Clean MOT.

Gonna wait until Tuesday to tax her though.

@Joesson yes, Matt is back in business. 👍

Pleased to hear about the pass and Matt. I taxed my 2 for the beginning of May as was planning to go away in it, but the weather forecast and the actual weather meant I should have waited until June, better weather now forecast.

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

So Matt had a look at Banana today and discovered this. 😟😟

Never seen this happen before, let alone 2 of them at the same time. 😟🤦🏻‍♂️

Many years ago I broke one on a Morris Minor that was stranded with a flat tyre. It broke while I was undoing it for the guy as he was not very able. It broke with me on the end of a standard wrench so all I could think was that it had been overtightened with an air gun. Maybe that is what has happened with Banana x2 ?

Could of been nasty, very unlucky to have two break

:'( got there just in time by the look of it.
nasty

I agree with the above comments - very unlucky to have 2 break, could have been very nasty. Hopefully all on the mend now?

Just so mate. Very fortunate I stopped driving when I heard the first clunk.

It started out as a small front creaky noise. Noise stopped when the drivetrain was either loaded up or just off the power or brakes applied.
Only happened in a state when no load was seen. Very peculiar. First thought was something to do with the braking system.
Very weird set of symptoms.

Yup, all fixed and safe once more. 👍👍

Just need to get the 17's off and refurbed. I reckon they have been on there for about 8 years now, maybe longer. Will have had Banana 10 years next year.

I may be wrong but is part of the reason they snapped is because they're Toyota bolts on aftermarket alloys, which generally need chamfered bolts?
...neutiquam erro.

I hadnt noticed that but good spot. I would say that you definitely need tapered nuts on all those wheels immediately!

PS I cannot believe the prices of these guys (but note, they only strip and powdercoat and dont do any repairs).

That seems a good price, I paid £260 in 2011 for what they are now asking £180, at a company within a mile of their location.

These wheels do not use stock nuts. They have a chamfer on them. 👍
One of the reasons being that the pockets for the nuts are quite narrow, so the stock nuts have no chance of fitting.

I am relieved to hear that!

The locking nut does look like the oem one doesnt it?

For your sanity, it is also an aftermarket solution. 😂

Had me fooled. Look very Toyota-esque

Bittersweet post for Banana today.

She has been at Rogue for the last couple of weeks. Primarily to get her through the MOT, but also for some care and attention.
She had a rumble which felt like it was coming from the front. The sound disappeared under light cornering. Turns out to be a front wheel bearing. Had the opposite side changed about 50K miles ago.

During the pre-inspection, she also had a broken spring. Which is really surprising. She had a complete suspension overhaul on KYB shock and springs 38K miles ago (2017). Decided against another KYB spring as the other rear one was looking significantly corroded. Opted for some Tein springs as lots of folk on here run them with issues. Looking forward to seeing how she looks on the newly refurb'd 17's  ;D  ;D

Wasn't feeling too bad about that. Felt like I was heading towards another happy year of motoring.
Matt (Rogue) advised that the underside was not looking great and that a fix might be needed to get through the MOT. There was a spot about the size of a 10p near the sill in the floor.
When they started digging the 10p size hole grew into a hand sized hole.  :-\
Then they took some video looking down the inside of the structure.  :'(

I'll see if I can post both.
Not sure what to do now.

Oh this is sad to see.
Salvageable? Perhaps have some fresh sheet metal welded in.
These cars are at an age now where the low values make it difficult to justify restoration, they're just so disposable.
Those of us who can hang on to these cars and spend what needs spending to keep them on the road will only face another problem down the road, increase in parts prices as more parts become discontinued.

Gutted for you.

Deffo is going to need some investment. It's the size of the number that I don't know ATM.
A patch has been installed for now.

My concern is that she essentially is going to need a new floor pan and sills, which would just be uneconomical. Which makes me super sad. 😟

Hopefully they can quote you happy for the "hole" but would advise getting that done within budget before paying out for the teins just in case.
Fingers crossed everything comes together.
