Quote from: "redcarblackhorse"I just fitted a Che exhaust that I got from E bay
 m http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Toyota-MR2-Sp ... 5ae70a84c3 m

This is from Top Speed Perfromance comapny. Shipping was £103. So much cheaper than than getting something here in the UK.
The chap I delt with (Will) sent me this link to show fitting (as it does not come with instructions or fitting bolts).
 m http://www.spyderchat.com/forums/showth ... %20install m

Needed a little tweaking to the CAT exhaust rubber but otherwise no issues. Really does sound sporty:-) and looks different. High end revs feel more free too.

Did you have the same issues as the guy in that fitting thread? Seemed not to line up well at the jining flange for him, and it rubbed on the cat. Did you have to work around these issues? Also I wondered if it is likely to rub or melt some of the bumber above the tailpipes?
Does it drone much? Many pops or bangs etc? Get pics and vids up!

No - i got the flange to line up ok. As no nuts or bolts came with it I had to get 2 new nuts and I used the standard Toyota bolts but as the flange on the Che is a lot thicker than the sheet metal one on the stock exhaust I had to shorten the springs. Once all was in place I then losened and realigned the seating and retightened. With regard to rubbing on the CAT, you are meant to remove the heat shielding. The top of mine was well rusted as was easy to remove. The shielding on the bottom barely touches so I left it in place.

What I did leave off was the mounting bracket that was supplied. I felt that this was going to limit the flex that is needed in the exhaust system. Again I think this helped with my alignement. I did however change the rubber support that is used from the CAT to the car body, this was pulling the exhaust too high (into the plastic bumper), so I used a jubliee clip to give me 1/2 inch extra. This allowed the exhaust to sit with clearance to the plastic bumper so not it does not touch or melt. To be on the safe side I put some heat shielding tape on the bumper (not visible unless you look for it).
Does it drone - no, on low revs it sound very throaty. On even revs e.g. when driving 60 or 70 mph it is only slighty louder than the stock. On the higher revs it really does rasp.  s:D :D s:D   also is does pop and bang  s:D :D s:D   I love it but then I never drive with the roof up   s:) :) s:)

I had to pay £23 import duty on top of the £103 shipping but then the guys sorted the invoice  s8) 8) s8)

Have taken pictures but dont know how to uplaod them on here  s:cry:  s:cry:

So it was about £300 all in? Not bad value I suppose. Good pics, I think it looks good. Are you happy with how the two exits lining up, seen one pic where they were v uneven on a different car.

Hi Chris,
Yes just over £300. Make sure when whoever orders from the guys to mention the club and also ask what they can do on the import invoice  s:wink:  s:wink:
Yes - I am happy with the alignment. I was worried about it before hand as I too had read about bad aligment. As the CAT exhaust rubber is biasd to one side this will always work against non stock boxes!

Cheers.

Hi Chris,
Yes exhaust is bedding in nicely. Sound has settled down a bit. Still throaty in low rev acceleration, raspy in high revs, comfortable on motorway and some lovely pops and bangs. Driving through train bridges and motorway underpasses are fun  s:D :D s:D
After a few hundred miles, I checked to see if the join from the CAT to the Box was still sealing ok. I found it to have a very small leak so I have now done what the guy on spyderchat did. I went and bought some longer bolts and fitted back the original lenght springs. Link below shows the new bolts and spings in place. On idle and reving to 3k this seems to have stopped it. I will need a few hundred miles again to see how it beds in. Hopefully thats it, if not then a new gasket at the joint (propoally should of done this anyway)!

Glad its going well. Would you say it has a very noticeable aftermarket sound to it, ie do people hear you before they see you even if you are just trundling along? I know its difficult with sound as its so subjective.

Yes it is def an aftermarket sound but in a good way. I would say its not obscene like some of the Mongoose's fitted to Saxo's   s:shock:  s:shock:   but if you are looking for subtle throaty (which I guess what a Remus would be)then this is not the one for you. I had a Magnex fitted to a hatchback and that just boomed - I had to remove it - this is not like that.  I have had a few smiles as I have driven by and even a window wound down at the lights to hear me pull away! My wife says she def knows when I start it and pull out of the garage! My mate (fellow petrol head) also said that it is throatier than he was expecting.
As you say it is subjective - hope that helps?  s:D :D s:D

Hi Chris

Took a vid today - 0 to 60 using full revs in 1st and 2nd and then staying at 60 in 5th. Hopefully gives you a good idea of sound.
Gave a mate a lift today and he said it was loud!
So thoughts on what you  think on vid - any help?
 m http://www.flickr.com/photos/86887000@N ... hotostream m

Checked the join again on the CAT to box and there was a little bit of moisture so think its new gasket time.

Just noticed there is a fine layer of fibre like material around the exhaust bay - I assume this is the fibre from the wadding in the silencer. Has anyone else noticed this before after fitting a new exhaust? Is it due to bedding in and any loose fibres from the manufacturing process getting blown out?

Had mail back from the Top Speed Auto crewe and they said that this fibre shedding is normal and will reduce as box runs in.
Also the Mrs took the MR-S out for a spin and came back saying the exhaust was loud but it not too loud - said she had great fun and it brough out the secret petrol head in her;-) so yes sound is very subjective!
