Quote from: "cstevens"I have an idea.

The police should have an incentive for members of the public to watch and report for scum bags.  Its normally quite easy, its the t*ssers with no current tax.  There is 3 of em down my estate as it is (thats what happens when you mix affordable housing with nice people (I am the latter).

Fact of the matter is the Police generally don't give a monkeys.  There are a  few scums where I live that have no tax, MOT, etc, and I'm damn sure they don't have insurance. They don't even have working lights. Trouble is why should the Police get off their backsides, when they'd prefer to let revenue roll in from their camera's.  I've been and told them twice already. I won't be going again.  If they run in me though, they can lock me up, because i'll lay the smack down on them.

Martin Luther King, Jr.:
True peace is not merely the absence of tension: it is the presence of justice

There is no justice in this country anymore.

Sorry to hear about your car Funky, at the end of the day I don't see wha tmore you could have done.  You would probably have got locked up if you had attempted to stop him

How do I report an unlicensed vehicle?

If you wish to report a vehicle that appears to be unlicensed, the details should be sent in writing to your nearest DVLA Local Office. This may be done anonymously.

The details must include:

the registration mark;
location of the vehicle;
the make/model, colour;
wherever possible, please provide:
the time it can be seen on the public road;
name and address of the owner;

The information provided can then be used for further investigations by an Inquiry Officer who will make a formal sighting of the vehicle and complete a witness statement.

You may also send the details by e-mail at  e http://www.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles/vehlicnc.htm#i9 m

Then read the bit above (http://www.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles/vehlicnc.htm#i8)

Watch their face a first they get a huge fine, then their car gets clamped, then taken away, then crushed   s:twisted: :twisted: s:twisted:    s:twisted: :twisted: s:twisted:  Now that's a fun incentive.

Gutted for you. Don't know why they dont introduce an insurance disc or a combined roadtax/insurance disc. Would help spot these scroats a lot easier. Also agree with Craig, how about a small reward for every scroat you report. Millions of eyes looking for the few that spoil everyone elses lives.

All I can say is I feel for you mate...   People like this really p*ss me off   s:x :x s:x     Problem is, I seem to see more and more of them    s:( :( s:(

In the newspaper, over a period of three days, all happened in my neighbourhood (quite small provincial town):
   *automatic 24H shop smashed and robbed
   *Volvo S40 stolen from driveway
   *vandalism to 8 cars parked in the same street
See what I mean?   More and more sc*mbags     s:evil: :evil: s:evil:
Praying it doesn't happen to me again...     s:? :? s:?    (see "vandalised soft top)

PS.  Did his plate happen to say " TO55ER "?     s:wink: :wink: s:wink:

In all seriousness, I hope you DON'T have to pay for this, I really do

Though in principle this is a good idea, the problem is that insurance is on a driver basis - not on a car-basis (unlike road tax).   s:? :? s:?

Do it like they do here.

The car is registered, and its the responsibility of the last registered owner. When a car changes owner, the car is de-registered and then re-registered in the new name. The owner get sent by mail a tax demand every year. If its not paid, the tax office puts it to a debt collecter and you get points on your license. If you still dont pay, they come and take the car away. If you still dont pay up (with a large fine and storeage charges as well by this time) the car gets sold to pay the debt. If there is anything left from the sale, you get the balance back (provided you have no other outstanding tax debts. If the sale does not cover the debt, the  debt collecteor is tasked with getting the balance from you, and they can take anything you own to cover the costs.

It tends to work.

In Australia the "Rego" (aka Road Tax) also includes 3rd party insurance for any driver of the vehicle - great when I go on holiday down-under as I can borrow a friends car and drive it without having to worry about anything (the car is only worth about £300 so not worth insuring fully comp)

Tax and 3rd Party Insurance are included in the fuel in South Africa, seems a sensible way to do it to me.

FM can you let me know the name of the company in Hertford once you've had the work done.  I need some work on my drivers door and if they are any good then I can go direct and have it done near my house instead of leaving my car with Mr T at Stortford.

The company is called Marshall Panel Craft. My 2 went in yesterday and even though it has just gone in I`m already quite impressed, they said they are gonna replace the door panel and the front wing then respray the entire passenger side, the alloy wheel is off to a specialist. Oh yeah you get a really cool Micra 1.2 to bomb around in while all this happens  s:D :D s:D
