Couldn't see a section for projects so this part seems as good as any (if anyone is interested!)

Decided to have a change from my mk1 turbo as fancied something a little newer, never liked the mk2 so went straight on to a mk3.

The only criteria for the Roadster was it had to be black.

Complete with ditch finder tyres as most of them are and in need of a good polish. Love the handling and driving position but not the power.

Had the standard wheels powder coated and fitted new Toyo's. Fitted a chassis brace and also TTE lowering springs. Also fitted a TRD replica bodykit to make it look a bit more aggressive but still quite subtle.

Then I cut down the plates slightly and fitted a hardtop.

Then I bought these mounts off a guy in the states to fit a 3SGTE into a mk3.

Bottled it as not much info out there on the swap and bought this. Also didn't want the car off the road as I love driving it.

Decided I didn't want this either as 190bhp wouldn't cut it.

Also bought another car to crave my fast car needs as can be seen in the above picture.

320ish bhp but still not as fun as the MR2.

Decided to pull my finger out and decided the 3SGTE was what was needed.

Also bought an updated radiator.

And fitted along with the chargecooler rad.

Trying to do as many of the small jobs as possible to minimise the time the car is off the road although I expect to be without it for a few months at some point.

Wish I had, the money from the parts from the mk1 has roughly covered the mk3 (or so the missus thinks).

The Civic was an impulse buy when I had a totally standard one I used daily that I was considering modifying, previous owner had it from new and spent about £25k on mods so figured it a good deal rather than starting from scratch.

Haha, always keep it on the low..

Looks rad, what's the specs of it? Do you mind me asking what it cost you? Considering that amount of mods!

Not sure how up you are on Honda engine stuff but here goes:

FD2 cams
Skunk 2 throttle body
Balance shafts deleted
CPL header
CPL intake
Invidia exhaust
Jackson Racing supercharger
750cc injectors
Updated fuel system with return
Hondata flashpro
Quaife LSD
Clutchmasters paddle clutch
Peak power is at limiter of 8700rpm

Ret of car has HKS coilovers, Stoptech 4 pots with 330mm disks, genuine Mugen aero bumpers, Mugen spoiler, the list goes on.

Paid £10k for it, 35k miles. All work was carried out by specialists so the costs soon add up.

I'm slowly learning!

Sounds like a beast, how come it's not as fun as the 2 to drive? I've currently got a large hankering for a honda.. s2k or civic type r but the insurance is through the roof!

Driving position is nowhere near as good (purely in my opinion). Also really suffers from torque steer that you don't get with a RWD car.

I love the Honda's though, so reliable. My missus has my old EP3 Type R and its on 126k now and still runs perfect, I ran it at 250bhp NA for about 25k miles too.

I'm checking the EP3's out now, turns out insurance wasn't as bad as I originally thought it'd be!

How did you achieve that NA?

Toda header £1200 (ouch!)
Cat back system
RBC inlet manifold
Hondata ECU mapped by TDi north
Gruppe M air filter £700 (ouch!)

Tuning NA is expensive!

jesus!!!!! 700 for a sodding air filter!?!?

I'm currently highest bidder of a type R on ebay, won't win it but worth the punt

To be honest 700 is cheap for a gruppe M. They are about the only intake that actually make a difference. I have alot of dealings with Alistair at clockwise motion who really is the be all and end all in k20 engines in the uk.  He does all manner of machine work to them and he states firmly that the only way to achieve 245 from a k20 is decent exhaust. Skunk 2 pro 2 cams, throttle bodies and a stand alone management system. That's to get a true 245 though. TDI north have a huge reputation for very exaggerated dyno figures. Evotune arguably have the most accurate dyno in the uk at the moment. A friend of mine had his dc5 on there and made 221bhp at Evotune then at a rolling road day at TDI made 242 bhp with no other mods, same tyre pressure and same temperature.

All fair points I guess. I can only ever recall seeing ITB's on one K20 in all the years I've had them, no-one seems to do it.

I take cars on how they drive. The silver car was mapped at CPL and TDI South before I got it, definitely much quicker and less smoky after TDI North did it but similar power figures.

Yeah itb is not common on a k20 because charging and boosting is so much more value for the money. My mate with the DC5 is trying for 300 NA.  Even my tuner says it's going to need a generous dyno to achieve that even with a fully built engine. I'm exactly the same as you. Power figures mean nothing to me. If it feels faster then that's all that matters to me. I've known lads with the same cars as each other one made 200bhp and the other 185bhp and the 185 car was quicker. It's all about how it's mapped. I couldn't care less what my car makes. I know it's quick

How much power could a 1zz produce with a decent map?

So back to the Roadster 3s-gte project. You may find Gary's build thread interesting of a similar swap. You will notice a different feel to the Roadster though, with the additional weight in the engine bay. Good on you for going for it!  s:) :) s:)

I have read Gary's thread several times over now. Some very useful information and my only major concern at this point is the fuel return and the wiring. Shame that the thread seems to have died, would have liked to know if the car made the road.

I appreciate the car will feel different with the extra weight although I never found the mk1 felt that much different to a 1.6 one. I have spent years putting big engines in front wheel drive cars though and that does destroy the handling.

Small update.

Relocated battery to frunk. Kept the storage bin as wanted to keep all the under bonnet trims to keep it looking tidy. Also mounted the chargecooler pump and ran the chargecooler lines to the back.

Have ordered a set of these as well as the standard wheels look a bit lost.

I know they have been done to death on these cars but I like them. Have gone for 7x15 front and 7x16 rear. Both et40. Going to run 195/50's front and 225/40's rear.

Do you have any details on what was involved in moving he battery to the front please? I'd like to do it, how did you clamp it? How did you connect the +ve lead to the main car supply and did you just ground the battery in the front direct to chassis? Thanks

Looking good! Amazing what a difference the TRD lip kit makes with a sensible set of lowering springs!

Bring the power upgrade then the car will be come a completely different animal   s:scared: :scared: s:scared:

Used the standard battery clamps and drilled holes in the storage bin to secure. Fitted big washers as the plastic flexes quite a bit when you tighten it up. It's totally solid now though. Ran power lead under car and bolted it to the wire which was bolted to the original battery trim at the back. Earthed to a random bolt on the bulkhead. Reused the original terminals from the back.

Hopefully collecting my Rotas this weekend. Change of plan and gone for 16's all round. Currently waiting on one more engine mount before I can start swapping the engine.

Removed the Fidanza flywheel and paddle clutch from the turbo engine to replace with stock as still want the car to be nice and easy to drive.

Just trying to work out how to run a fuel return to the tank.
