Weather was terrible today. Heavy downpour for most of the afternoon, BBC weather shows a few dry days

By having a "specially modified" policy, a 2005 and low mileage. Basically they recognised that the car is worth more than the book value, i.e....they can sell it for a lot more than 2500. So, they weren't going to write it off and pay out instead.
The confusion still lies around the difference between cash in lieu and just paying it. I think the simple difference is that with cash in lieu, you pick the garage. Otherwise it'll jsut go to a  (as cheap as possible) repair man linked to the insurance.
Aha ok.. but surely there must be a value to work with. Maybe I am being thick. How much is a sp240 worth nowadays? I wouldn't had thought more that 6k?

This is a very nice low mileage example. I'm sure an agreed value would of been arranged as part of the policy.

It's hard to say what it's worth in reality isn't it? I would guess you are right at about 6k. The insurance said they would go up to 2.5k for repairs

So far this is the fun history;
- Dude crashes into car.
- Car gets picked up the next day from parking lot near accident scene and dropped home
- Car sits around while we mess around with insurance. New strut put on at home in the meantime
- D1ck around with insurance and garage to get quotes for fixes. Insurance decides on cash in lieu but require a breakdown of costs
- Garage 1 becomes unresponsive and provided questionable diagnosis of repairs and I give up on them.
- Garage 2 involved through recommendation. Quickly assess the car correctly and put in a full quote to insurance company
- quote not received by insurance. Garage sent to wrong insurance company (within same group...computer system FAIL)
- reminder to get quote
- quote not received by insurance (garage sent to wrong place again it seems)
- reminder to get quote
- Quote received!!! Hazza!! Assigned to engineer at insurance
- ...waiting...

I made my 10th call to the insurance today to make sure the quote arrived and that they're working through it quickly to send the approval to the garage.

Fingers crossed for next week...
