I've finally done it!!! After....goodness knows how many years....I've bought another MR2!!!  s:D s:D    s:D s:D  
Those of you who were looking at my recent posts will know I was looking at an 03 and an 04 MR2 - I went for the 04 based on service history, the condition, colour and that I got it for quite a good price (I feel I have anyway!)
I'm so pleased to be picking it up in the next couple of days   s:D s:D  

I'll start by giving it a good going over with some rust treatment, servicing it and enjoying it before I take it off the road for the winter.
I'll be on the look out for a baffled sump as a priority upgrade, as I plan to take it on a few track days, so any info/advice would be appreciated for sourcing one

Finally got her home!!





Having had a good experience with Ferodo DS2500 pads, I'm currently trying to hunt down a set for the '2. Any ideas?

Didnt come up when i went on the ferodo site.
I think we have the same rear pad as the Mk2 so you may have some luck there.
And we have the same front as a Yaris something like that.

I wonder how these pads are in comparison to ebc yellow stuff.
On another car forum it was always between those two. So they must be pretty similar.

I think most people went for ds2500 then as ebc were having some issues with brittle pads.

Anyway. Lovely car  s:) s:)  Perfect color hehe. Goes without saying

So, started to get cracking on the car today, as I have a buyer for my leather seats and door cards - didn't prove too difficult which makes a change! Normally the simplest of tasks ends up taking the longest!

While I had the tools out, I thought I'd see what other bolts and screws I could undo   s:lol: :lol: s:lol:  
Out came the plastic covers over the uprights, then the ash tray and cup holder unit, out came the aftermarket stereo (for sale!)...then I sat twiddling my thumbs or a minute while I looked around...
...Out came the doors to the rear storage/bins, out came the plastics for the rear bins...then it started raining for a short while   s:| :| s:|  

I still need to get rid of my pre-cat ceramic, so I cracked open the PlusGas and gingerly undid the ridiculously rusted bolts to remove the top heat shield. Thankfully not much trouble there considering the state they were in - slow and steady wins the race   s:) s:)  
The lower heatshield was a little more problematic - the bolt on the right side was rusted into a dimple   s:roll: :roll: s:roll:   ..ended up pulling the heatshield over the bolt, so I'm hoping I don't need to put it back on.

Then the rain came again before I could jack up the back and tackle the three amigos  s:| :| s:|  

Just as I was packing up, a courier man arrived with my new discs and braided hoses!!   s:D s:D  Thanks to Paul@TCB for sorting me out!!  s:D s:D

Thought I'd add a quick update, to keep the post current.

I had a week off before Christmas, so I a) got a bit frivolous with the debit card, buying parts for the car/transformation and b) was able to crack on with getting things fitted.
Being in the fortunate position of having a free ramp in the workshop while it was quiet at work, I got my car in the air to try and make the brake switcheroo a little easier.   ....One fairly straight forward job took me 5 damn hours to get the rear discs and pads switched over   s:evil: :evil: s:evil:    Managed to snap a pad carrier bolt in the process, which meant I had to pay Toyota £1.50 for another, wait for overnight courier and complete the job the next day.
Naively, I thought it would instantly eradicate my "launching rocket" like handbrake, which seems to go almost verticle. Still does that...   s:? :? s:?  

Next day I took my car home and had the front brakes replaced. Braided hoses, new brake lines and a full brake fluid change to motul rbf400 came shortly after.

In and amongst the goings on, I managed to buy myself a pretty swish (although second hand scarred) bucket seat

I was going to utilise the oe seat runners and bolt and weld a few bits of metal to attach the seat, but after a bit of buggering about, bit the bullet and drove to Rogue to get a proper seat mount for a side mounted bucket. So glad I did, as it's so much easier to fit when you have the right parts....not to mention the confidence I'll have in my safety.

I've yet to fit the gear selector bushes in the engine bay, buy a steering wheel boss kit to mate my removeable steering wheel boss (xmas present) and buy a steering wheel. oh, and now the exhaust I bought from mxcum167 last night!!   s:D s:D  
Once I've done that, I then need to grow a pair and drill the firewall to fit an eyelet attached to a spreader plate, in order to anchor my harnesses. Using the traditional over shoulder, triangle seatbelt with a bucket seat is not advised   s:shock: :shock: s:shock:  

Oh, and I need to find a supplier for a baffled sump (that don't require an arm, leg, lung, kidney...), which should get me to a stage where I'd be happy to get some track time!   s:D s:D

I'm also undecided about fitting a cage, or getting a hard top?
Hard top seems like more protection, considering its a hard shell compared to sturdy framework. Roll cage seems like there's less probability of me getting killed/crushed should I roll the car though...

Nice update ad. Any chance you could update with a few pics of the exhaust when you get round to fitting it please mate? I was very torn about buying the exhaust without info on the fitment around the bumper.

Just finished fitting my Corbeau seat and Rogue Motorsport seat frame.
My...god...what a blummin ball ache!!! Bolted up symmetrically using the same holes either side and it was all way out!! With some brute force, scratched seat base and a lot of sweat, I finally got it all bolted up.

Looks the cat's pyjamas though!!  s:-D :-D s:-D   definitely need to get my harnesses fitted now

Finally got chance to do a little more to my car today, despite the rain showers.
My harness spreader plates arrived yesterday, and as I'd promised my carpet to another forum user, it was high time I pulled my finger out!

The seat was as much a pain in the ass to get out as it was to fit, but with that out I was able to scramble about with the doors closed as it continued to pee it down!

Rear plastics have now been removed, and parcel shelf too, which gave good access to clear out the drain holes while I was there. My '2 has been fogging up and getting damp something chronic, so I'm hoping that's behind me now.
As I mentioned before, carpet has now been removed and awaits pickup from the new owner. Seat belts removed and centre console too. My gearknob was a bit thread bare so I ripped off the leather - doesn't look too bad actually!!
Not a bad few hours all in all.

Sounds good, I always like these track builds, I need to get another daily then I can start planning on getting my mr2 in to track duties again, you car looks great, always loved sable!

Thanks Jonty. Can't wait to take it to its first track session once I've ticked the following off my list;
- find suede steering wheel that isn't deep dish and isn't going to cost me £80+
- Fit clutch and lightweight flywheel, change gearbox oil for mt90(?)
- fit spreader plates and harness
- Fit gearstick cage bushes, selector bushes, lotus style exhaust
- Fit hardtop if I can get something arranged with MilesH to pick up
- supply and fit a moroso baffled sump, so I don't end up killing my engine at the first trip out.

Somewhere along the line, I need to MOT and service my car in April too....

Should be good, not killing the engine first time out is a good idea. My 02 plate PFL developed killer oil consumption after my first trackday and ate itself about a month later. Previously didn't have cons, oil level was good at end of the day, so I didn't check any sooner than normal... Mistake!!

Having never taken the plastics and parcel shelf off, I didn't realise there was quite a sturdy looking bar behind there! Looks solid enough to mount your harness's off, but I'm guessing it isn't.

Was a little alarmed to find signs of rust in the floorplan, but I guess it's to be expected of a 12yr old car. Anyone else treated these? just a rub down and anti-rust treatment I'm presuming??

NIce seats adam, Looks like a pig of a job to change the seats over. With the rust it's a good job you found it early on! Get some red lead on it and spra some sable paint on top? lol. Thanks for providing the carpet! Will be great to see your progress in the future.

Made quite a leap forward!
Spreader plates finally fitted, seat refitted, harness clipped in, steering wheel bolted into quick release column and coolant topped back up.









Had to refit the centre console to ensure I had the window switches secured somewhere for the MOT on Saturday. Also got to fit a push button for the horn tomorrow - presume I can just run a ground wire to a switch, and then attach the single wire that was plugged into the OE steering wheel to make the horn work?
