, better than I could have imagined.

What is it you are intending setting up a group buy for?

Maybe make a GI thread first to get numbers then contact some people and post for a group buy? Or I think some people if contacted end up giving discount on 5/10 orders etc. and just post that into a GB.
