The important thing is you!

Did the airbag deploy?

I'd get yourself checked over for chest damage from seat belt / air bag. I had a cracked sternum but didn't notice it until I tried to cough!
Ex.MR2 SMT sadly missed.

Glad to hear you're okay first-hand.

Airbags are designed to only go off when they're going to be needed as they can do more harm than good otherwise, by all accounts they're not as soft and pillowy as expected. It looks like most of the damage is to the rear of the car, so if there was no real frontal impact (looks like the damaged to the front could be from glancing off things in a spin?) they may well have behaved correctly.

Edit: Here's a good article describing airbag deployment. It suggests it takes a 14mph+ impact into a solid concrete block, which they reckon is roughly equivalent to 28mph square on into a parked car, which is quite a shunt.  m http://www.theairbagblog.com/how-airbag ... ent-wrong/ m

Paul you must be one lucky person , glad you got out safely, but what a B----Y MESS.This year seems a bad year for MR2's lot of dammage and write off's.Car's are replaceable, but people arn't, IF the insurance coy do the right thing the best thing to do in my eye's isto take a large step back take a good look at what's been learnt from this and get on with the next build.
