I like! I don't envy the task though! I bought a 3.5t box van for my single seater 3 years ago and have only managed to strip one side of the old companies logo off so far!

I can see why, taking the wrap of a tiny little mr2 is one thing, I wouldn't fancy doing an entire van!

That looks so much better.  Are you going to paint the side scoops?

Yeah i think so, I'm not so keen on them being silver. I was going to have the whole thing resprayed, but I think that will come later

Jack was crashed into a few weeks ago by some numpty who couldn't stop at a roundabout. His insurance have admitted full liability, so at least that bit sorted out.
Car is off to the garage on Wednesday for a full check to see exactly what's broken, we know it had a bent strut (we've put a new one on), the hub is bent, alloy is a little chipped, panel is bent and scratched, side scoop has dropped off and oddly the passenger seat belt will no longer go back in (don't know if that is crash related)

How difficult was it to get the side vent off? Do any damage to the vent? (presuming it wasn't damaged in the accident?)

When the guy crashed into the car it dropped off! So not hard to get off at all. It got a tiny little chip in it and that's all

Hope you get Jack back up and running soon, wishing you the very smoothest of insurance resolutions.

Looking at that first photo is truly upsetting! Some people just go into autopilot and don't think!
Hope you get sorted quickly to enjoy the summer!

Thanks JK, dealing with insurance companies is the worst

The guy said he pressed the accelerator instead of the brake! Not sure how that happens tbh. I'm hoping he's fixed soon too, I can't wait to get out in the sun.

I have no idea what's up with that. Seat belt seems to be working ok, but it won't go back in without manual intervention, it's weird

I viewed a 2 once with the exact same issue. Someone suggested that the pre-tensioner could have fired causing the issue. I didnt fully understand this, but thought I'd throw it out there.

I'm going to ask the garage to have a look at the seat belt when it goes in, so hopefully I'll find out what the issue is. Could do without finding any more issues for a while   s:D :D s:D

No update at all! Car went into garage for a full quote on Wednesday, and we are STILL waiting for the quote to be sent to us. First they were typing the email address incorrectly, now I have no clue what they are doing. I just need it to send to the insurance company so they can send me a bunch of cash to fix it

I am sorry to say this, but i think they will write it off based on the amount of damage and money required to repair.

A new quarter
Wheel
hub
shock
Seat belt reel.

whats the car worth? 5k?  40% of 5k is 2k.  I reckon when you factor in paint and labour it will come to more that 2k.

You could look at this as a good thing, cash in on insurance, buy the car back for pennies, and use the cash from insurance for a bigger turbo  s:D :D s:D

As for the seatbelt, sounds like the seat belt re-tensioner has popped.  Did you have a passenger in the car at the time?  I have a spare passenger one if you need it.

Tis exempt from write-off. So won't happen.
They just need to decide on the cash in lieu amount

I am puzzled, never heard of that before. How do you get said exemption?

By having a "specially modified" policy, a 2005 and low mileage. Basically they recognised that the car is worth more than the book value, i.e....they can sell it for a lot more than 2500. So, they weren't going to write it off and pay out instead.
The confusion still lies around the difference between cash in lieu and just paying it. I think the simple difference is that with cash in lieu, you pick the garage. Otherwise it'll jsut go to a  (as cheap as possible) repair man linked to the insurance.
