Right - so tonight is the night I get to fit my new Cobra exhaust! Stu has kindly volunteered to help me out with it, so I'm really looking forward to it.

Additionally I've just updated the insurance company to say that I'll be fitting this and they very kindly made no adjustments to the premium! Go Chris Knott!

Thanks man  :-) :-) :-)  I'm happy to announce that Stu is in fact quite adept at getting the exhaust hangers off!
Neither of us are adept at getting the old exhaust out however...

I managed to sheer one of the exhaust spring bolts.. and I must admit I was a bit worried at that point, thinking that we should just put it to the back of drive and then I'll book it in at the garage... Then we realised that we didn't need those bolts anyway!.. much celebration ensued.

The local fish and chip shop provided us with some Chicken Shish kebabs which kept us going till 2315 when we managed to finish!

Anyway - again many thanks to Stu for doing the majority of the work and for making what would have been a several month exercise - a mere 5 hours!

I now want to live in an area of the world that has more bridges and underpasses!

Ah, you should have mentioned. I know most of the bridges around Hemel and Milton Keynes   s:lol:  s:lol:
Go into the Hatfield Tunnel too when it's really quiet, and drive through it at around 70 in 3rd   s:lol:  s:lol:

Thanks for the food too.

That was fun. Those hangers really aren't that bad are they?

LOL.. we should call ourselves trolls!

Hmmm... yes a trip to the Galleria sounds like a good idea at night!

Thanks so much for your help - it was great to hang out and get something done WELL!

I like our ingenious idea for the exhaust hanger bracket  -  Anyone else out here got some info on how they put the Cobra additional bracket on??

No they weren't too bad  :-) :-) :-)  getting the old one out was though!

This club gets louder every week! Is there anybody left that hasn't changed their exhaust?

Right!

I have been thinking about this thread and have decided to add in a couple of sections to the first post:

 - Inspiration
 - Customization
 - Things I "should" do
 - Things I want to learn how to do as part of my ownership of the car.

Essentially I find myself having ideas of what I want to do or things I must remember to do so the first post will become a reminder of these things.
I'm also really wanting to gain some skills through working on this car, ultimately so that I can better myself but also because I want to be able to do these things with my boys when they get old enough. It'll be great to be able to work with them on their cars and have that time and interaction with them (saving money is a bonus).

To enable the "mad skillz" gaining to happen I'm also going to keep track of the reading that I'll be doing as part of this and will try and post a comment or two on what I think of some of the books that I get through.
It'll be aimed at the rest of the novices like me who need to be told to turn the wheel in order to get better access to the front brake disc bolts...

So in preparation for all this, I've asked for a Kindle for my birthday (which is tomorrow) and fully intend to become conversant on a theoretical level at least on a whole bunch of stuff! ( I can't tell you what stuff exactly as I don't know what it is... but things related to making the car go faster, stop better and go round corners better... )

Was it a new or secondhand exhaust, I've not been able to do any mods, my insurance won't allow it, change time January.  s:) :) s:)    s:D :D s:D

Second hand vgc. With Cobra exhausts you get the life time warranty so it's slightly less of a risk...
I'd suggest Chris Knott insurance, they've not batted an eyelid to any of my mods and I've had to start again with no claims bonus as I've had a company car for so long.
They basically expect you to be making changes it seems!

So I've been thinking/dreaming about the whole headlights thing... I've found a company called Oracle in the US that do this:
 m http://www.oraclelights.com/automotive- ... ights-Pair m
or
 m http://www.oraclelights.com/automotive- ... ht---Black m
or
 m http://www.oraclelights.com/automotive- ... lack-Bezel m

And I'm wondering if you took a pair of knackered PFL lights and replaced the reflector bowl with it - if it would work??

The alternative is to go down the H4 bulb replacement roue with this:
 m http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1Set-Philips- ... Sw4f5YCDR1 m

Though M.R. has given feedback that it might not be good enough and that the heatsinks might still get in the way!

Dont expect them to be so kind if you want to add a turbo or do a v6 swap.
From my own experience at least.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

great write up-sounds like you are learning as you go,which in my view is the way to do it -re painting your spoiler have u wiped it down/cleaned it before applying paint also u maybe putting too much paint on at one time-i use nail varnish remover to get rid of any sticky residue after removing any badges and have not had any problems or reactions -keep up the good work-i have done very similer to yourself and there is not much that i would not tackle now and am saving a fortune in mechanics fees most of what i have learned has come from this forum via how to,s

Thanks man  :-) :-) :-)  Much appreciated.

Yeah I did a good wipe down - but there was clearly something else going on!...
Whenever I get the motivation I do a bit more sanding it's got a looooong way to go.

I shall steal the wife's nail varnish remover when I debadge the current bumper  :-) :-) :-)

And yes - this forum is an invaluable source of information, growing friendship and entertainment!

Well it's Christmas day- merry Christmas to you all  :-) :-) :-)

I'm sat on the sofa with our 6 day old son (we've named him Joshua) and my thoughts are drifting towards the car again..

I'm thinking about getting hold of an engine and slowly doing a rebuild on it,  that way it's there if/when I want it, and I've also leant something new...

Having written that, I just occurred to me that since my recent acquisition of the 1zz car manuals that it might have made more sense to get the 2zz ones! That way when it comes to changing it's even better!... Ah well let's see anyway..

First step in all this will be to generate space for all this... I'm expecting that I'll need to build a decent extension to the shed or the garage to house the engine on a stand...

Also the gearbox is something in guessing will need some more work as when it's cold it seems to catch a bit when finding 3rd....

Ok- totally rambling here!

Merry Christmas to you all and I wish you the best of times with your families and cars!
