I'm considering buying an MR2 but would dearly like to take myself and the wife away sometimes for a weekend in it. Would a VERY small (52cm x 35cm) suitcase fit into the storgae locker behind the seats in a new MR2?

We live in Bromsgrove. Has anyone had any dealings with the new Toyota dealership there? We didn't think the old one was much cop so we ended up buying my wife's RAV4 from the one in Worcester?

Finally, about how much discount do you think Toyota dealers can play with? We ended up getting ~10% on our RAV4 as it was the end of a month and raining! Was this a fluke? Any suggestions

Cheers - hope none of this has been posted B4.

The thing with the storage bins are they are a funny shape and slant backwards, you may get it in, but might be better taking the spare wheel out and putting it in the front of the car... the alternative is to get something like this:

I got these from Germany (they dont sell them over here).

Auto Express (or one of the other magazines) say you should start negotiations at £15,900ish (standard spec) and go from there... if they wont match that price then auto express give you a phone number of a place that will... remember, they need your business, not the other way around!   s:D :D s:D

Hope that helps

Myself and Kerstie went away for a 2 night weekend when we first got the car (before we got the bags pictured).  We managed to get quite a lot in.  You do have some room in the front bin too, and you can fit quite a lot behind the seats if you move them forward a bit.

This is the problem more clearly defined. Whilst the suitcase may well actually fit in the bins, the doors won't close!

However, everyone here will tell you that storage space IS NOT a problem. In reality it is no worse than the MX5.

My wife and I have easily managed to pack the car for weekends away. A solution I use (though some here may disagree) is to hoik the spare and put in a couple of cans of Tyre Weld instead. Frees up ALOT of useable storage. If I was ever to take the car abroad however, I'd put the spare back in for peace of mind.

The bags pictured above by Kris are brilliant – one of the first things I purchased for the car. You can pack 'em 'till busting in the house and KNOW that they are gonna fit when you get to the car as they are bespoke.

Then you throw shoes, coats, and other bits under the bonnet. NOT a problem.

Victor in Germany has done group buys for the bags in the past. I'm not sure if he's doing them anymore though. Another avenue is to ask in the sales forum to see if anyone is selling any bags.

ALSO....as well as the bags, if the roof is up you get a huge amount of space on the parcel shelf for lying coats etc on...so its actually got masses of space for stuff.

Get the 2 you will not be disapointed.

Has anyone got the Toyota MR2 bag? If so what do you think of it? Is it triangular in order to fit in the cubby hole?

I have - dont bother... its a very nice leather bag and is made very well, but its not worth what they charge for it (i got mine thrown in with the deal when i got the car). Its just a normal hold all, not shaped or anything... will send you a photo if you want to see it. Oh, and the only bit that says anything like MR2 on it is on a little tag that hangs from the side!   s:shock:  s:shock:

Martinha,

My wife bought 2 holdalls from Bacons, the shoe shop,  for £5 or £6 each. The MrT leather ones are about £110  s:!: :!: s:!:    s:!: :!: s:!:  What a rip-off  s:!: :!: s:!:    s:!: :!: s:!:

Westlands, Bromsgrove, is also my local dealer.  Not impressed ('nuff said).

I have the leather holdalls.  They're good enough.  1 of them will take a weeks kit for me alone, or enough for a weekend for me & the missus.  They are well made, but expensive.

I've hardly ever used the hood storage in the two years I've had the car.

We spent a couple of weeks driving around Europe in May in our MR2, from Munich, to Valencia and back via Toledo and Madrid. We had no luggage problems, infact we had a lot of space. We removed the spare and got a pump and go set when we got the car, and we have a smallish Samsonite case that fits in the front bin (its one of the aircraft hand luggage sizes) as well as the 3 bag set. We have a luggage rack (mobile BBQ option) but didnt use it.

As for a possible group bag buy, after the last one I said I wont do another and that hasnt changed, but I *may* buy the odd set from time to time and sell them on on a first come first served basis. The best way would be to add your name into a WTB BAGS thread in the forsale/WTB forum.

Otherwise if someone in the UK wants to organise a group buy, send me the funds and I post the bags direct to them to distribute, that would be an option. Similar to what we did lat year with uhmm was is Phil, Ive forgotten   s:oops:  s:oops:

Goping back to the question of discounts, what did everyone here pay? I managed to get Mr T at the last weekend of the quarter, so I think I scored a pretty good deal.

I got the car, mats, free servicing, metallic paint (!), and leather for 16.5k. Is that about right? I don't know whether that was goodor not. The other thing was that I didn't care about colour. I just said I didn't want red! I've had three red cars so far, and managed to wreck them all in one way or another.

I think I paid way over the odds:

2002 model, 12K miles on the clock.  Black leather and a hardtop, 16.5K.

That said, I'm very very happy with the car, and so am not really bothered.  Will try harder next time I promise.

With the hardtop, AC, and leather seats, the car would have been a lot more new than a standard stock car.  So it probably wasnt too much over the odds?

Who cares, you have a 2... how cool is that!

Ha! Me and you both matey!! Three red cars and each has either had an accident (well, I have  s:oops:  s:oops:  ) or they have been nothing but an absolutte mechanical nightmare. No WAY would I ever buy another red car!!!

I think it looks nice though.   s:roll:  s:roll:

Geez, I like red too. But:

1) Escort 1.4L - Fell apart. Still, it was my first car! Just refeused to start one day and that was it!
2) Civic 1.4 GL - Well, broke the cam belt, blew the rad, drove into the back of someone, got in the way of someone on a roundabout, got reversed into whilst stationary, and then finally one day just blew the starter motor.
3) Megane Coupe 2.0 - Interesting car - span it at midnight in the rain! Had to sell due to my wife losing her job (I always liked her car better anyway!) - however, when I sold it the git refused to send the V5 to the DVLA. I now get a speeding ticket a month telling me to pay up for the car!

Anyway, since I gave up on red cars (2 years ago) I've been accident and mechanical problem free. Never had any problems in non red cars. Thank god my baby is in blue  :-) :-) :-)

Christ sounds pretty similar to me!!!

1) Renault 21 (Yeah, I know.....  s:roll:  s:roll:   Great stereo though!). Looking at a a particularly fine lady walking down the street in the summer and foot slipped off the brake pedal and into the back of an old Mk1 Cavalier! Took the front end completely off and pushed the Cav into the car in front. Also had to replace the passenger rear door after the underground car park where I work had some particularly tight bollards to go round. Myself and about 5 other cars in the space of a week all did some seriously major body damage as the cars wouldn't fit!

2) Mk1 MR2. Had the car 4 weeks and the big end blew! EVENTUALLY got that fixed only for the oil cooler pipes to burst and then spray the oil all over the motorway at 11.00pm! Knackered engine again. Got that repaired and then about 6 months later and new shocks and brakes later too, spun it at an island going about 25mph in the rain and hit the roadside barrier. Took the front right off and the car was a write off.

3) Lancia Gamma. Technically, not my car. Was my Dads, but I drove it LOT (you would know why if you drove it. WHAT an engine!!! Cracking, if large, car too. And VERY rare.....). Pulling a caravan (don't ask.......), engine started to overheat.  Engine was a flat 4 and both cylinder head gaskets went, causing VERY expensive damage when we found out the engine was a race derivative, hence the prices for the parts were pretty much double what we would normally pay. Shame, cos I loved that car.

Since then, no red cars, no accidents and no mechanical damage. I am not a superstitious person, but red is a no-no for me from now on!!!

Send the DVLA a statement saying you sold the car and the new owners name and address. State he hasnt sent the V5. You sent your part right?
