What do you think of these...

I think they are stunning, and at £468, including VAT, for a set of 4 in 16" x 7" they look to be good value too.

I can't afford new wheels just yet but I will be able to soon.  I will have to contact Momo and find out the weight of these, to compare to the weight of the stock wheels...

Im not sure... if they were the same design without the grey bits in the middle then maybe.... That aint a bad price though - who was that from?

core,

I think these are the same wheel Topless has in 17.

If I remember correctly they look really good. Now for the depressing bit. Momo are some of the heaviest wheels you can get. the 17"come in at about 28lbs per wheel.

That's a real shame, FYO anyone who cares the stock pre '03 wheels weigh in at 14.6lbs (front) and 15.2 lbs (rear) excluding the weight of the tyres (which incidentally vary quite a lot from one manufacturer to another, and, possibly surprisingly, are usually heavier than the wheels themselves for small wheels like ours).

If I were to get new wheels I would definately go for 16" rather than 17" so as to keep the (negative) impact on handling to a minimum.

what do you mean by that?

Difficult to explain (I'm sure someone else can do a better job than I) but there are various bad effect on handling from having larger wheels.

Larger wheels are heavier, therefore impacting accelleration due to greater inertia to get turning as well as adding to the overall weight of the car (the first point if more important, especially on a car like ours that has little low down torque).

A larger wheel will also require a lower profile tyre to give the same rolling radius.  Lower profile tyres will have a far stiffer sidewall.  This will give a far tougher ride, especially in a car like ours as, like with many Japanese manufatureres, Toyota still factor side wall flex as a componenet of the suspension set up.

There is more but those are my two main concerns, anyone else care to add to that or explain my points a bit better?...

oh i see.... bugger... this is all getting too much... think they will trade my broken 2 for my old escort!?!?   s:shock:  s:shock:

I think they look great.  I tend to like 5 (or 7) spoke wheels that are relatively simply, and easy to clean.

But, do they do them with 4 wheel nuts as well?
Blue SMT with leather, A/C and TTE Twin.

Apparently so.  http://www.performancealloys.com only show you alloys that will fit your car.

And on a purely aesthetic reason, if you can get them I'd go 16" up front and 17" on the back. They will look better balance, for the same reason Toyota went for 15 up front and 16 on the rear for the 03.

There is more but those are my two main concerns, anyone else care to add to that or explain my points a bit better?...

While all this is true;

Toyota chose the OEM RE040 and Yoko partially because of the stiff sidewall. for 50/55 profile they are very (hence why stufflike F1's and Venturas need higher pressures to stop the tyre rolling over on the wheel)

Your right though less flex will mean a harder ride. However if you pick the right wheel and chronos are near as good as you'll get from non silly money, then weigth won't hurt too much, and the 16" rear on the 03 is a lot closer to this than the 15" on the pre-03.

One last thing to rmember Kris, is that stock wheels are forged hence why they are so bloody expensive. Most cheap(ish) wheels likethe chrono are cast. Should you repeat your kirb smacking incident with these on the wheel would probably shatter rather than bend.

SHATTER!   s:shock:  s:shock:  Surely that is worse aint it...? but then again, they would be cheap to replace (compared to standard wheels).

yep there is that, forged are usually lighter per given strength than cast which is why forged are stock.

However don't expect a pile of dust when i say shatter, more like a broken wheel in pieces that you won't be able to drive on.

A mate of mine had an 'incident' a few years back in his 306 and one of his alloys snapped clean in half.  I've never seen anything like it!

Well I like the look of those wheels & I love my Momo Evo Racers even if they are a litttle heavier.     s:D :D s:D
